Another good 9 day stretch of games here for the Royals to stay hot & keep catching up to the Indians & Tigers. Pelfrey vs Santana tonight

It doesn't matter. The Royals (and the Indians, for that matter) aren't going to make the playoffs. The Tigers play the Nats, White Sox, Indians, Yankees, White Sox, and Royals in the next couple of weeks. They're going to keep winning. The Royals can go ahead and go 7-2 in these next three easy series. They still aren't going to make the playoffs.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing another great start by Ervin (hopefully his last in a KC uniform--I can dream, right?) and continued improvement from Gordon and Butler.

Hell of a homerun by him. Would love to see him catch fire right now. If he comes into next year and plays up to his potential, that will be a big step in helping the Royals become a legitimate contender.

Someone who understands baseball.

Fixed your post.

In all seriousness though, it really is unrealistic to believe that the Royals will make the playoffs. I love that team. I have been a fan my whole life. I would LOVE to be wrong and see them make a dramatic run and sneak into the playoffs. But it just isn't happening.

Just from this road trip, it really amazes me how bad Chi and Min are compared to the rest of the division. I have no clue why Chi is struggling because they pretty much have the exact same lineup and rotation as last year when they finished second.

KC needs to keep it going. Two very winnable games left in Min and 3 winnable games in NY because neither Wheeler or Harvey will pitch against the Royals.

I am enjoying the wins! I was ecstatic to see Moose hit 2 HR last night. They have been great. It's just disappointing to me that when 3:00 comes and goes today, no one will have been traded. But in any case, I'm excited to see them win again tonight. I will be happy if they're good down the stretch and end up around 84-78. To me, that's bittersweet though. Because that's not a playoff record. And you didn't get anything.

But when the trade deadline comes and goes, I'll just be content to watch them play some good ball.

8 in a row! How awesome would it be if the Tigers and Indians would lose once in awhile? Indians riding a 7 game winning streak. Tigers have won 5 straight.

Denny Mathews talked tonight how amazing the Royals have been all year at not allowing big innings when the other team gets 2-3 guys on base. The 6th inning, when Minnesota led off with 3 singles, popped out, then a batter walked...yet only scored 1 run is a prime example. Or Escobar's throwing error puts the tying run on 2nd with 1 out in the 9th yet Twins couldn't score. Royals got the go-ahead because the SS booted a routine grounder. Earlier, a Twins batter roped one down the line just foul with guys on base. Perez made an amazing play. Butler fouled off about 6 pitches before getting a key seeing-eye single.

The above has been a trend in this amazing winning streak. Not to mention, in the 8 games, the Royals have given up an average of 1.5 runs!

This is all exciting and fun and cool. Then you realize that the team we're chasing for the last playoff spot is Cleveland, and they've won 7 in a row, keeping us 4.5 games back. Then you see that Baltimore and Texas...both way more explosive than KC...are both 4 games ahead. The slumping Yankees are 1 ahead of KC.

Combining the pessimism that the Royals have implanted in my brain for 20+ years, combined with all the teams in front of us, combined with my thought that the Royals can't possibly keep this near-miraculous string going, it seems all but impossible the Royals will be in any sort of serious race in September.

I'm conditioned to think that any day now KC will lose a game, which will snowball into losing 15 out of 20.

At this point, I think KC fans are pumped just to see a winning team. The records for KC the last 10 seasons are not pretty by any imagination. 2003 being the only exception. Last year at this time, they were 43-60. The year befor that was 46-62.

The schedule is not terrible. Play Miami, NYM, Seattle, Washington (who is slumping), a few more series against CWS, and Cleveland. Plenty of room to move up in the Wild Card. Meanwhile Baltimore plays in the hard AL East, and they just lost to Houston 11-0. So explosive.
