KANSAS CITY -- The first couple of weeks Sherron Collins was on the Kansas campus as a freshman, he hit the weight room with the rest of his teammates.

Two weeks later, he had tacked on seven pounds of muscle mass.

"I just said, 'OK, whoa, that's enough of that," said KU coach Bill Self, stunned at Collins' bionic growth.

Ever since, the 5-foot-11 guard has received a weightlifting dispensation, exchanging heavy lifting for an extra cardio workout.

Blessed with the body of Mighty Mouse, the neck of Popeye and a set of six-pack abs that David Beckham would envy, Collins is something of a genetic freak.

Despite the weightlifting hiatus, Collins remains ridiculously strong, continuously shocking -- and annoying -- to his teammates with his Paul Bunyan efforts.

"I walked in from doing my cardio one day when they were lifting and I asked what was the most a guard had bench-pressed that day," Collins said. "They said 265. I told them to put 270 on. I sat down and did it."

Self said on a recent pass through in the weight room, Collins spied his teammates doing chin-ups with 40-pound weights strapped to their ankles.

"So he starts giving them crap and someone says, 'OK, let's see you do it, Sherron,'" Self said. "I think they were doing like five. What's he do? He goes over, does 10, gives them a look and keeps going."

Just thought it was funny with his weight seeming to always be an issue with some people.

Maybe it wasn't because he was letting himself go, but that he was working too hard in the weight room? lol

Man.

Some of the quotes that have been coming from the athletic department regarding working out have been pretty laughable.

7 pounds of muscle in two weeks?

Okay.

I also enjoyed the (one of the Morris twins maybe?) player talking about working out and eating right to gain muscle and I think the first thing they talked about eating was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

hate to break it to you, but 7 pounds of muscle isnt impossible...worked in the gold's in St Louis for a few years and I've seen two week gains very similar to that at least 5-6 times a year.

Its not like losing weight, there are so many muscles in your body that gaining even 5 percent muscle mass on every muscle you train would get you close to 10 pounds. Genetics are a huge contributing factor.

There's not that many people walking around with 200 pounds of muscle.

No idea. But if someone gained 10 pounds of muscle by adding 5% to all of their muscle, they'd need to start at 200.

since when is 7 pounds at 5 percent 200 pounds of muscle? a guy walking around at 205 im sure has close to 140 pounds of muscle on his body or somewhat close to it.

read the post again...it never once said exactly 10 pounds...I said close to 10 pounds implying the original 7 pound feat.

the whole point wasnt supposed to be exact science...i love how some people completely lose the point in totally unimportant details...the point is its nowhere near impossible for someone of Sherron's size and genetics to pack on 7 pounds in 2 weeks...I've seen it first hand.

Not the muscle talk again! That one dude said you can only gain 1 pound a year!

Hawklin's right. Why don't you d'bags stop using facts to correct a great article. Nobody gives a [censored] about physiology (don't even know if that's spelled right or the correct term).

Geez. The least you could of done is pop a woody like me and enjoy the fact that Sherron is a beast.
