What happened with this guy? When we recruited him he was all that and a bag of chips. Now the LJW puts up a story about our inexperienced secondary and there is no mention of the Money man.

He's in the 2 deep rotation at the nickel spot last I heard. He'll play this year.

Yeah he'll play quite a bit. All the special teams and as a backup NB and backup corner I'd imagine too.

Mayberry is almost always the third corner brought up when Bowen, Beaty, or Perry discuss the defense.

Shak and Defense are the two starters at CB, and Mayberry is right behind them.

Likely just an oversight by Benton.

Mayberry mentioned here:

http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/aug/11/tom-keegan-five-close-battles-starting-spots-highl/

4 - Nickelback: Kyle Mayberry and Derrick Neal.

Tevin Shaw, such a smart football player, played the position with a physical edge and earned high grades for run support. Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen wants more speed at nickel this season to combat the relentless Big 12 passing offenses. Whereas Shaw was more like having an extra safety on the field, Mayberry and Neal are cornerbacks.

Neal appeared to have the edge in the spring, but the gap has closed, and this is as tough a call as there is on the top line of the depth chart.

Edge: Neal.

I think Mayberry is going to be a starter for us, but I'd agree on Neal having the edge right now. Mayberry is still very young and inexperienced, but he's got the tools to succeed once he gains more experience IMHO.

I think Mayberry is running 2nd team because the coaches want him to settle down and concentrate on tackling and not just hitting. Damn k-man, every time I see your avatar I think I'm talking with Coach Fam!

Well Keegan cleared up my question about Mayberry. Smith should have mentioned Mayberry because he is a perfect example for the article. Overall I like Smith's articles but he dropped the ball in that one. I will cut him some slack since it is still pre-season.
