How many wins gets Beaty to 2019? Does he need to win 3, 4, 5? Does Beaty even make it to conference play next season?

Bare minimum would be 4 as I see it. I also don't think there is a snowballs chance in hell he wins more than 2.

I'm pretty sure we'll know where he stands by game four.

That gives us the non-conference and Baylor to prove that we're better than this year.

I also have a tough time suggesting we'll win more than 2 or 3 with two of our potentially winnable games on the road.

2018 won't be so much about 2,3,4 wins as it will be a chance to grade out the sense of which way Kansas program is going after three full years and part of the fourth. Doing worse than ever (0-4), or staying as stagnant as 2017 (1-3), will be the end of the current management group strategy IMHO, which is what the topic asks for. Even 2-2 early may not save the "duder"!

The problem with KU football isn't the head coach, it's the turnover of coaches. So I don't see any reason to evaluate Beaty next season. 0 wins, 4 wins, 8 wins....it's all the same.

Moving in the right direction means keeping the coach no matter what.

But go ahead, keep making these random, pointless threads.

Odd as it may be...I agree....That's about my take too. Some sort of on the field progress must be shown and shown early, middle and late

This is the most logical thing you have ever said on any thread or forum. Well done.

It's not random or pointless to see if the HC can be a leader. # of wins are not the measure we should be concerned about however. If he can't be ahead of the game on certain things (kids not shaking hands pre game, for example) the wealthy donors should press for a change. And 2018 is likely to prove it out, one way or other for Beaty.

Not everyone agrees about the coin toss incident. Some see it as a typical, even an archetypal, misstep of youth. ("Who among us didn't make a mistake when they were young?") Or it's a sign of just being really super competitive. Looking to gain an edge.

Of course, others scratch their heads and wonder why they've never seen a college team, let alone one of the worst teams in the country, on ESPN no less, decline a pre-game handshake, and a head coach who doesn't seem to have an opinion on the matter.

Your phrase, "ahead of the game" suggests areas of evaluation besides wins and losses. I would love for more people to discuss this, and to define what those areas should be. So far it's been a subjective thing, like the coin toss incident (or non-incident, depending on your point of view.)

ZERO is good enough if Zenger is still the AD.

Kirk - the fact that the captains in total ignored Beaty input on handshake or didn’t even think to ask him his opinion speaks volumes. Another latest issue is a post season presser using a release vs a live Q & A speaks of a HC circling his wagons for one last shootout at the OK corral. My opinion has some backup without discussing his # of wins or his team’s preparation. I could mention his erratic play calling putting his team behind after 8 seconds.

There's a reason no one else is making this an issue. It was a bad look, sure, but its impact is being greatly exaggerated. Firing the head coach for it is a sad, comical suggestion. It's a dumb response due to an absurd bias.

If you want to fire Beaty because of his record, fine, but let's not try to act like the handshake is the catalyst. He was a questionable hire by a terrible AD. We don't need to continue to bloviate about non-issues just to say he's not good. If he had a good record, this would be swept under the rug just like the basketball team's misgivings and many of Mangino's misgivings.

I'm sure Chiefs fans that want Reid fired could use Kelce or Peters' unsportsmanlike antics to say he doesn't have control and be fired. Personally, I'd say fire Vance Joseph because Talib ripped off Crabtree's chain--if he was a good coach, that wouldn't have happened.

I gave three examples of why he isn't a good or even average leader but yet some poster believes I only bring up one example of why he s/b let go. Three examples aren't the only ones showing his unqualified background (he wasn't even that good of a HS coach in Texas). Duder must go before he ruins what little is left of Kansas football. Another poster says don't bring up his record while asking for objective reasons. That's the biggest reason of them all.

Other folks pay for a plane to circle the stadium saying negative things. To each his own.

I'm too absurdly biased...can you cue the violin music in the background?
