Vaughn is listed at 230lbs. You also got Long at 24lbs., McCaleb at 240lbs., and Ash at 285lbs. all at DE in case Ehambe takes awhile to get back up to speed.

I see Bean as more of a pass rush specialist at the DE spot. He's super athletic and very quick for his size. I also think he'll start out the season between 215lbs. and 220lbs.

Long, despite being only 6'2", may be the next most talented DE behind Armstrong. I think he's gonna have a marked improvement this year. Kid is just as athletic as Dorance if not more so and he's at the same weight as Armstrong now. Kid is a beast.

When I saw both Long and Bean get in games late last year, you could see how raw they both were still. But, you could also see just how much talent and potential both had. They got in on some plays where they had almost no business being able to get in on them but their athleticism allowed them to get there.

While I'd love to have 3 or 4 Dorance type guys running around that ain't happening. That ain't happening in any program actually, but I think we've got enough quality guys to be OK even if Ehambe isn't back up to snuff yet.

Edit Reason: not all at DT, but DE

I think Long is next in line as "very good to great" DE. Super athletic, can easily play LB. Had the speed and quickness in big class Texas hsfb to outrun guys. Coming out of HS I had a Rivals scout tell me he could play receiver as a freshman at KU. (That's some athleticism.)

Offense should be in the middle of their 2nd cycle on install right now. This offense takes 3 days to install. But after the first cycle is when the offense starts to have different options on routes. And to help the guys further learn the hand signals of Meacham. Because the terminology is all the same, but the signals are all different.

Kinda forgot about Deron Thompson. Curious how he fits into the offense this year.

Sounds like he's got some serious speed with the ability to take it to the house on any given play.

It really looks like KU is going to have a ton of weapons on offense this year. I can't wait to see how Meacham plans on using them all.

I agree. I think we've got 2 All-Conference guys in Sims and Charlot and a bunch of other guys right behind them. Coach Beaty has really be talking up Quan Hampton and Kerr Johnson too. 2 guys who obviously still have to prove it on the field here at KU along with Deron, but that's 3 new guys in addition to the good quality WR's/TE (Johnson, Harrell, Booker, Patrick, etc.) we already knew we had coming back.

If our QB situation turns out as well as it feels like it is going to and the OL is as good as people have been saying from the early returns of fall practice, then our receiving yards should be noticeably improved this year. I know that reads as depending on 2 "ifs", but I don't think our OL being significantly improved is much of an if. I think it's mostly going to depend on the QB play.

But ultimately I'm with you in that I think the most interesting question about our O this year will be to see what all Meacham brings to the table with the weapons we've got on O and how well will that translate to our overall O performance. I really believe if he can make even a modest improvement with our O we should win at least 4 games this year.

I'm both cautiously excited and very curious to see how it all goes this year with the O and Meacham.

I will be "in the house" Sept 2nd. Also curious on who plays in the revamped D secondary. And if we replace Quiv enough on O to up the TOP on that side of the ball.

Right. But will he actually stay at RB?

I expected him to play more of a role like Kevontae Turpin at TCU or Pierson of previous years, but that sounds like what Quan's role is right now...not to say they can't both do those things.

Sounds like Sims is leading the way to be the punt returner with Kerr and Quan behind him.

Beaty mentioned that having Sims as a PR could be a way to get him to NFL faster than being a WR only.. And not saying Sims is like him, but before Antonio Brown became a top NFL WR, he was a kick and punt returner for Central Michigan, on top of being a 1,000 yard receiver during his 3 years for the Chips.

Not overly surprising to read that Wise get reps at DE.

While it would seem crazy since Wise was all conference, if J.J. Holmes is as good as expected and DeeIsaac, Holani, and Dezir are improving, Wise at DE might be an improvement over Ehambe, Bean, etc.
