I love Marc, he is almost the Borowitz of the WAPO.

I know trump conflates national security interest with self interest, but you?

As I posted on that other board where I don't post anymore, the "transcript" is a Rorschach Test. It shows the reader whatever they already believed. From my perspective, it demonstrates the downside (the painful, interminable downside) of nominating and then electing a political "outsider." To this very moment, I'd bet he still doesn't know why anyone would possibly think what he did was wrong.

30 Republican Senators would vote to impeach ... if were a secret vote.

meh.

Mike Murphy.

They will do whatever is in their best interests.

Many, I think, would have been glad to have been rid of him in January 2016, before he won New Hampshire. So, to say that they'd like to be rid of him now is a truism.

I can tell you that Ben Sasse, for example, would have voted to convict him for any of a dozen violation before now, if he wouldn't then have to face Nebraska voters. That's not so much a knock on his (or their, in the general sense) courage so much as it is an acknowledgement that a political process (which is what impeachment is) requires popular political support.

The truth is he doesn't believe anything he does is wrong.

But his staff....sending the Dems a copy of his talking points on the Zelensky phone call, that was precious.

That's how "transcripts" work in the Oval Office.

Point not yet made but worth making: Warren's your nominee.

It requires them to put the good of the country above their own self interests. Vote your conscience and let the chips fall where they may.

You send your internal memo of talking points out to the opposition party and then 5 minutes later ask the system to recall them? Really? Seriously?

Clearly, I missed something. I didn't know that happened.

Yep. And the good of the country requires that a solid enough case has been made that the public will believe the verdict -- particularly with this president, who already has the fever swamps animated on his behalf.

We are nearing the apotheosis of Trumpism. Isn't it exciting????

The theory now as to why AG Barr was referenced in the transcripts is that Trump had either already conferred with Barr to launch an investigation into the wholly debunked Biden "scandal" or was intending to ask his AG to launch an investigation. Is this wrong? Who can say? It's all too nuanced.

What will happen is Trump and his minions and folks who know better will continue to try to smear Biden to folks who don't know any better. This is Trumpism at its best! And it all has the added benefit of all the Trumpism that came before it: i.e., things that are patently obvious, ie., that our country is being run by a shameless crime family, will be muddied into obscurity, confusion and baseless counterattacks. yippee!.
