Rest in Peace to a legendary Jayhawk.

How did he die? old age? he looked great for 90+ years old. would hope he would live to 100. Past my time, but i have memories of him. They sure don't make them like him anymore.

Liked him far better than this new clown with the fake DJ voice they have. Surprised that punk KY hasnt made some sort of smart arse remark about his passing. And I swear to God moderators if he does and you don't ban him permanently I will seek you out and put you in a world of pain...

bob and max called the iu/ku game back when bobby brought damon bailey to afh and roy's jacque vaughn won it at the end. i listened and told max later, when i met him at bramlage, that it was the best game call i'd ever heard. he is a treasure lost. rip!

Max Falkenstien, longtime “Voice of the Jayhawks,” passed away yesterday. When I started at Kansas, Max was one of the first to take me under his wing. He was an icon in the community and a truly nice man who treated everyone with respect. He always had a smile on his face.
Max is going to be missed by all his friends and the Kansas community. Praying for my friend.

Yes, all three have. I read their responses on cbs sports.

Always hate to see the legends go. The ones you get used to as a kid. Caywood Ledford at UK, Joe Nuxall for me with the Refs. Al Michael’s found his voice in Cincy covering the Big Red Machine at the time. I’d hate to think what that old lineup would cost in today’s game. No way Cincinnati affords them.
Cal wished Ted Owens a Happy birthday recently too. Gave him a chance.
I’m old enough to remember when so many games were on the radio and not television that you really grew a fondness for the radio team. Just like yesterday I remember Caywood calling games with Issel, Maravich etc. Maravich in his games would torch us for 50+ but we would win because Pete was the one man show.

Thanks, I’ll look for the CBS article.

The loss of Max Falkenstien is the loss of a KU icon. I listened to him over many years, first as the one who called the games and then as the color commentator with Bob Davis. Max was calling the game in 1957 when KU lost to UNC in the national championship game. We were having a major blizzard in SW Kansas. It was the third OT with six seconds to go with KU to throw the ball in at our end of the court down one point. Before we could throw it in I lost my radio signal and didn't know for two days who won. I was able to share that with him many years later at a KU game in Allen Field house. Rest in peace Max, you were a great KU man.

How did that put a Kentucky spin on it? Calipari got his first job at Kansas. Learned somethings he had to not do when he came to UK but here he was saying bye to an old friend.

Seriously...do you ever spend time on your own teams forum. Yes Cal used to wash Larry Brown's jock straps at KU. The affiliation ends right there...
