Wade Davis already bad early tonight. Hopefully the offense can take advantage of Dillon Gee.

Big SF by LoCain. Tejada started off the inning with a booming double and the Royals won't go away.

No offense. Who really thought that Mendoza wouldn't blow it though? He sucks. When Duffy is ready to go, he needs to be DFA'd. Wade Davis can be the mid-to-long reliever.

Almost seems that Yost wanted to throw that game. I mean they fight to tie it up late. Then he throws Mendoza for multiple innings. Not the right guy for the job late.

And just when I thought Steady Neddy was making pretty good decisions lately. Oh well hope he doesnt fall into that bad pattern of piss poor pitching changes again. Or a 9 game winning streak could be followed by a 9 game losing streak.

...what do you think he should have done? Managers in general, not just Ned Yost, don't typically throw their closers out on the mound without a lead in extras. Mendoza, for better or for worse, is the mid-to-long reliever. I'm counting the days until it's (hopefully) Wade Davis when Duffy rejoins the rotation.

Here's an interesting fact: That passed ball by Salvy in the 8th was his first of the year.

BIG hit by Justin Maxwell. What a way to get your first HR as a Royal.

Managers are sheep and all too often slaves to the save rule.

No argument here. It just seems unproductive to shout at Yost specifically for something most every manager does, smart or not.

The error probably occurred the day before when he had Hochevar go 2 innings in a 7-2 game. I would have rather seen Mendoza in that spot so that you have Hoch available last night.

I don't know all the variables involved, but from my perspective it looked like another one of those little things that Yost does not think about (or handle well). Perhaps he wanted/needed to get Hoch some work and obviously you can't know what's coming the next game, but, in general, it's not advisable to use your hotter pitchers in games that are well-in-hand.

Big Miami, Seattle, and Chicago fan tonight. Would be nice to get 2 out of those 3.

Well the bad news is that Detroit, Cleveland, and New York won. The good news? Texas and Baltimore lost. Just keep on winning, Royals.

Once again if its meant for the Royals to make the playoffs. They need to take care of the Tribe and the Tigers straight up, plenty of games left with both.

There is a stretch where they play 12 consecutive games against the Tigers and Indians. That on top of the 5 game series with Detroit.

They have more than plenty of chances. I think the Indians are going to fade anyway. But Detroit isn't going anywhere. It will be interesting to see how the Royals handle those big series.

On a side note--I sure hope Perez is okay. He toughed it out staying in the game yesterday, but I wasn't expecting him to hit the 7 day DL.

Should not have stayed in the game. I don't care if we miss the playoffs by a game.

I guess I missed where he got hurt. Was that the ball he took off his mask. Thought that one got him in the chin. Cant miss him for many games...6-1 in the 8th...They got this one, but it looks like Cleveland and Detroit is going to win theirs also..Sigh, if that happens it means all 3 teams are 10-1 in their last 11. Wtf is the odds of that happening.

Salvy isn't a guy you want to risk.

8-1 road trip for the Royals. Would be a lot sweeter if the Tigers and Indians hadn't won at the same rate this past week and a half.

The Indians and Tigers start a 4 game series in Cleveland tomorrow night though. Great chance for the Royals to gain ground on one or both of them with the Twins coming to town.

Royals pick up a game on New York and Baltimore today. Texas and Cleveland win.

Still 4.5 out in the wild card race.
