DUFFY! Not the most ideal matchups across the board here and already in the hole.

Duffy doing his usual wild but unhittable thing.

1-0 in the 4th thanks to a Hosmer HR.

Hopefully Duffy can get through 5-6 innings, and give the bullpen a chance to hold it down.

Duffy with a no-no through 5.

Looking sharp.

He reminds me of a slightly younger Gio Gonzalez.

Gonzalez at 24 was very wild...but has tempered that to a respectable level now at 27....which has turned him into an all-star.

Hopefully Duffy learns to harness that control slightly to take that next step, because he's certainly got the stuff to be a big-time pitcher.

Duffy loses the no-hitter to Cabrera in the 6th (no surprise there- he's ya know, awesome), but it's probably for the best.

Now Ned can go to the pen in the 7th without any hesitation.

Great job by Duffy though....fantastic performance.

6 innings of 1 hit ball from Duffy, broken up only by a lousy infield single, against perhaps the best lineup in baseball. Walked three and struck out three. Not incredibly efficient. Not always pretty. But a damn good start, especially for a guy making his second start in the majors this year and coming off TJ.

Leadoff double by Maxwell, Bonifacio fails to get the bunt down, then ends up with hitting a ground rule double.

2-0

Nice little break there.

Great to see new pickups Maxwell and Bonifacio string together doubles to take the lead to 2-0.

Also--can the Royals get Duffy another start in the minors and then get Getz off the roster to call him up permanently. Mendoza to AAA (if possible). Davis to the pen.

I'm pretty resigned to the fact Getz will probably be on the roster all season, but I am hoping for when Moose gets back, that Bonifacio starts getting the everyday reps at 2B.

I am too. But I can wish, right? If Bonifacio shows anything in this series, he should be the the starting 2B. Even if he sucks, he should be. He isn't a defensive liability and he is certainly a better (relative term) hitter than Getz.

This should be fun. The best against the best.

BIG win. Stealing one against Verlander softens the blow from missing a golden opportunity to get a W against Fernandez the other night.

The lost series v. Miami still sucks. But if Shields is on his game tonight and the Royals take both games today, that will be huge. Then all they need is one more and the series is a success.

Was looking at the schedule...how cruel for the fans that the Royals play their last seven on the road.

Big performance by Hosmer today. He is the MVP of the day. But the pitching performances can't be overstated. Duffy was composed and great. Shields was simply grinding for seven innings. Neither were particularly flashy. 4 strikeouts in 13 innings between the two. But both were huge today. And how about Holland? Two great innings. Two saves. Great doubleheader sweep. Two more big ones this weekend.

Detroit has one run in 18 innings of baseball in their house. This is after them having a 10 game winning streak at home. Who says these Royals arent for real. Do they make the playoffs ...who knows, but I bet some teams ahead of them including Detroit are looking over their respective shoulders.

Wade Davis is the perfect remedy for 1 run in 18 innings. Can't wait until he is out of the rotation. Hopefully he can give 5 decent innings and give the Royals' offense a chance to take another one.

Ok, what did I miss. Is it not Chens' turn in the rotation. The smart move would be to sent Davis down and not Duffy. Yost's moves is the one thing that will still prevent the Royals from having a chance at the playoffs.

Davis has to go. Maybe Duffy needs another rehab start or two. I'm not sure. But Davis has to go as soon as he's ready.

Taking 2 out of 5 in Detroit definitely kills whatever slim chance they had at taking the Central.

But taking 2 atleast keeps them somewhat alive in the Wild Card race...although being 6 back with only 39 to play is going to be very tough to pull off.
