Hoch was great his last outing in the comeback win.

Baltimore also damn lucky on that last hit.

So Ned lets Collins stay in for the 8th, even though he's struggling, and he promptly issues a leadoff walk. Then, to prove just how well he understands his pitching staff, he brings in Hochevar, who freaks when there are runners on base. And Baltimore scored? Shocked I am, just shocked.

I still cannot fathom the depths of Ned's genius.

Things just haven't gone the Royals way this game. Umps missed a check swing that would have been a strikeout then the guy hits a two run double the next pitch, and the O's last run came on a double that landed on the foul line.

And to prove how well Ned knows the game, he pinch-hits for the guy who is 4 for his last 6 and hitting .389. Better to have the .198 hitter in there. Ned had it under control because you MUST make the push-button-manager decision and go with the lefty-righty matchup. Never mind the fact that Moose was hitting .197 against righties.

Ned, you rule! Way to be on top of the situation!

I'll say it again: the Royals will never make the playoffs with Yost in charge as manager.

By the tone and sentiment of the crowded message board of kusports.com, I am sensing the bandwagon for the Royals Coach is starting to get light.

The question then is, who to replace the coach with?

George Brett is a quick thought but probably not relevant as he wanted to own the team and not coach. Bud Black is another former Royal with head coaching experience but I think he is still employed. The trend lately is to hire the best former player who want to be a coach such as LA Dodgers going with a Yankee.

They need that Superbad Phallic dude to Moneyballize them..It wasnt Hoch's pitching error that screwed them last night. It was his pickoff to first error that did them in...but whatever.

This offense is offensive. Clearly, Seitzer was the problem.

If they don't wake up the bats soon, they won't make it out of May above .500.

Ironically, Moose is 2 for 2 so far (only two Royals' hits).

Makes you wonder why the Royals have a Hitting Coach and Assistant Hitting Coach.

Maybe because Jack Maloof never made it out of the minors and had to go to Japan to play.

Why did we hires these two guys again? Oh.... the Atlanta Brave Pipeline connection for Dayton. Why Dayton isn't social and capable of building a connection other than just Atlanta, I don't know.

Hopefully the Royals can get back on track tomorrow and into this weekend v. NYY.

To what someone said earlier: I can't wait until Francoeur is gone either.

The guy takes some of the worst ABs I remember seeing. He swings for the fences half the [censored] time and he doesn't even have that much power. Just get someone in RF who can hit decently for contact if nothing else.

I think the fans appreciate a player who gives back with buying pizza for the fans vs. a player who tries to bunt to get a single and doesn't buy pizza.

Give me Frenchy over the speed with no power. Frenchy could hit the ball one day and it go over the fence and win your a ball game that way. I have never seen a bunt that is not a suicide squeeze change the course of the game with 1 pitch.

How many pizzas do you suppose Francouer should buy for the fans in order for them to get their money's worth from him?

2013 salaries:
Francouer: $6,750,000
Dyson: $500,000

If he buys $6 million in pizza for the fans this season, are the two players roughly of equal value?

True, he does have that home run to his credit this season. Only 28 unproductive ABs (Ks) to get that one HR.

2013 strikeout rate:
Francouer: 1K/3.8 ABs
Dyson: 1K/6.0 ABs

2013 averages
Francouer: .234/.274/.336
Dyson: .250/.250/.458

too small of a sample size? OK...

2012 strikeout rate:
Francouer: 1K/4.7 ABs
Dyson: 1K/5.2 ABs

2012 averages
Francouer: .235/.287/.378
Dyson: .260/.328/.322

I simply don't believe Francouer's mild power threat is worth all the unproductive ABs. There is probably some fancy sabremetric way to compare his 16 HRs in 2012 to Dyson's stolen base total (which projected to 57 if given the same number of ABs Francouer had). Maybe runs/AB would be a rough proxy:

2012 runs/AB
Francouer: 0.10
Dyson: 0.18

I'm not saying Dyson is the long-term answer (nor am I saying I'm a huge fan of the sacrifice bunt). He's not. But the Royals absolutely must value outs more than they do. In a spacious ballpark, you have to be giving more of Francouer's ABs to Dyson. Pizza or no pizza.

Both clearly provide no edge looking back so other factors should be considered. Who has the better arm for defensive purposes? Frenchy is a clear winner.

Who could win a game for you with 1AB a month is something I think gives Frenchy an edge in addition to this being a contract year for him, I would expect his A game and effort the rest of the season.

If Frenchy has to take some player enhancement to explain a sudden rush, no one will care until next year when it's disclosed.

Would you go with a veteran or rookie? Most managers will go with a guy who may not be at his prime, but any given day could resemble a player he once was if only for a little while.

The only thing that matters is who performs better from now till the end of the year. If you compared Dyson and Frenchy just by what they do at the plate, in my opinion Frency will outperform Dyson by a statistical amount for clear judgement to be decided.

Dyson is the better answer on offense and on defense. Dyson is no brilliant fielder but he has so much speed he can get to most any ball. Frenchy has limited range, despite a pretty good arm.

Frenchy needs to be benched. He needs to get out of town. But that probably won't happen soon. They should have traded him after his one good year here.

You're right, Chris. But only when other players are hitting. Gordon can be great leading off, but if no one behind him is hitting, what good is it? I would love for Gordon to comtinue to lead off, but only when Butler starts getting some pitches to hit and a viable 4 hitter emerges.

You don't fix a wrong with another wrong....that's why you don't move him out of the leadoff spot.

I know the offense is struggling, I realize that. But switching around the lineup doesn't work. It hasn't worked the 10000000 times he's done it in the past either.

I hear you and for the most part I agree. But the offense has been bad this. Just plain bad. Something has to change. Personally, I think Dyson for Frenchy and Tejada for Getz would help, albeit marginally.

Ideally, with everyone hitting decently or better, I'd like:

Gordon LF
Cain CF
Butler DH
Hosmer 1B
Moustakas 3B
Perez C
Escobar SS
Dyson RF
Tejada 2B

What I see as Gordan being a lead off man is that if anyone at the bottom of the order can get on, then Gordan could hit a home run or drive in runs. That Grand Slam of his is good evidence for run production.

If the players at the bottom of the order get on, Gordon can knock them in? That's crazy, man. I don't think it works like that.

The point is to get better hitters in front of him who hit for average and run the bases well (or just fast). That's a pretty simple baseball principle.

The complication is Gordon ALWAYS doing better in the lead-off spot. I would love if Gordon starts spraying the ball around the park tonight hitting 3rd and changes that trend.

Gordon is on pace for 100+ RBIs and 20+ HRs. That stat line does not lead off, especially when the team is struggling to score.

Ned stated on 810 this morning that Gordan has told Ned that he prefers the #3 spot. Easy move to make is to hit Alex in the order that makes him most comfortable.
