College coaches can hire an additional assistant coach now. Would you make an internal hire and reward someone? Or would you make an external hire for either a great recruiter or someone with experience to help with game plans? Since Beaty is running at code red right now I expect him to make an external hire for recruiting maybe for OL. Yenser gets an assistant that is great at recruiting.

Does it really matter? This is a lame duck coaching staff everyone knows they will all be gone after next year except for the few die hard Beaty believers that still somehow think he can coach at a D1 level

So you would hire no one because chances are good Beaty is out next season. That saves money for the buy outs so I guess that is an option too.

The other area I considered was another DB coach because our defensive secondary was so bad last season. When I thought about it then it seemed like Yenser needed more help because we already have Perry and Bowen to coach DBs.

Come on now, that's just stoopid since that's not gonna happen (them not hiring anyone for the 10th spot).

So, what's your opinion about what kind of coach they should hire, or do you not have one?

I think they ought to get a guy who has a history of solid recruiting and has experience coaching OL and/or OC experience (probably at a lower division) cause I thought the OL was the worst coached position group this past season.

We had just about zero experience and 1 starter returning in the DB group this year. Lost a couple guys to injury before the season began too. They started out atrocious, but improved throughout the season. Don't think they were poorly coached during the season so don't think they need to use the 10th coach on that group.

My biggest concern about Bowen's coaching is he learned under a HORRIBLE pass defense man in Bob Fello. Seems the philosophy is "don't get beat deep....just get beat, then make a tackle." For decades KU gets beat underneath more than any team in the country. I realize we don't have Charles Gordon or Aquib Talib as cover corners, but it might be nice to disrupt a route from the line of scrimmage from time to time.

That said, I agree with you about needing help coaching the O-line....might not hurt for the kids to take some geometry or physics classes and learn a tad bit more about leverage and balance.

you really need to work on your reading comprehension skills. At no point did I say they shouldn't hire a tenth coach I simply said it won't matter who they hire as Beaty will still be the HC and Bowen will still be the DC so we will still go go 1-11 or 2-10 at best and the whole staff will be gone including the new guy.

and as far as who they need to hire for that 1 year, I agree that someone with strong OL and recruiting skills would be good to possibly help improve the roster for the next staff but someone with a background in structural engineering and fire fighting would be better to help fix all the bridges that Beaty seems to have burned in the Tex recruiting areas

If your the Head coach, you hire the next available candidate who needs a job.

If your the KU AD, you hire the next Head coach who takes over after KU suffers three loss.

Ha. I'd take Kevin Sumlin in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, we've got so many areas that we struggled in last year that we could hire any quality coach and it would likely improve on who we have.

Do what Gundy did to find his OC. Go to lower level football, find a guy who is tearing it up. And then give him way more money than what the D2 school is paying him.

Or go get a local JUCO or D2 guy. Help recruit in-state guys and have success at their previous stops. Like Beck at Pitt State.

I would like to see them hire a former head coach that is on his way down, but still wants to coach.

This is not a dig on Beaty. There is no secret I want Beaty gone. However I think he could benefit from someone on staff that has head coaching experience.

I listened to an interview with Ron Riviera, and he said it was very valuable to have a coach with head coaching experience the first couple of years he was a head coach. I think it would benefit Beaty to have that to lean on.
