A "well tied Louisville writer" has predicted Romeo Langford will select Kansas, linking it to the departure of Lagerald Vick.

KU is already one scholarship over for next season without Langford. Are Sam Cunliffe and Vick on their way out the door?--

I don't see Cunliffe leaving after only a half a season on the team. Everyone was certain a few years ago for Hunter Mickleson was transferring because he wasn't playing. I could be wrong.

I read Travis Releford's book a few months ago and he said that Coach Self went to him and asked him to take a redshirt season. I forget if it was McLemore or Henry coming in but Coach Self told Releford you don't have to, but if you don't you probably won't see much playing time. If you take a year off, I know it will help you improve your game and you sell see the floor more. I could see Coach Self asking Garrett and maybe Cunliffe to take a year off because with the new guys coming in, they may not see much playing time. Take a year off and come back a little better and some leadership for the team.

Good points, but if Bill Self wants to free up a scholarship (or two) he won't hesitate to show a player the door. He doesn't need to ask their permission.

Omar Wilkes, Alex Galindo, Rio Adams, Tyrone Appleton, Naadir Tharpe, Andrew White III, Dwight Coleby, the list goes on and on. Not all these kids transferred because of conduct issues. Some desperately wanted to stay.

What Self giveth, Self can take away.

If Romeo Langford truly wants to come to KU, Cunliffe and/or Vick are gone.

I am good with that. Although I think Vick will return.

These people are wrong almost all the time.

No I do not want some kid if it means one of our current players will be pushed out the door to make room. This is one of those practices that I find disgusting. And HCBS and the others that do this are sort of dickheads in my mind for doing it. It's uncool.

I would rather have Legerry next year than this other kid.

Lagerald Vick is not headed for the NBA draft.

As of now back will be
Lightfoot
Garrett
Azubuike
De Sousa
Newman
K.J. Lawson
Dedric Lawson
Vick
Cunliffe

That's 9 players who probably expect to play next season, add in

Grimes
Dotson
McCormack
Agbaji

If Langford joins who plays and who doesn't?

Also is there a chance De Sousa and Azubuike leave?

My guess is this 10 man rotation

Grimes
Dotson
McCormack
Azubuike
De Sousa
Newman
K.J. Lawson
Dedric Lawson
Vick
Langford - if he comes here, Lightfoot and Garrett rotate if he doesn't based on foul trouble.

What abut Moore?

That's 15 scholarship players. Two over.

Who leaves?

Is Moore better than Vick?, Newman?, Garrett? Will he be a better option than Dotson or Grimes? Would he play over Langford if Langford came to KU?

Where KU has a huge issue with lack of depth this season KU has a issue with too many players next year.

I think Desousa will redshirt or should.
Who knows with what these guys will hear. Doka could here his name as a 2nd round draftee. Vick could hear the same. I personally don't feel either are ready, but things happen.

Cunliffe doesn't appear to be Kansas material, but its been a small sample size so far. Garret is a great defender, but can't shoot a lick. He would be a good redshirt candidate.

Would Lightfoot redshirt?

Desousa doesn't plan to be around for 5 years so redshirting him makes NO sense.

I feel sorry for Cunliffe because he came to Kansas, appears to be trying, but he can't get any playing time and things don't look much better for him next year with Grimes and Dotson (and maybe Langford) arriving. Now his options are limited because he already sat out a year. Based on his playing time this year only, I'd say he is the most likely target for the Crider treatment.

Cunliffe will get playing time over next years freshman and De Sousa could start next year.

His freshman stats at Cal match pretty close to last year's Devonte. If he learned to take care of the ball and play solid D in his redshirt year off, he could compete for PT, but I doubt he beats out Newman, Vick, Grimes, or Langford. Doubtful on Dotson, and possibly on Garrett depending on MG's shooting stroke improvements in the summer. Probably beats out Sam from what we've seen.

But yes, right now we project a logjam that's kind of crazy by comparison.

De Sousa won't start next year unless he gets a sweet pair of those shoes.

I hope Cunliffe stays patient and sticks it out. I see him being a really good baseline slasher/dunker or someone who could drive the lane and draw fouls really well. We've seen glimpses of his explosiveness. He shows a lot of potential. I think like DeSousa he's still trying to get to the point where everything clicks and is 2nd nature to him. It's hard to get any game-time momentum when our games are so close and you can't really afford to put guys in who are still getting the hang of everything. You go in, then commit a foul or turnover right away and then get taken out 30 seconds later. smile I think if we have a few more blowouts like we had against OU he might get a chance to get enough minutes in to get a few consecutive buckets. Then the crowd starts going crazy for you like with DeSousa vs OU and you get confidence really quickly.
I get a feeling that Cunliffe could bolt regardless of Langford or any additional recruits coming in. He always has a pissed off/frustrated look on his face when he's sitting on the bench.
He said in an interview a while back that he thought he was the most athletic guy on the team after Vick. I think he expected to get into the starting lineup when he became eligible. I hope he stays patient and stays for the long haul. There are a lot of KU greats that said they had doubts early on but worked hard and stuck it out and ended up in the AFH rafters after all was said and done.
