I expect my friend Craig will write this up soon, but...

The NFL and its players union are implementing HGH testing.

And by "implementing" I mean they have decided to STUDY the threshold for a positive test. And by "players union" I mean "an association of individuals with an average weight of 250 pounds whose jobs relate to hitting each other with their bodies."

Oh, but it is BASEBALL that has the drug problem.

And by "problem", I mean "actual testing regime that catches actual users and imposes actual penalties."

The biggest double standard in American sports. PEDs are basically just accepted by everyone associated with the NFL...including fans.

But lets be honest, the testing in Baseball isn't really stopping anyone from juicing.

Isn't it? Power numbers are way down, the program is catching violators...not sure there is evidence to say it's not working.

I am seeing more normal looking players these days than the steroid era. I heard an announcer saying that this was a dead ball era and I laughed and said, that was because they arent juicing.

I would say it still happens but the embaressment of getting caught is just as much a deterrent as penalties.

Your probably right about hard evidence. But just because a couple guys a year get popped for roids I'm suppose to belive that baseball is doing everything it can to stop steroids? The testing is designed to catch just enough players to make it appear that baseball really wants to catch these guys when we all know that they don't.

Power numbers....like Chris Davis?

Well...the program just dinged Ryan Braun 65 games without even a positive test. I'd say it's working as planned.

I also disagree that baseball doesn't want to catch them.

Fish I know you don't care if the players use and don't want to hear arguments about the integrity of the game records and so forth so how about this one.....the liability. With the NFL under such scrutiny for players safety it seem to me the liability of turning a blind eye to PED is only a future lawsuit waiting to happen.

Oh, of course the leagues should test. I just think it's laughable that it is baseball that has such a black eye on the entire issue, while 300+ pound guided missiles populate the NFL and no one bats an eye.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way.

I think most of this is the media. Most fans of both sports don't care that much about PEDs, I mean they don't want them, but really are just tired of hearing about them. Whenever an NFL guy gets a suspension, it is barely mentioned. When an MLBer is suspended, its the top story and gets debated ad nauseum by the talking heads about how baseball is ruined. I don't get it at all.

I get tired of the media's love affair with all things NFL. like on sportscenter the other night, the anchors were acting all giddy because NFL training camps were starting soon....really training camps. All other sports, they act like no one cares until the playoffs, or end of the regular season. I don't get it.

Just to your final point--spring training certainly gets attention. Maybe not as much as NFL training camp, but spring training is certainly a big deal in the national sports media.

I guess I should have been more clear, things get covered but when the anchors get excited for NFL boring preseason shite but cover other sports boring preseason shite with the appropriate lack of excitement it pisses me off. Or when they have their op-ed people talking about how no one cares about men's college hoops or baseball during the early summer, or the NBA until late spring, but then they're breaking down fantasy stats for then NFL in June it pisses me off. I get that the NFL is the most popular sport and I am a fan, but I think that the media is part of the reason that that is the case and they don't admit it. I mean if you watch sportscenter or other sports network shows and 60% of the content year round is NFL, you are going to be more familiar with it and talk about it at the water cooler more and then tune it to watch it more. and if the other sports are downplayed then of course people will get less excited for them.

I agree with most of what you said. The NFL does get covered excessively on ESPN. But, like you said, it's the most popular sport. They know how to make money, if nothing else.

It is, of course, their job to make money, and Disney's legal obligation to maximize value for its shareholders.

but they have programming dedicated to other sports. why not pump them up and try to increase interest in those as well?
