The first 5 games of this season may decide Beaty's fate just as the first 5 games of 2003 decided the Buddha's fate. That roadtrip to Ohio looms as large as the Buddha's trip out to Laramie when the rising of FlashGordon began. Bender and this Alabama project need some of these kinda connections:

I kind of forgot how big that Wyoming game was. And I do agree, that will be the game that will be a deciding game for 2017. I do believe KU will be 2-0 heading into that game, and they could easily make it 3-0 before conference play begins.

Nice straw man attempt.

I never said 2-22 was any kind of moral or other theoretical "victory" and yes results are results ultimately in the long run, but to blindly look at the 1st 2 seasons under coach Beaty and directly compare the W-L record to the last 2 coaches 1st 2 seasons is a flawed exercise lacking any context or understanding. It's not very useful.

I agree with 58 here. Gameball had a decent amount of talent on the team and a FULL ROSTER when he was fired. The situation was bad, but still a lot better than what coach Beaty took over.

Good point about the possible importance of the Ohio game this year compared to the importance of the Wyoming game back in 2003. It could have a similar effect on the mentality of the team that that Wyoming game did.

I agree the first 5 games of this year are going to be important in a lot of ways, but I think coach Beaty has a longer leash still than Mangino had back in 2003 for a lot of reasons, but it'll still set the tone for the rest of the season and that'll in turn set the tone for the 2018 season when the rubber will have to meet the road for coach Beaty IMO.

And MU, KSU, ISU, CU, and NU plus three made for a much easier set of games than we play now in conference year to year.

2003:Northwestern L 28 to 20.
UNLV W 46 to 24
at Wyoming W 42 to 35
Jacksonville State W 41 to 6
Slavers W 35 to 14
We then went 2 and 5 the rest of the way to limp into a bowl game. Those losses included one of the worst beat downs of the KU defense I've personally witnessed down in Stoolwater when the Pokes ran all over KU's defense and WildBillWhit was on the mend. Still, the Buddha got the job done and got us down to Orlando. I'll take that season right now.

2017 SE Missoura State Home
Central Michigan Home
Ohio Away
West Virginia Home
Texas Tech Home

Obviously, we'll be the biggest dog to WVU. They'll have about the same ranking as Brad Smith's top 25 ranked tiggers in 03. Tech probably isn't as good as Northwestern was back then. If Beaty is gonna do it, a 4 and 1 record outta the gate is entirely w/in expectations for the program. And I expect the same sorta effort outta Beaty we saw outta the Buddha. If MikeLee can play slot receiver, put him in the slot just has Flash Gordon had to start backpedaling drills halfway through the season.
