Let;s first see what happens here with this incident. Charges often can and do change during an investigation and even then that's not the same as being guilty of a charge.

As it currently stands an allegation of a misdemeanor assault isn't worthy of being kicked off a team IMHO. It ain't good, but it also doesn't seem to rise to the level of kicking someone out either.

Tweet from Jesse Newell Jayhawk Insider

Pooka Williams’ next court appearance is set for Jan. 9. Judge James T. George set bond at $1,000 and ordered no contact with alleged victim along with disallowing a return to the alleged victim’s residence.

I'm not up on the difference between misdemeanor assault and assault. But in general misdemeanor offences are relegated to similar level as parking ticket or insufficient fund check, right?

If the above is anywhere near correct then I agree this is at most a minor offense that might deserve therapeutic educational correction, but not a potentially life changing penalty that could derail a promising career opportunity.

Because the incident occurred at Pooka's place of residence I feel investigators should be diligent to pursue both points of view. Sometimes in domestic abuse cases the difference between victim and perpetrator can be a close call.

In this case, we are talking about a 18 yr old girl versus a student athlete running back who absorbs many physical hits on the football field and in practice. That's a close call? Not likely...

Not likely?
Physical disparity assumed. I don't know details of the incident. However we do know she was at HIS PLACE. If she was misbehaving and he asked or demanded her to leave but she refused, I would agree he has the right to remove her. At the sametime I also agree he does NOT have the right to physically punish/abuse her. He should have called dorm security or something. I simply think investigators should consider all pertinent facts before rushing to a conclusion. I've seen some pretty rowdy/out of control females.

After what happened to Carlton Bragg, I'm going to reserve judgement till all the facts are in.

Hearing there were other witnesses and they all back up Pooka's version of events. Also hear LPD is looking to see if there's any video of the incident. Lastly heard it was a very minor incident relatively speaking and at least a couple lawyers who commonly practice in Lawrence/Douglas County believe the charges will be dismissed or dropped in the end.

Just the word on the street I've heard today as well as the opinions of a couple lawyers who occasionally run in the same circles I do.

I would think so.

From some of the stuff I've heard it's sounding more and more like the girl getting angry at Pooka and refusing to leave his place so he escorted her to the door and she called the po po in response. That's if what I've heard is mostly true,

When you play a physical game like football and particularly RB, you absorb punishing events in general. Afterward, in normal social events, the student athlete has a high standard to maintain. If a girl strikes out, as a rep of the college, you need to absorb it and move on without reciprocating IMO. Maybe the posters here don't agree with me, but we need to show both sides here. Clearly, for KU football, the dropping of charges, would be preferable.
