I think you have 2 factors...the physical differences and how long has it been since you put a new floor in AFW?

is less onerous, a kneecap dislocation. 2-4 weeks. thank gawd for this classy young woman and great athlete that it's not something worse, i.e. acl.

that said, i'm not sure who this state team can beat, other than kwho, without gipson patroling the middle. we'll find out tomorrow when the cats play rival nebraska in abe-town.

Ouch...dislocated kneecap. Hurts to think about.

tmcats - what's your take on the prevalence of knee injuries in women's sports?

is moving beyond their capacity/aptitude. my sense is that they do not have the quality of strength conditioning found on the mens' side. and it may just be that a woman's body is not well adapted to this harsh-on-the-limbs game.

gipson is the best athlete, other than kendra, that i've seen in this league the past 6-7 years. yet, she's starting to fall apart already, just a sophomore. why?

it's a damn shame because she plays at a level with a flare so far beyond the norm. it's been such a treat to watch her develop.

i've chatted with her g'father; that brings it closer to home, i guess.

Most really harmful knee injuries occur when players are cutting or planting their feet. I don't think a more rugged male athlete would be any less susceptible to these injuries.

on the recent women's teams, here are the serious injury problems:

laurie koehn - missed a year due to foot injury
megan mahoney - torn acl/cost ksu big12 c'ship
shana wheeler - tonn acl/missed a year
marlise gipson - kneecap
kari kincaid - missed first half due to foot injury
shalee lehning - missed several games due to knee/foot injury; playing at well under her capabilities today.

on the men's side

Don't know about all the injuries, but acl injuries are more prevalent in women athletes.

their jump-shooting whiz sophomore who hasn't lived up to all the recruiting hype. but it is a lose for the horns nonetheless.

that mbb game last night was awesome, but the defense wasn't.

but the lack of it in the women's game is one good reason bluehairs enjoy it so very much.

i've talked with gipson - no raspy voice. she's beautiful with a little war paint. basketball unies do these women no favors.
