I would agree--especially with at least two conference teams building brand new stadiums for less.

Curious to see where the indoor facility ends up, and the overall year to year plans--or if he plans to get it done in one offseason (which seems unlikely).

Also interested to see if it actually increases ticket sales/attendance--and by how much.

According to the "letter" (via email) from Zenger, HNTB will be doing the "renderings."

It will also take 3-5 years to complete.

The timeline will be dependent on the donations of us "average Joe's" in large part as I believe they think they've gotten commitments for what larger donations they can already.

Have heard the optimal plan will be done in 3 phases over the course of 3 off-seasons and the reason why the price tag is so high despite it being a renovation is because KU isn't cutting any corners and doing this thing first class.

I think this is going to look amazing and shock the hell out of a lot of our less attentive football fans when it gets done.

So this is a 5 year plan that may actually start.

Dear Jayhawk Fan,

It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you today. As many of you have heard or read in the last 24 hours, we have announced a plan to renovate Memorial Stadium. This massive project – with an estimated cost upwards of $300 million – will position Kansas football as a national leader among conference and power five programs for generations to come.

Thanks to the hard work, creativity, and innovation of HNTB in Kansas City, we will have finalized renderings in three weeks and will release them, along with more specific details of this project, to the public in September. The goal for completing this project is to use a phased approach spanning 3-5 years.

Currently, we are concentrating on segments that will directly impact our football student-athletes, as evidenced by the newly renovated locker room, players’ lounge, Mrkonic Auditorium and outdoor practice fields. Next on the list will include the construction of an indoor football facility, which we have needed for decades and will enhance our team's ability to more effectively prepare for games.

The fan-amenity phase of Memorial Stadium Renovations will focus on improving hospitality spaces for season ticket holders at many price points. These amenities will make coming to Memorial Stadium a more special, extraordinary experience.

As I have stated before with great enthusiasm, it is a special time to be a Jayhawk! With the recent announcement of new Chancellor Dr. Douglas Girod and the remarkable construction all over our campus, there is a great deal of excitement surrounding KU. The announcement of this project only adds to that excitement.

With the deck of all other facilities projects cleared, our attention is solely focused on helping elevate our football program. We will use multiple revenue streams to fund this large-scale project; chief among them will be the philanthropic support of our donors and fans. I cannot overstate the importance of your role as loyal Jayhawks in the completion of this endeavor. We will need your help and support to make this plan a reality.

Once again, thank you for your continued support and loyalty to all of our programs. Stay tuned for more information on this historic project to be released in September.

Rock Chalk!

Are they making it bigger or just vastly improving the current size. 300 million doesn't get you that much anymore. But anything will be an improvement.

$300 million will go a long way in Kansas.

Happy Birthday, usher.

I believe the goal is just improvements. More seat backs. Better sight lines. Prettying the place up. Rounding off the bowl.

It's a [n]3 to 5[/b] plan and whether it's 3 years versus 5 years is going to be largely dependent on how many donations they can get from us fans and how quickly they can get them, so step up if you can! I know I am.

Oh, and it's happening. There's NO "may" in it, it's a definite.

Definitely a possibility is what you mean. I seem to remember fundraising for the gridiron club. Can you tell me where it is? Either the funds or the club?
