Pretty remarkable how different the attitude around the program was at the time of the loss #1 on this list. Reesing was arguably a Heisman candidate, Mangino was confident, and many considered this Colorado loss to be a surprise and a minor hiccup.

I would hate to image what the KU football record would be without being able to schedule "easy" teams at home.

Future non-con road games include:

2015 - @ Rutgers
2016 - @ Memphis
2017 - @ Hawaii, @ Ohio U.
2018 - @ Central Michigan
2019 - @ Houston

Not exactly murderers' row, that group. But I wouldn't put it past KAI to cancel a cupcake game above in favor of a non-con invitation from the SEC... for a game in which KU would be considered the cupcake.

At some point we'll have to win a road game. For whatever reason, I imagine it will happen with a conference team. Somebody overestimates us or whatever that reason. Maybe KU defense takes out the opposing team's QB's. It happened that year with ranked Colorado at home during the Terrible Terry years. Why not? Though that did happen in Lawrence it was pretty awesome to see.

Problem of playing a cupcake on the road is trying to get a D1 stadium to sell tickets for it

We need to take our sorry arse football team and move to the ACC. Probably get a bowl game every or every other year. I mean I'd rather go play at Wake Forest then Waco. Of course KU basketball reinforces the notion that its still the best basketball P5 conference.

The fans for KU probably still like Waco to travel to over Wake. Football fans that is. There are some penalties in place now that might reduce our revenue even further.

Yeah I'm sure they would. Revenue aside, to me it would make sense. I mean will we ever be able to win the Big 12 in football? We might challenge in the ACC.

The revenue is a BIG deal to the AD. If revenue aside, we could dominate some conference. But I/we want to go to P5 level don't we? I look at us and think California or Stanford.

I'm talking about football revenue, Kansas bbl makes money now and into the future. I think our potential for football revenue can help us become BG12 competitive.

The stream of bbl revenue is maxing out currently.
Football games would be hits financially IF we can hire the right coach and stay in BG12. Who wants to see Kansas playing Rutgers year over year versus KU against OK, TX etc.? Strong did well at Louisville for example. Look at Duke's efforts.

Road streak most worthy topic on the message board.

KU has a chance to end it on Sat, Oct. 3 Kansas at Iowa State. If not, then it be a whole year for a realistic chance to win, baring a football miracle.

Everyone has a chance to be pretty competitive in the preseason.

Not to bring in statistics, but Richardson ranked 11th in QB rating in the Big 12 (min 150 attempts)...that's pretty underwhelming.

We want Richardson playing b/c by then the Hawks new offense will be rolling. Their D exposed by the likes of N Iowa.

Not to mention, this "solid" QB as a Senior has yet to win a Big 12 game that he has started in.

sam could be the man!

Richardson is coming off a junior campaign where he recorded one of the best statistical seasons by an ISU quarterback in school history. He ranked third in the Big 12 and 13th nationally in completions per game (23.1), setting the school record for completions in a season with 254.

Even then, he was a dual threat QB, more famous for his scrambling plays, compared to standing in the pocket and making throws.

I'm honestly trying to think why people think there is that much difference between ISU and KU. Both lost a lot of talent on defensive side of the ball. ISU lost their two top running backs and some massive offensive linemen. Both lost All Big 12 TEs. Not much difference between the two.

I might remember. Will depend on what the drink special is that day.

Not certain how Richardson being terrible and ISU QBs of history being garbage hinges on one game...but then I remember: tm told me so.

November 8, 2014, Kansas defeated Iowa State by the score of 34-14 that was led by Richardson in Lawrence. Another season of Mangino tutoring and a full Ames stadium should be a challenge this year. KUSports frontg page has " Michael Cummings with a serious knee injury" so looks like the losing streak will continue. With Cumming I'd say ISU was the Vegas favorite.

Richardson didn't play in the loss. He had hurt feelings and had to sit out.

Since Rutgers is a power conference team (Big 10), I went back to see when was the last time KU beat a power conference team in non-con play on the road.

I believe it was September 5, 1992, when KU beat Oregon State 49-7 in Corvallis. Is anyone aware of a more recent non-con road victory against a power / BCS conference opponent?

Still have a hard time thinking of the State University of New Jersey as a Power 5 school. Gotta love TV sets.

Played Northwestern in 2003 and 2004, I believe. Both games were close, 8 point loss and 3 point loss on the road. Other than that, Mangino did not play any Power 5 schools out of conference. Best road game he played was probably at USF in 2008 with that wild game.

Haven't really had chances for any non-con P5 road wins. 3 chances in the last 11 years. Meanwhile a team like Northwestern has had one almost every year. I'm not saying to go out and play big schools, but the opportunity really hasn't been there. And the last 2 games on the road were against top 30 teams in GT and Duke.

Best chance to end the streak is against Rutgers or at Iowa State. 30% chance of winning at Rutgers and 40% at Iowa State.

I actually drove to that game. GilbertBrown/DanaStubblefield totally dominated that game. I still do not understand how we lost 4 games that year. When Stubby was on, he'd be in the backfield w/ the snap. Guy was a 300#er that was quick as a cat.

Idaho State had a 48 game losing streak on the road so we're not close to the record yet. I'm confident that Bowen's defense can get us there.

In case you missed it, our defense was way better today. Take away that bonehead horse collar penalty on Goodman and we only give up 20. Nothing wrong with a bend but don't break defense.

Seems like Northwestern had a longer streak in the early 1980s. Derp came dam close up in Ames to ending this streak and WTFChuck had the triple OT down in Lubbock. This can be done.

More important is fixing the mess. Listening to the Old Bucktoothed Wizard's radio show every week for 25 years, that man doesn't even acknowledge this kinda crap. The only thing he notes is effort and improvement. Since he pretty much wrote the book on how to fix messes like this, we probably ought to take note.

And I happen to think this team has done a great job with their effort. I haven't really seen any player significantly loaf, and it seems like all mistakes made are done at full speed.

There has been improvement in some areas. The defense, sans the Memphis game, has done a good job making adjustments and limiting points in the second half.

Seems like Northwestern had a longer streak in the early 1980s.

Northwestern lost 27 straight road games between 1978 and 1982. The last game before that streak began was a 0-0 road tie against Illinois. They won on the road in '82 against Michigan State.

You're right. Bad luck has been a big factor in this streak getting so long.

Eventually KU will get a few good breaks early in a game, and will find a way to win on the road.

Hopefully by 2024 we're actually in the B1G.

I think we play on the road at some MAC places in the next few years...Ohio and CMU. I think there's a solid chance we get it done if Beaty learns how to coach. People can bag on the talentless players, but this is a guy who has been mainly a WR coach his whole career. He has a lot to learn, I mean the dude referenced "travel going smoothly" as a positive from the Rutgers trip. No wins on the road for a long time when this is one of your takeaways.

Yes Beaty has a lot to learn but so did a guy named Glen Mason who came from the MAC.

Was Mason a college WR coach before coming to Kansas? So it's a bit different in that case.

Sometimes you gotta take the chance on catching some fire. Ksuck did that w/ the BucktoothedWizard and struck gold. Freddy had every opportunity to scoop up Snyder in 88 and wouldn't because he didn't have HC experience.

My point was that it took Mason some time to figure out what he needed to do to be successful. He did struggle at first.

Snyder was also a very proven coordinator from a P5 program (Iowa). Bo Schembechler allegedly said upon hearing that he was going to KSU: "good. Get him the hell out of the BIg 10., or some such thing. HCDB might end up as good as OB, but he certainly has no where near the resume that OB brought to state.

OB is 76..ksu best days are behind them. KU is at the bottom now but I like our long range prognosis...the cancer known as gill and weis has been removed. We just need some time to heal, get to full strength, and then watch us roll.

It'd be dam nice to end it this week against the 40 y/o Man. Not just because that turd is such a pipsqueak but because he's been out-recruiting us in Wichita for years now. I always felt the Rise of Mason began w/ an unexpected win down in Stoolwater that ended a 17 year losing streak to those basTurds in 1991 I believe. Let's hope for the same beginning to the Legend of Beaty down in Stoolwater. Good luck to the team w/ the notoriously bad Stoolwater pregame meal of salsbury steak and cold peas.

Is there a guarantee in life to anything? Sorry the family business is being sold by the Simons family but the printing of the paper in Lawrence ceased years ago. Your Hometown Eagle is next to be sold IMO.

BTW it is being sold to another family led group which is a better situation than most.

KU isn't going bowling next season. Scheduling a 2017 road game at an Ivy 1-AA school would make fun press, and would end The Road Streak.

You know people would tune in to watch Kansas at Harvard or Kansas at Columbia. And east coast alums would love it.

KU should only have five road games next season (Ohio TCU Texas Gundy Cyclones), and the first road game of 2018 is a winnable one vs. Central Michigan. The streak might not reach 50!

Seems like a lot of people are circling Ohio as the game where KU ends The Road Streak. Vegas has Ohio's O/U at 7.5 wins this season. I don't think they will be a pushover.

Iowa State's O/U is 5.5 (road game for KU), Texas Tech 4.5 (home game).

i'd take a win over tech in lawrence being far more likely than beating the clones in ames. home field is worth ~5 points. and talent-wise, isu is within range of ku. plus, their coach is a proven commodity.

tech, on the other hand, is everyone's dog going into fall. whether that proves true will, obviously, be determined then not now. all we know for sure is that they've lost a lot of talent.

ISU curb-stomped KU in Ames in 2015 and 2013. The talent levels always seem comparable, but KU just hasn't played well in Ames in recent years.

Of course the score of the 2017 game will start off 0-0. Anything can happen.

ku's schedule is set well for the j'hawks to get off to a good start. beat ohio and it's 3-0. that gives tons of confidence and, presumably, a huge crowd for the conference opener v. wvu, then tech at home before going to ames. not unreasonable to see ku 5-1/4-2 heading to ft. worth, where the schedule starts to toughen considerably. it seems to me the bobcat game is critical to setting the season's 'turned corner' tone.

Casey - KU needs to be focused right now on game 1, and then the next one. Our program is not in a turn-around mode just yet for 2017. And that's what the most ardent fan(s) are saying about Kansas even with the best efforts of HC David Beaty.

"The Underpants Road Streak" is not the most important thing for Kansas HC to achieve in 2017.

After the CMU debacle, KU desperately needs the kind of win that gets a big monkey off the program's back. If they're going to end The Road Streak this season, Ohio seems like the place.

Iowa State looked pretty good in the CyHawk game. Not unbeatable, but pretty good.
