I understand that things are bad right now and its tough to have any hope. But I think we need a thread about some actual baseball.

1-0 Royals in the 2nd. Good start.

Yeah I would say it is a pretty good fanbase considering the Royals have not given it's fan base anything to cheer about since 1993 or sniffed a World Series since 1985.
Yet they are outdrawing your Indians by nearly 40,000 fans in four fewer home games with the Indians only one game out of first in the division. Great fan base indeed.

You all have made me wonder if I should become involved in watching the Royals again. Had my heart broken so many times in the past, yet the Royals were and always will be my first true love in any sport. 7 games back is definitely not impossible to come back from, but do I dare get my "hopes" up? So much pain if they let me down for the 30th time. I'll always wear my Royals hat with pride though.

There is a lot more to cheer for and like than there has been anytime in the last 15 years. That does not mean for a second that they are going to sniff the playoffs but more likely than in a very long time. Just enjoy them for what they are.

Great game and a great crowd tonight. The offense blew WAY too many solid opportunities, but you can't argue with shutting out what may be the best lineup in baseball.

I just had a neighbor who was at the game tell me it was mizzery night at the K last night and that a loud Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant started up from the crowd at some point.

Can anyone else confirm that? That's hilarious if true.

It was Misery nite, which I found odd since they had all the KU celebs (Riggle,Sudekis, Rudd, etc) there to do a celebrity wiffle ball game for charity. Also having a charity poker event tonight. They also sang "Take me out to the ball game" during the 7th inning stretch. KU celebs babee, does Misery even have any.

Like I've said before, I have no real issue with 14 talking sh!t about the Royals, but to insinuate the fan base sucks is just silly. The Indians are consistently a better organization and yet their fans don't care. They don't show up.

I guess those people are just too busy watching the Cavs and Browns. LOL.

Uh oh, are the Royals going to turn us into believers again? Only 6 games out of 1st, 4.5 out of 2nd. Cleveland has started the 2nd half off with two losses to the Twinkies. 8 back in the WC race is not encouraging.

I still think they ought to try and deal Santana for some prospects.

How bad does that 5 game slide and getting swept by the Tribe hurt now? Love taking two from Tigers but oh what could have been.....

I would say the 1-12 stretch is more brutal, but if you dwell on the past...especially the near past as a Royals fan, you'll just be depressed.

If they had gone 6-7 in that stretch and 3-2 instead of 0-5 before the break, they would be at the top of division.

I'm starting to "believe" again like in 2003. I was unaware we lost 5 in a row, but I really hope this is a sign that we're coming back. 6 gb is not easy to come back from, but if we win 2/3 of next 15 games, it's possible.

KC only gets two more cracks at Cleveland, neither series until September. But I believe they will fade down the stretch anyway. It doesn't have to be about being better than Detroit. The Royals don't have the starting pitching or lineup that Detroit has. Or the manager. But it doesn't have to be about being better than Detroit. There are 5 playoff spots. This is a tough stretch of games, but if they sweep Detroit and take 3 of 4 against Baltimore, they will be right back in the thick of things and near .500.

After that they get 3 in Chicago, 3 in Minnesota, 3 in New York (Mets), and 3 more at home against Minnesota. That is a stretch that will define their season. It's a shame the trade deadline comes in the middle of that, rather than at the end. If you can come out of that stretch winning 8-10 games, you're probably at the top of the division and in the hunt. You flip that and only win a handful, and it's completely over. I'm still of the mindset that Santana should be dealt. But I'm going to have an awful hard time telling myself that if they take 4 of the next 5 against Detroit and Baltimore.

Hey going 2-0 out of the break is a great start. Of course it depends on how they finish this home stand, if they go 5-2 or even 4-3 I dont see them selling.

I mean what could they get for Santana, any thoughts on that. I really dont know who or how many decent players would be offered to get Santana in a trade.

I see a different attitude with this team coming out of the break, hustling more, attempting more steals, Moose is actually stroking the ball. I am definetly more excited now than I was going into the AS break

That was Moose's first 3 hit game since the first week of the season. Week ONE.

Hey...I'm not really worried about what we will do down the stretch right now. We knocked Justin verlander around yesterday, and we have a chance to sweep the tigers today with Big Game James on the bump. Which is exactly what we need to happen right out of the all star break.

Have to take 3 out of 4 from Baltimore with Chen and crappy Davis starting the first two games. Detroit goes to the White Sox for four games. A sweep against the tigers would of been huge.

Did you really think the Royals were going to win the division this season over the Tigers. Hell I wasnt even buying that dream. But to finish 2nd and be several games over .500 ball, that would be a good year. Then take the division next year.

It is almost inconceivable to think that the Royals will win the division next year. Detroit has all of its most important pieces locked up for several more years. If they acquire a back-end bullpen guy or two, they are even more stacked. Unless they struggle next year, the Royals will be looking for a WC spot, I believe.

In any case, I think it's time to swap Santana for prospects unless you sweep Baltimore. This season isn't lost, but it sure doesn't look promising.

As Meatloaf would sing "2 out of 3 aint bad". If they Royals keep winning their series 2/3 or 3/4, anything is possible.

True enough. I don't want to bet on it aging well, but I would like to bet on it still being pretty damn good in 2014. And I wasn't just talking about the lineup. Sure, Verlander seems to have regressed a bit from his previous two years. But he is still damn good. And I wouldn't count on him regressing any further next year. He may look more like 2012. He's locked up. So is Scherzer. So is Sanchez. So is Fister (for what that's worth).

As far as age goes, Torii Hunter probably has father time knocking on his door. Victor Martinez as well. But Prince Fielder won't even be 30 on opening day next year. Austin Jackson is far from it. And while it's pretty likely that Cabrera won't be chasing a 2nd or 3rd triple crown in three years (you know, because that's absolutely unheard of), I seriously doubt that he's going to be anything less than great. The Tigers are also going to add a closer before the deadline, in all likelihood, which makes them an even more complete team.

We're talking about 2014. Not 2018.

I think the Tigers are the team to beat in the division until proven otherwise, but Cabrera and Fielder are exactly the type of players that fall off a cliff.

Yeah but Cabrera is exactly like nobody. A regression for him would be hitting .310 30 HRs and 110 RBIs.
