Looks as if Barroids will break Henry's record. Assuming no injury or sniper surfaces before that day then it is a lock. He's around 20sum short of one of the most prestigious records in ALL of sports. How hollow will the sound be when the record crashes? How hollow are they now?

Should we seperate modern numbers from current numbers?

Look, I like the guys competitivness and his will to win. He has been a ballgamer ever since his Sun Devil heydays. It seems Bonds is built in layers. His first layer is "straight up gettin his". He will do "whatever it takes" to get to the top and drop whoever is in his way to smashing individual records. His second layer is his wall with the media. Bonds has always been an ass in the media part and they couldnt wait to lay claim on something he couldnt defend honestly. Well, he cant run from this one. Imagine this: Aaron circling the bases after 715 hit. The whole country(well, most of the country. we still had our shallow thinking racists out there who made death threats to a man just playing a game)cheering for a man that broke record that stood for, what, 40-50 years? I can remember Craig Sager(tnt reporter)and a friend running behind Aaron while he rounded 2nd to just catch up with him and give him a pat on the back. Media was not huge like it is now. Hank probably took some pictures, answered questions about what kind of pitch he saw and if he was relieved it was over with. 30 plus years later we now will have that same record broke. Less time between Ruths 714 and Aaron's 715 will have passed. Bonds will then be asked questions about his grind on the field as well as of the field. Will someone round 2nd right behind him, but instead of a pat on the back will he have a needle and juice? I think most everyone outside of San Fransisco will be splittin hairs on a bullfrog when that time comes. Heres hopin' that it is in K.C so I can be the one who rounds 2nd with a needle and juice.

The sniper comment is frightening - Is it Barry or Bobby? DeNiro with the Bobby chants is haunting.

I think the guy is a piece of crap and yet feel sorry for him at times. If the guy just told the truth I think he might be respected. When he breaks Aarons record I will be more sad for Aaron than happy for Bonds.

I was a Bonds fan at one time. Basically cause he was a good player. Even though he carried himself WAY above civilization, his baseball was the truth. I can remember Orlando Cabrera pinch hitting in the NLCS in I think in 91 or 92. The ball went in between SS and 3rd right to Bonds in left. Sid Bream was carrying an organ on his back when he rounded 3rd. Bonds used his whip to make a play at the plate but came up short. He always had the rap about never showing up in the playoffs, and rightfully so. Then he got his chance in '02. Still cant believe the Giants were up 5-0 against Anaheim ready to wrap up the WS. Then the monkey hit with the rally sticks.

When he and Bonilla were both on the Pirates I remeber when they were warming up before the game. Some kids asked them for baseballs. They walked up to the kids as if they were going to give them the balls and then pulled a "psych" move and walked away with out giving the kids the balls. That is when I realized that although these guys were great players, they were still losers. I admit I have collected several Bonds items over the years because I collect memoribilia but not because I like the guy.

Man, that IS messed up! Bobby Bo' had that same "ME" attitude Bonds had also. I got both Bonds and Bonilla's rookie cards from that year, I believe '86. Donruss Rated Rookies set. I also have a glossy Fleer rookie of Bonds. Damm, should of pedaled it when he 73.

Bonds may end up being the greatest player in my life time. Right now it may be Aaron. Tough call.

Bonds was the best. ARod will make a case. Griffey Jr. was at one time thee best. Pujols could be before it is over. Bottom line is that this era will be tainted. Ryan Howard is making a case for the "new" age.

I'm not a Cubs fan but I will say everytime I would flip channels as a youngster and see the Hawk cleanin his cleats off with the lumbar I would stop the surfin'. And I swear dude would hack one every time and go yard.

I dont think he was juiced. Dawson looked the same for years.

I used to go to spring training every year. If a guy like Dave Kingman played today he would have been accused of being on the juice. I don't think he was. Dawson I believe is one of only 2 (if not the only player) to win league MVP playing for a last place team.
