Does anybody know why we didn't shake hands? I could maybe, just maybe live with it if Mayfield made some derogatory remarks about KU coming in but I can find nothing. If that is not the case it was stupid to poke the bear. Probably was anyway. Even if it was justified you shouldn't do it. The next question is whether the NCAA or the league will do anything to Mayfield for his obscene gestures to the KU sideline. The stupid commentators said well as long as he isn't getting the team penalized? REALLY??? That's beyond unsportsmanlike. He should have been ejected. But NO, he is still a Heisman candidate so we will sweep it under the rug.

Completely. It would be bush league if KU were 9-1 and it's even more pathetic at 1-9.

Agreed! Even if Mayfield said something to the press leading up to the game you don't do that.

Mayfield has a reputation and he may have said something provocative during last year's game. Who knows. There's still no excuse for starting the game with essentially a middle finger to your opponent.

Mayfield apologized after the game for his actions, to fans on both sides and to Kansas athletics.

Beaty mumbled something about KU having to be classier.

I asked my son who coaches at Free State. He says the Dineen kid is pretty reserved and not really outspoken so if he wouldn't shake something is going on. He has not been able to find out either. Inquiring minds want to know.

Still there is no excuse for grabbing your crotch and yelling FU at the KU sideline. Especially, on national TV. The sad part is it will be irrelevant come Heisman time.

Mayfield's already agreed with that and apologized.

He's taken far more ownership of his poor choices than anyone on the KU side did today.

Weak explanations from Dineen and Beaty here: http://www.espn.com/college-football/sto...-kansas-players

Dineen acknowledged afterward that refusing to shake Mayfield's hand looked bad but said the Jayhawks didn't intend to be disrespectful.

"It wasn't an attack on him personally at all," Dineen said. "I respect him. He's obviously a great player. It was more for us personally to kind of put our foot down and kind of get a little bit fired up before the game and let them know that we're here and we're not going to just back down because you're Oklahoma."

Jayhawks coach David Beaty said he understood the message his players were trying to send by refusing to shake hands, but added, "I've got to do a better job as their coach, maybe teaching them how to manage that a little bit better. ... But I certainly don't think it was anything more than the fact that this is a football game. It's a football game, and we're going to defend our grass. From that standpoint, I think it helped us. We were ready to go."

Quite different than coach Self's reaction to a similar situation. Coach Beaty has NO clue to what he is doing.

The whole thing was just another instance of a lack of discipline. Players should know that this is not what the staff expects of them, but they do it anyway. We’re in year-3 week-11 and the staff has to tell the kids this is how we do things.

Forget blocking and tackling, let’s work on that pre-game.

And two captains don't show for the postgame interviews. Nice.

We have a real humdinger of a football program. Beaty is building up the discipline the right way. Trust the process, "man."

My favorite part was there were two small children in KU gear standing right there to watch their beloved Jayhawks act like jerks.

Yeah, Dineen, the video looks bad.

Yeah, the kids helped make it a magic moment. And Dineen's nervous shuffling from side to side while looking down.

Good, good stuff.

With one last game of the Beaty era, he should meet pregame prior to coin toss and shake a real head coach’s hand. Then turn to the captains and make sure they do the same.

Embarrassing displays today for the university.
