If Graham comes back:

Udoka
Mykhailiuk
Graham
Vick/Garrett
Preston

If Graham Leaves
Udoka
Mykhailiuk
Coleby/Bragg
Vick/Garrett
Preston

Off the bench
Bragg
Lightfoot
Cunliffe (after first semester)

Not a lot of wow here.

Where's he going? What are you hearing?

Already used his redshirt year. And he's attached at the hip to Devonte, who will probably be back next year.

He'd better stay. Otherwise Self wasted a scholarship and the kid breaks his promise.

Bragg is gone. Whether he likes it or not. Can't play with back to basket, and no room for him anywhere else. Self will push him out of the program.

Vick will be a starter next year. His upside is enormous. But there's some talk about too much baggage and Self chasing him off. Very doubtful, he's too gifted athletically.

Duval to Duke. Our backcourt already too crowded and he wants to run the show. If Graham leaves he may come. Otherwise, this is Devonte's team next year.

Preston one and done? Not so sure.

And I've said it a million times already--Svi is gone. NBA or Europe.

Norm Roberts is on nobody's short list to coach anywhere.

Townsend will have some suitors. It would have to be a plum job to lure him away. He has said many times he has "the greatest assistant job in America."

Dok will start. Malik will stay and be our stud guard. Bill will get a late surprise recruit. Next year's team will be a typical inside out Self squad. No smoke and mirrors act with a weak front court like this year's team. And no more soft Lucas. I am amazed we won 31 and actually made an E8. Final 4 next year fo sure if Bill lets an assistant coach the E8 game. Oh snap.

Duke has three guards of Luke Kennard, Grayson Allen, Frank Jackson. Two are projected to be NBA bound but Grayson Allen might return that would have Trevon Duval headed to KU! shocked

Tevon Duvall still undecided. NBA Draft will be soon for player declaring and returning.

I don't know if you missed anything. I guess some think we are still recruiting Duval, which we might be still, bit don't think we land him with our current roster situation.

Graham
Newman
Udoka
Preston
Vick
Thats what I see for a starting 5 for next season. Leaves us with a small rotation of Cunliffe, Coleby, Lightfoot, and Garrett. Duvall would be a nice addition yet, but I think Svi will come back and then he is a starter with Vick coming down as a super sub.

It would seem to me that Graham, Newman and Preston are likely starters. Not sure about the other two spots. I am wondering what Self knows. It seems unlikely that he would pass on Duvel if he thought there was a good chance of getting him. So why did he go with Moore? Perhaps he strongly thinks Svi is going NBA and so still has a chance for Duval. Maybe he knew that Duvel was a no go and so Moore was a good get no matter what Svi does. I guess only time will settle all the dust and we'll know exactly where we stand. Whatever, the next two years look like they could be exciting with a lot of potential.

White3 can't play defense. He will never even make a roster or hardly see any PT. He might get some D-league time, but won't get much else. He wasn't even the best player on the team at Nebraska last year. Talent to be a great one, but no work ethic. If he would have given alittle bit more here, he might very well have been a NBA caliber player.

Of course, he's a upgrade. Graham will do OK at the point but a one and done is better than a Europe bench guard.

The spring signing period for college basketball players ends on May 17.

Graham knows the coach, system and some of the players. No learning curve except to get better. He's already pretty good. He's much better prepared to lead our team than Duvall, even if Duvall might be a better player. Duvall would have to learn all that Graham already knows. Yeah, Graham's the choice, if there's one to be made.

At this point do we even have enough room for Duvall?

I would say that between Malik and Graham we are covered at the pg position. Graham will be our lead guard, and thats going to be ok.

Duvall being a pg, would more than likely be in an offense that allows for pg's to dominate the game. Sure Frank was that man this season, but we all know Self prefers inside out first. I don't think Duvall would get the full "trust factor" until mid-season at best. Frank earned that trust for 4 years and knew his limits.

Very thoughtful post (as always) Jayhawk1952, but--

Is there any doubt Doke is a starter next season? He should be a dominating offensive (and defensive) factor in the paint. It's the only thing we lacked last season.

Moore was a great get by Coach Self. We have a legitimate pg for 2018-19 no matter what happens on the recruiting front going forward. Since he's sitting a year, whatever Duval decides is a moot point.

I'm excited about next season, but absolutely drooling over the 2018-19 team and Self's not even done putting it together yet.

Preston, Doke, Malik, Graham and ..........Svi, Legerald, Cunliffe(after semester), Garrett and Lightfoot. Seems to me we are solid heading into next year.

Sure looks like a Hi-lo offensive format for our talent next season. Preston doesn't appear to be as athletic as Jackson.

I tend to agree with you Michhawk.

And I think we're gonna be exposed in the paint again next year. Doke will do fine, but the other three (Preston, Whitman and Lightfoot) can't play the 5 spot and are not true traditional post players. Just like Carlton Bragg.

Let's hope for a big year from Preston.

The writing is on the wall. Popovich and his Spurs will win the NBA Title. Popovich retirs...GM Buford says Bill come on down. Bill does...KU falls into mediocrity. Something is amiss when Bill can't land a recruiting class as good as Mizzou.

The most KU basketball loving poster I know on the dot net quit posting a month ago. This individual is privy to a lot of going ons with Kansas hoops. I am afraid he knows that something bad is going on with the program. Of course I hope not but there is a weirdness to this recruiting season.

It's no different than any other year. No one expected Duval to come to KU. He's been headed for Duke all the way. As for more transfers than usual, Bill always takes the best available, and he needed experience for next year when we will lose a lot. And Missouri can't really take credit. It's their new coach who attracted the players. No doubt all of them will be sorry.

I don't really like whats happening with this recruiting class as well. DC was a valuable asset moving into next season. Bigs that can rebound and guard are not a dime of dozen. I am pretty sure he was asked to leave, and got his schollie pulled.

I too, smell a Spurs landing coming. As far as Mizzou goes, Martin couldn't coach his top 10 talent at Cali, why will it be different at Mizzou?

I think too much is being made of Self’s transfers approach. First, it would seem that he had some available that were too good to pass up. Second, it seems that he has a harder time obtaining multiple one and done than Cal. Getting some good transfers that have a year of playing time under their belt is better than a bunch of unproven one and done. It was just five years ago that Cal’s bunch of one and done only made it to the NIT. Third, I think we are seeing Self becoming more and more flexible. This past season he moved away from the high/low system (he was forced to). He now may be moving more to utilizing transfers than before because he sees a need to if he’s going to get the year end trophy. I may be all wet, but I don’t see Self getting ready to jump ship to the NBA. Neither is there any school that would be tempting to him. I think he desires another NCAA championship as much or more than any of us, and he wants to get it at Kansas, the ultimate NCAA coaching chair. It was hot when he arrived, it’s getting hotter. Self is not one to pass up a challenge.

HCBS seems like an odd hire for the nba's best franchise. I don't buy it.

I do buy HCBS to the league. Just not the spurs.

Are you really that dense. The Spur's General Manager is one of Bills best friends. His son was a walk on for Bill several years back. Duuuurrrhhhhhhhh

Does being somebody's buddy get you the best job for the best franchise in the nba?

It sure doesn't hurt. Think McMichhawk...think. I mean who would be better. The Bulls hired the Mayor...the Celtics hired Brad Stevens. Are they any better than Self. Self would be great at San Antonio. Pop probably won't really retire but you never know ..

Very strange. This off season is very strange.

3 days later and this is still very perplexing to me. If the Svi stays in the draft, this "move out" of DC will go down as one of the best player management headscratch'ers of the HCBS era.

I agree. He would be a good asset. But, wow, I don't have a clue about what's going to happen. Makes me wonder what Self may know that we don't, if anything.

You could well be correct. But I'm not going to believe it until it happens, if it does. It's hard for me to believe that Self is willing to bow out with just one championship when the potential for 1 - 3 more are staring him in the face in the next three years and more beyond that. He is also the only coach who has ever won 13 consecutive conference championships and one more he'll be the coach at the only school that has ever won 14 consecutive conference championships. Yeah, I know you think they are worthless, but I'll take them as they come as will many other fans. I don't think the picture is as dark as you like to sometimes paint it.

Dark...nah. Just being honest about things. KU will get another good coach and they will still win. Bill is actually now tied with the Wizard of Westwood for consecutive conference titles.

I believe that the Wizard only won 9 of the 13 consecutive conf. titles for UCLA so Self is by himself with 13 consecutive titles.

Wooden's part of the streak was from 1967 - 75 and then he retired. They had about four consecutive championships and then took 2nd in 1966. Then the streak went to 13 but the last four without Wooden.

I'm attempting to start a rumor that with Tevon Duvall's unfavorable KU decision making, that Bill Self has decided to move Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk over to the point to showcase his skills at the point. Graham sits the bench as a future D league-r sitting next to Brady Morningstar.
