Why not John Lamb. Pitch in Spring Training and everything is fine from 2011 surgery.

We know what Chen and Hoch cannot offer, let see what John has.

It should be Mendoza.

It'll unforunately probably be Hoch.

Lamb's velocity after surgery hasn't returned. Threw in the mid-80's in his 1st appearence in spring training...that won't get the job done.

It absolutely should be Mendoza. It will be Hoch barring injury where he can't go at all. Why? Because the Royals simply cannot admit they are wrong about a player. Performance numbers be damned.

I don't think Lamb is going to be throwing 100% on his first time out in a meaningless game in preseason, do you? I kinda think most pitchers take that approach and use Spring Training to build their arm strength and endurance up.

I see you disagree, tell me why. Why would you want Mendoza to be a 5th starter?????

It could also be viewed that Dayton Moore has invested a lot of money and has been over patient as well. I agree, numbers and statistics don't lie that he isn't getting the job done after several season and best see what he has to offer in the bullpen.

And they gave him even more money in the off season for zero reason which is why he will start....and proves my point. DM and KC don't know how to cut their losses on a player.

I think it is asking too much of a guy who has naver pitched above AA level to be able to bybass AAA coming off TJ.
Mendoza has performed well as a #5, and should be able to continue.

Early in Spring Training yet at this point the #5 SP is Bruce Chen as he has pitch 2 IP with 0 ERA and 0 WHIP.

Mendoza- 6 IP, 1 ERA, WHIP 1.17

Lamb- 2 IP, 1 ERA, WHIP 3

Hochevar- 1 IP, 2 ERA, WHIP 3.6

I was hoping for that outcome the whole summer. Any news on who won the 5th spot yet?

I honestly think Chen will be the 5th starter with Big Willy Style being the first called up for any sort of injury or cold streak for any of the rotation guys. They just absolutely need a lefty in the rotation, but don't be surprised if Ventura will get on to the 40-man and be really close to a spot in the next year or so..

No way Ventura is ready and the Royals are not going to waste service time when they just got some other pitchers.

Shields' contract is up next year. I am guessing the Royals will trade him away to a contender for a nice prospect package and then have Ventura in the SP lineup in 2015.

Mendoza pitching very well in Spring Training. Got to root for the under dog as he keep throwing strikes with ball movement and nothing flat in the zone.

Can he continue during the regular season?
