Last Thursday night in Indy. I was staying at the hole in the wall Ramada but had a good friend staying at the Omni (Cincinnati and Kentucky's Hotel) directly across the street from the RCA Dome. As soon as the Illinois game ended we walked over to the Omni to wait for my friend to get ready and noticed a small hotel bar with a side TV and was watching the end of the Creighton game. There was one guy directly in front of me and a guy from Creighton hit an unbelievable shot. I turned to the guy in front of me and said "I can't believe he made that." The guy turns around and says "Yeah, one heck of a shot". As he turned around I noticed it was Tubby Smith. I watched the earlier game with Kentucky vs. E Kentucky first game of the day and congradulated him on their earlier performance. Somehow I got to talking that I was a KS fan and we briefly talked about the game earlier in the year at Rupp. He told me he was surprised how they had fallen off towards the end of the season and said that being such a great team (Noted Wayne Simien) and he thought they would have a great tournament. Well, I guess we know how that went. Anyways, it was kind of cool talking KS ball with Tubby regardless of how I feel about UK.

You're always running into famous people.
Either you're incredibly lucky or a terrible liar.

I've ran into a few people people this year..

1) Drew Gooden at Gibsons in Chicago
2) Tubby Smith at his hotel in Indy
3) Rudy T / ESPN Reporter at the Big 10 Tournament
4) Julian Wright - He goes to my high school and have seen him play several times this year

However, I do play basketball at hoops gym in Chicago and have played with Kendall Gill and Marcus Fizer in a pick up game and have watched but not played with Antoine Walker this year. I am best friends with his cousin Nigel Gill. Gill played with about 5 of us KS fans on our Saturday morning league and we talked smack in a friendly way to him even though he dunked on me twice.

I don't know if meeting anyone of the above should be considered lucky because none are superstars. Maybe if it was Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson that would be another thing but if you think i'm bragging about meeting a college coach, a descent nba player, and an overrated reporter than thats your perogative. Frankly, having season bulls, cubs and bears tickets, and going to the first and second round of the NCAA tournament for the past 15 years, I have seen a lot more people than that but if you want to critique my "stories" i'll refrain from giving you any information. Sorry, I live in a sports mecca of a city and people actually come here to watch more than bball.

Whoa, calm down cowboy. I dont think he was really ripping you or anything. Your stories do seem a little far-fetched though, especially considering you are apparently a high school student ("He goes to my high school"). So you have to understand how it may seem a little unreasonable to us plain Kansas folk that a high school kid is playing golf with MJ and chatting with Tubby Smith in a hotel bar. So, not to come right out and doubt you, but I'm a bit leary. That's all.

I'd love to be a weatherman. Where else can you be wrong so often but still keep your job?

I don't know how I left you off me "best of" list. I should be ashamed. Had a tee time set for 3:20 today, but Brett Favre cancelled due to the rain.

Ashley Judd told me Tubby Smith was a real nice guy. Ofcourse she always talks too much after a roll in the hay.

That's bad, I'm just piling on now.

Dont get so mad man, geez. Given the way you worded your post, its understandable that I could interpret it as I did. I agree that you seem to be a topper...or at least that's what Jessica Alba told me. She's sitting on my lap right now, reading these posts.

I have also met a decent number of sports and regular celebs, probably a ton considering have lived in SD most of my life. Anyway, the biggest sports jerk I've ever met was former Notre Dumb coach Bob Davie. Nicest is easy, though there have been a few. He's a guy I am proud to call a friend and some of you old-timers might know of him. His name is "Doc" Edwards. He played catcher for the Yankees for a short time when Maris and company were there. He later played for and managed the Cleveland Indians. He's been in baseball his whole life. He was one of the main guys who scouted and built the D-Backs when they started. He left the year they won it all . Just a top notch guy.
