Anyone's guess. All the good ones are taken. Need to find someone who's stock is on the rise.

he was a candidate at k-state. must want out of fayetteville.

ku should hire john currie. he'd fix compliance, facilities, and financials as he did at k-state, but wouldn't kowtow to self/adidas, so that won't work.

Are we talking their former AD Jeff Long or current AD Hunter Yurachek?

If they can bring Bielema or Chad Morris to KU, I approve.

I see. Jeff Long has been mentioned by Brett McMurphy as a candidate. Hadn't seen any mention of Hunter.

Tait has current interim AD Sean Lester on his short list. God I hope not. All we need is someone associated with Zenger and a losing football program. We need an AD that has been associated with a winning football program-period. For once lets hire a "football AD" and not someone who wants only basketball to be successful.

Thanks KSU booster, KU needs more compliance, facilities and financials work (not). Find somewhere to go hide. Bill Self is a model HC, now we need a model football HC preceded by a complete AD who is football savvy.

Parker hasn't wowed. His hires and pay aren't something I'd be happy with. While he didn't hire Bobo, he's average in the MWC and was extended by Parker to make him the highest paid in the conference. Niko Medved was a wtf hire after going 17-17 last year. Add that CSU softball hosted sit ins to fight against inequality among the athletic teams...I don't see why he'd be the top choice.

We should look further into getting a qualified candidate. I also thought CSU would fit into the Big 12 but that time has also passed IMO.

Graham left Parker in a great situation and Parker is doing a good job since he took over.

Parker hired Medved to coach basketball and that was not an out of the blue hire. Medved had been an assistant coach at CSU from 2007 - 2012. He did a good job rebuilding at Furman. Then Medved was at Drake for 1 season and won 10 more games than the previous season which is a big improvement.

Parker has a lot of connections in the B12. He has worked for Texas, TT and OU. He also has worked for other P5 programs, Michigan and Washington State. His CSU bio shows all of the VIP seats sold out in the new CSU stadium. It also shows he was responsible for fund raising at Michigan. He also was at CSU during the building of their new stadium so he has experience with that process.

His weakness is that he has not hired any football coaches. Parker extended Bobo this year after he went 7-6 (5-3 Conf) in each of 3 prior seasons. CSU also has to pay a big buy out if they fire Bobo in the next few seasons. That was not a good contract negotiation for Parker. Parker stayed conservative extending Bobo and that decision was made based on having a new stadium to fill and $239 million in new stadium debt to pay off.

Utah Chris Hill is my choice if you can get him out of retirement.

Chris Hill

Ray Tanner, the athletic director at the University of South Carolina, is my second choice.

My sources say differently. Currie micro-managed the program and him so he said see you later and took the first job available.

They went cheap with Zenger and Beaty so I am keeping my expectations reasonable with Parker. I also looked at other P5 ADs that we might have a shot at and most are new hires and not that impressive.

Realignment is coming around again and KU needs to have the football program in order and on the upswing for when that happens. High level AD, quality coach, 1st class football stadium, new indoor practice field, etc.

Hill just retired and spent his whole career at Utah. I do not see him as a viable candidate for KU.

Tanner was a college baseball coach until 2012. He has been at SC for 22 years so I do not see him making a move to KU. I would want someone with more experience running an athletics department than Tanner has. If KU is going to hire an ex-coach then at least get an ex-football coach like Mack Brown.

Bielema and Long both got fired.

They would be better than Beaty and Zenger, but Tom Jurich would be my pick if we're chasing unemployed ADs.

This guy's resume intrigues me: Michael Alford, 48, Central Michigan AD (see Tait's column) http://www2.kusports.com/news/2018/may/21/possible-ad-candidates-kansas/

Learned under Castiglione, has NFL ties, could probably be had for relatively cheap.

Ah. I was reading it you didn't want Jurich because he was fired.

I'm pretty meh on both Long and Bielema. I think Petrino was a great hire by Long until Petrino wrecked his motorcycle and all the extracurricular activities came out. Bielema never produced in the SEC.

What's the criteria for the new AD? I would like the new AD to check off these boxes.

1. Experience hiring successful head coaches for football
2. Experience with large fund raising projects like $300 million
3. Experience with financing and accounting so we do not waste big money like the LJW said happened on the renegotiation of RCP
4. Significant P5 experience in work history

12 years 97-58 record and 12-1 one year. A bit better than KSU dude for AD.

I am probably happy with anyone whose last name doesn't start with a "Z".

A major conference AD getting a pay raise.

I gave two examples in this thread. My 2nd choice could and should be the next KU AD.

I am not David Booth. I am not a KU alumni that can make it happen, right now.

Let's say we cannot get a current P5 AD to take the job. Would you rather have a P5 Senior Assistant AD with a lot of experience or a mid-major AD that also has some P5 experience as an assistant AD?

I am not David Booth. I am not a KU alumni that can make it happen, right now.

Let's say we cannot get a current P5 AD to take the job. Would you rather have a P5 Senior Assistant AD with a lot of experience or a mid-major AD that also has some P5 experience as an assistant AD?
Zenger came from FCS Illinois State. So I guess my answer would be a P5 Assistant AD with a lot of experience, especially with a football background in hiring successful coaches. Zenger had football background as recruiting coordinator but no administrative experience in a P5 before he came to KU.

I agree. KU needs someone that knows how to manage at the P5 level going into a rebuild of the stadium and hiring a new football coach.

Let's not say and go get the man for the job.

No thought of failures or excuse!

As Pizza posted, your 2 examples are not realistic hires. Let's try for some real world candidates. I have (guarded) confidence in Jennings and Hughes to find the right person. Not sure how much those 2 were involved in Zenger hire. Also, Girod apparently is not Gray-Little.

Alan is very capable to be a A.D. if he has an interest in college sports.

I think that would be a tremendous hire. There's no reason to think we CAN'T attract top talent that can target, hire, and staff a LEGIT coach. Beaty should be packing now. It's clear that unless he wins 10 games or more this year (no way in hell) he's done.

just an out of the box suggestion....how about Bobby Knight

Former AD

But Zenger’s new gig appears to be an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. He will be one of nine assistants under Free State head coach Bob Lisher. Zenger, who officially made the decision this week, plans to coach at FSHS for just one season.

A little volunteer work to keep busy.

Keegan wrote that he thinks we will have a new AD by July 2nd. Kirby thinks we will have a new AD by June 30th.

IMO that is a good sign because it means Girod was comfortable with hiring the candidate in a shorter period of time. That makes me think we are getting someone that is an experienced AD. If Girod was not getting an experienced AD then he would take more time with the search process.

It's too bad Tait didn't list Stoops as a "possible option" that's worked under Castiglione. It's obvious no one read the next paragraph that says that no one has provided a list or hint to who the AD search is looking at. The media could've had a field day with clickbait articles.

So, is she your nomination for our new AD?

I've heard KU is down to 2 or 3 candidates now and will probably hire someone before the end of July or even by mid July. Girod is keeping it all very close to the chest though. I believe only he and the search firm know the names of the finalists and who will get an interview as well as when and where. Don't think anything will leak until the day of the official announcement because as I said, Girod appears to be making the final decision himself.

Sources: Rick Hart, who had been the initial focus of the Kansas AD search, is staying put at SMU. Kansas moving on to other options, expected to interview more candidates this week.

Not shocked because he wasn't actually known to be a candidate.

The supply of women who want to be a AD is very small and unknown. I have no woman on my list. Qualifications might eliminate many.

I'm puttin my vote in for this one. She looks good, I want her. She looks the part of KU athletics: Nice background, tremendous family tree, looks good in crimson and obviously smart looking at her eye wear. As long as she continues wearing the ligerie and sexy glasses, the red eye flights from all parts will be STUFFED FULL of eager recruits willing to sign those LOIs the day after getting on campus.

Don't you even trry to tell me that a female can't build a successful(I held off) P5 football power.

He was never interested in the position. I prefer the Associate AD at OU, Mossman. He might bring Mangino back since MM was OC at OU.

Any AD who'd try and bring back Mangino to be our next football HC should be immediately fired.

That ship has sailed and there's no going back. He burnt way too many bridges both with a ton of HS HC's(he'd struggle to recruit worse than he did before) as well as quite a few bigger money donors. He's still got the same hot temper that got him into trouble before and it'd get him into trouble again. He's now 61 years old too. That's not super old, but it's old enough.

He did some great things for our program. He was a really good coach while he was here. I appreciate all that he did here for KU and I think he got somewhat of a raw deal, but his time is done. It's over and bringing him back would be a big mistake.

It's kind of like longing for your old gf who you really loved, not this new one you have who've fallen out of love with. There's a reason why she's your ex and not your current one and trying to rekindle what once was virtually never works out well for either party.
