Any ideas who our next d-line and strength coach will be? Hate to see Jackson and Slater go. Our d-line was a real strength and Beaty always seemed high on Jackson.

Don't think Slater was too happy that he didn't receive a raise. But also, he just seemed to kind of hide behind the shadows a bit with the program. Just seemed like a bit of an outcast. (Literally just about spelled outcast like the music group Outkast) The DL was great, but a lot of that is great talent.

The worst one by far is Jackson leaving. Right in the middle of offseason workouts, at least they'll have a new strength guy by the summer. I would guess at this point, they will likely promote someone from within to finish the winter and then have a new guy by summer. Since Jackson is not leaving to another school, instead going medical field, he will be a great mentor to whoever they could promote to the role to finish winter workouts.

It definitely is curious to see Slater leave after Dorance and Wise blew up this year. He was also retweeting recruits and posting JayCrew18 stuff last week.

Not happy to see either leave, but I am interested in seeing who replaces them.

Beaty should go after the best strength and conditioning coach in the nation, Andrea Hudy.

I'd like to see us get Ron McKeefery. One of the best in the business, from the Kansas City, Mo. area. He, also, played football right down the road at Ottawa University.

Or Slater didn't get a raise because he was leaving. Just a wild guess though.

Right. They say Jackson is leaving for another job, and they say Slater will not return.

One of those sounds like "fired" and the other sounds like "new job"

Strange timing on Slater--unless we find out more soon. To me, this means we already have someone lined up, or we waited too long to let him go (as that's how it sounds).

According to the release from KU Athletics - Slater did not have his contract renewed...

Word is Slater was fired and Jackson left so he could be more involved with his children as a P-5 level S&C job is a lot more time consuming than your average M-F job.

I believe Slater knew he was going to be fired for a couple months now actually. Won't be 1 bit surprised if his replacement isn't already hired, but nothing official will be known until he actually gets to KU. I'm betting the new guy is coming from another program and that's why they're so extremely quiet about it.

Not sure about the coach Jackson replacement, but I'd also be shocked if his replacement isn't also already hired or at the least very close to it. Coach Beaty usually has this stuff lined up before making announcements about coaches leaving and keeps everything very close to the chest so to speak.

Not sure what happened with coach Slater, but I've been told that they wanted to keep coach Jackson from changing careers.

Best of luck to both coaches and I hope we find out sooner than later who the new coaches are.

Just when it seems like KU football is making progress. They take a step backward. Regardless of why it is a bad deal to be losing two coaches right now. For all the talk about needing stability in the coaching staff, there has been nothing but instability. Hopefully this works out for the best,

It seems like Zac Woodfin is taking over S&C program. Has been mostly in the south. At Southern Miss and UAB before they disbanded the program. He is also currently the interim AD at Southern Miss currently. Younger guy, in his low 30's it seems.

He's 33 and has some NFL playing experience. Packers, Texans, and Ravens.

Appears to be an excellent hire based on the half dozen articles on him that I have read.

Lists the finalists for 2014. Mentions Zac Woodfin. Sounds enthusiastic enough.

After reading the article I have some ?? It said he was the only S&C coach at Ole Miss. How many S&C coaches does KU have and what are their responsibilities? Does Hudy do just MBB or does she have other athletes she is responsible for? When do S&C coaches go on vacation?

He was at Southern Miss, not Ole Miss. Big difference!

From KU Athletics:

"Andrea Hudy, the Assistant Athletics Director for Sport Performance, joined the Kansas staff in Sept. 2004. Since her arrival at KU, Hudy has handled the strength and conditioning responsibilities for the KU men’s basketball team. Hudy oversees the Anderson Strength and Conditioning Complex for all KU sports."

Woodfin will be football only.
