Wow, wish KU's marching band was half as good as Ohio State's....

At the Thursday night Cal game in the early 90s, the band did the script "Kansas" at the halftime show. That was the last time the band did that.

It was cool. Great night for football, too, although KU lost.

Ohio States Band... Spats, service caps, snare drums under the armpits. talk about "old school" They "blow" good but the marching high stepping was atrocious. terrible phasing. I'll take a Big 12 band anyday.
ALSO, did you notice Ohio State does not march any woodwinds? All brass. IB

I put my fist through a wall at Kincaid's in Chicago that night. Not one of my more proud moments. Now I know it was a special night in KU band history.

That was on my 19th birthday, I remember it well. Had a calculus test the next day....funny the things you remember.

If I'm not mistaken, that might have been the first night game in KU history.

is absolutely phenominal in-person. i first saw them at the feista bowl. they are loud and proud.

best fight song goes to michigan though. i heard it first in chyrsler arena v. michigan state. first time i've ever gotten goose bumps from a school song of a school i detest. it is special.

Now for a cheer they are here, triumphant!
Here they come with banners flying,
In stalwart step they're nighing,
With shouts of vict'ry crying,
We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now,
Hail!

Far we their praises sing
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Far we their praises tell
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Here they come, Hurrah!

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan
the leaders and best
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!

We cheer them again
We cheer and cheer again
For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan
We cheer with might and main
We cheer, cheer, cheer
With might and main we cheer!

Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!

watched lou's boys at south bend during and after national championship year. no way irish fight song is anywhere close to the 'the victors.' you have to be in the arena to get a feel for both. i have been. it's 'the victors' hands down, up or sideways. putting n.d. with michigan on this one is similar to sending today's irish to a bcs game, senseless.

I too have been to both stadiums. Don't try telling that to N.D. fans. I am impartial.

Most of you guys know that I'm a bit prejudiced on this issue, but I'll take the USC Trojan Marching Band! And as the "official" band of Hollywood, they get lots of gigs and lots of exposure. But watching them lead the fans into the Coliseum is amazing!
