Great article on Garrett's defense: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2020/apr/02/kansas-junior-marcus-garretts-reputation-lockdown-/?source=newsletter&utm_source=second-street&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter%3a+KUSPORTS+HEADLINES

He certainly would be a great asset on defense for any starting five you'd want to have for KU or perhaps the # 6 man to come in and cool the heels of some hot-shot.

This is the best all time starting 5 bar none because the Mighty Phogusher says so:

The 5 : Wilt Chamberlain
The 4 : Danny Manning
The 3 : Paul Pierce
The 2 : Mario Chalmers
The 1 : Jo Jo White

that's all folks...

Aaron Miles deserves a little love here. School record 954 assists. 3rd all time in steals with 264. Not the greatest scorer but did everything else. Could help all the scorers on this list get theirs by dishing the rock.

KU has quite an array of players to choose from for a starting five. The bottom line would be to start with Wilt and build around him. A good variety of various players could form an almost unstoppable team. Add another five to that plus two and we're talking about some real basketball. Who do we add as coaches? For head coaches we'd certainly need to pick from Phog, Larry, Roy or Self.

If I was going for a small ball 5 I might consider Richard Scott. He was a tough son-of-a-gun and a rebounding beast for 6-7. Pierce was a great Jayhawk but I wouldn't put him at the 5.

I'm not trying to make light of anyone's choices, for there is no wrong choices. We can make up our own team to fit our needs and desires. But I don't understand why there would be a need for a small ball 5 when you have Wilt. He was quick, a great ball handler, almost unstoppable underneath, great defender and with great outside shooters, you don't need him shooting from the outside ever.

My opinion on Wilt has always been he's not only the greatest Jayhawk of all time, but the greatest basketball player of all time.

Just putting my on take on someone else's idea.

I agree with you 150%. Also understand that you were responding to another post. I should have hit "reply" to that post but did it in a hurry.

Just watched Pau Gasol try to post up Pierce in
the 2008 Finals Game 6 is on right now on ESPN.
Pierce defended him well!

I was kind of goofing withy my list though!
I am interested in the Richard Scott as a small ball 5 suggestion.
I remember liking him as a kid, but I can't remember what his game looked like too well.

Scored 100 points in a game. Kobe scored 81 but no one else has been close.

The Admiral scored 70 once, but no one has approached 50 ppg for an entire season like Wilt did.

It irks me to no end for folks to try and say that other big men were better than Wilt. Kareem, Russell, Shaq Walton and others have all been mentioned at various times as being better. I'm not saying that these other men weren't good, they all were, but when compared to Wilt, they all fail to measure up. He could have easily played longer and padded his already great stats. Several NBA teams tried to lure him back to play for them, but as always, Wilt set his own agenda and terms. I'm really glad he came back to KU to see his jersey retired. It opened his eyes to how well loved he is by KU fans. He would flourish quite well in today's game.
