After last night and the accompaning meltdowns. I need to take a hoops break until Sat of course. What new release DVDs would my fellow posters suggest. I bought bluray Looper with a BBuy Gift card. Havent watched it yet...but I want to have a movie watching marathon on this rainy day. And dont say the 08 Final 4 DVD....seen it many many times already. I am thinking Flight and 7 Psychopaths as the other options...

Looper is awesome, I loved it, so did a couple of co workers for what its worth.

I was disappointed with Flight, I went to movies one night and seen Argo and was blown away. Then the next week I seen Flight and an expected a similar experience, and it wasnt.

Pitch Perfect is hilarious, rented that on Redbox a couple of weekends ago.

Ted is funny, if you like Family Guy, which I do. Its predictable but still funny.

Hatfields and Mccoys is on redbox now. It is pretty awesome too if you are into war/westerns.

Lawless is a very good movie also.

I have left out the crappy movies I have seen recently.

7 Physchpaths wasn't that good, I recommend Arbitrage if you enjoy a drama with good acting by Richard Gere.

I will have to disagree with Maximus. I thought 7 Psychopaths was pretty good.

Django Unchained was a great QT flick. And Killer Joe was awesome!

I am not too concerned with what Maxy think is a good movie or not. Hell he thinks Cameron is better than AFH...Will watch Looper tonight...after Florida crushes Kensucky tonight of course...

I liked Looper for the record. Kentsucky [sic] not playing up the the freshman hype once again. Running into a mature seasoned experience guarded team.

Just can't pull the trigger on this one. Every time I watch the preview I am about to buy it, then I see a 747 flying upside down and move on.

Some great ones coming out in March, Lincoln and Playbook Silver Linings are fantastic.

"Safety Not Guaranteed" is a small film that came out in 2012 and won an award at Cannes. Kinda quirky but unpredictable and entertaining. It's about a magazine journalist and his 2 interns going on a road trip to get the scoop of a want ad that asks for a partner to travel back in time with.

I know some think the movie sucked but they had blu ray version of Prometheus for 12.99 at B Buy and I had 30 bucks left on a gift card so I snagged it. The only serious flaw I saw in that movie(CGI effects are probably better than any other movie) is there was no real lead in, the "engineer " was shown dissolving and leaving its DNA in Earths water....the 2 scientests discover the similar paintings from different cultures showing the star system where the engineers originated...then boom they are on the way to the planet.

Its supposed to be a prequel to Alien and Aliens. Both of those movies were great mostly due to the built up anticipation. Prometheus was a bit of a letdown especially after all the hype it had. And of course there is a Prometheus 2 being filmed right now. I am surprised how cheap blu rays are now, Skyfall blu ray was just released and it was 19.99..and yes DC I know most individuals stream their movies.

It was alright ...just not what I thought.....just another movie about alcholism and drug abuse....Harlen got Whip "feeling alright"...It did show a strange truth about alcoholics...Some (and I say some) can perform better in action when half buzzed from the night before , like the way he saved that plane. Was it or was it not loosely based on a true story.

It sucked bigtime...DC comics to movies outside of the latest Batman trilogy all do....Marvel comics to movies are far superior. Ryan Reynolds, all I can think of is that crappy sitcom he was on 2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza...He is actually pretty funny.

What was that pic. maxy...couldnt see it. Might rent that Silverlining Playbook flick next...errrr I meant stream it..I admit I dont stream movies. Is Netflix/Hulu/Vudu cheaper than a 1.50 blu ray RedBox rental??? HD movies on demand are 6 bucks...Thats why I go to the Red Box and rent them with my fellow trailer park people...

If I wanted to watch a B movie, I'd just watch a porn video as the dialogue, script, and "action" is much better. wink

Django was easily the best movie of the year. Not released on DVD until next Tuesday

Ang Lee is a very overrated Director. Oscars were a pretty big farce this year. At least more so than usual, which is tough.

Well, it wasn't so much a twist as a gimmick. And I understand the point. I just thought it was a deus ex machina type of thing that rang hollow.

I thought it was weird, a lot of wonder throughout and the subject matter ends up being more morbid and less pg than you think. Which is weird considering the Disney like movie you just watched.

Edit: it was also really slow at parts

[Already there, but Life of Pi SPOILER ALERT]

I thought the supposed ambiguity was forced...cleverness for its own sake. I think it would have been a better story if, sort of like Contact, the wrenching conundrum was put on the viewer through Pi, not by him.

My recollection is that the book was more vague as to which story was real.

I thought the movie was good, not great.

Haven't seen django. Excited.

Killing them softly and killer joe are interesting. The latter is strange.

Both of James Gandolfini's scenes in Killing them Softly were odd to say the least.

I'm all for excess and love Tarantino and Django. But, Killer Joe just seemed so forced in the "excess."

Not a movie, but I'm enjoying Boardwalk Empire.

Entertaining and with a very broad scope: Atlantic City corruption, early days of prohibition, the creation of the mafia, , national scandals, pop-culture, the IRA.... Loosely based on some real characters, but with an acceptable amount of dramatic license.

Very good show to look at as well: architecture, cars, clothes, women, violence. And I've always thought Buscemi to be a very fun actor to watch.

I liked Blue Heaven. Note: Rick Moranis is now semi retired to be a stay at home dad.

Classic from 1935, Bride of Frankenstein, is worth seeing again. Boris Karloff as the doctor comes back to life! Film budget was around $400,000.

That's like 200 million in today's money. Most movies today suck. Saw the new Terminator. ..Antman. ..Fantastic 4. Only Antman was good. Sad state of affairs. I am slowly building my real home theater.

Recently bought a nice Vivitek projector that pumps out 3000 lumens. A 120 inch screen. ..picking up a Pioneer Elite SC 85 receiver(135 watts x 9) the first of September. No more movie going for this guy once completed.

The Monster Squad (1987)

  • Horace: Wolfman's got nards!
  • Patrick: You're not a virgin are you?

    Patrick's Sister: [shakes her head]

Patrick: No? What do you mean No?

Patrick's Sister: Well, Steve... but he doesn't count.

    Patrick: DOESN'T COUNT?
  • Sean: Rudy. Question.

    Rudy: Shoot.

    Sean: Know any virgins?

    Rudy: [spit take]
  • [holds a glinting sharp knife in the dim sunlight of his living room]

Scary German Guy: Boys, time is almost up.

    [after a moment pause]

Scary German Guy: For last chance of some pie.
  • Sean: Is she a virgin?

Patrick's Sister: Why don't you broadcast it on the 6 o' clock news?
  • Patrick: [going to approach Scary German Guy] So what's German for 'please don't murder us'?

Scary German Guy: [comes up behind them] Bitte uns nicht Mord zu tun.
