I wouldn't take the OP as a slight but as KY's way of boasting about his own team. You notice who is at the top of list.

It may have been second to none in his era, but he couldn't hang with the modern game and you know it.

Wilt was clearly a standout during the time he played, in spite of the serious limitations (imagine growing up and trying to compete as a black man in that era) confronting him at that time. Given the advantages enjoyed by modern day athletes, and given that Wilt was a superior specimen regardless of era, I do not doubt he would have been an extraordinary player in today's game.

Wilt Chamberlain is one of the FEW "greats" from a bygone era that I think COULD play today - and probably Bill Russell. Chamberlain was more that just a basketball player, he didn't just focus on basketball - he didn't have to. He was a freak athlete and had an edge that most of the "new" players don't really have. Not like he did. Russell's mental game would allow him to excel in the league of today as well. He had an edge as well, which would allow him to play as well as most anyone that plays the game today. These 2 were 3 or 4 "eras" ahead of their time.

Who in the modern era would be comparable to either of those 2 by size and general ability? I love Anthony Davis' game; would they be as good as him or no?

Most folks of the modern day era have no idea just how great an athlete Wilt was. He was also extremely strong.

I agree with Yovoy. There are several athletes that could compete with anyone today. Jack Johnson could compete with any heavy weight now. Jesse Owens could compete with anyone in his track and field events today. Jim Thorpe could compete in just about any major sport today. We tend to be biased against people because of when they were born.
