Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger fired women's basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson on Monday afternoon, making the announcement official in a news release.
"Bonnie has been an outstanding representative of the University of Kansas and Kansas Athletics," Zenger said. "It came down to the fact that we expect this program to rank among the best in the Big 12 conference, and we have not accomplished that goal."
"Given the importance that Zenger and the rest of the athletic department have put on head-to-head match-ups with Kansas State, Henrickson's 0-3 record against the Wildcats this season — which included a home loss and a Big 12 tournament setback in Dallas — as well as an overall mark of 6-19 against K-State may have had as much as anything to do with her firing."
Henrickson went 186-171 in 11 seasons at KU. The Jayhawks made the Sweet 16 in 2012 and 2013.
Assistant coach Katie O'Connor will serve as interim coach while KU searches for a full-time replacement.
