@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources tell me and @jonmorosi that #Royals may be at critical stage in decision on whether to trade Myers for an SP such as #Rays Shields.

Lots of talk about it....and I'm so horribly against this trade I pray I don't wake up tomorrow morning seeing this deal has been made.

Why? Not saying I agree or disagree just curious about your reasons.

You don't trade a top 3 prospect in all of baseball (especially a hitter) for nothing less than an ace.

James Shields is not an ace.

Franchise-crippling move if it happens.

Would certainly be a troubling move, and an indication that, fundamentally, Dayton still doesn't understand player valuation.

I'm as impatient as anyone, but there's virtually no way Moore could screw up the Royals contending in 2015 if he did absolutely nothing over the next two years.

This trade just might do it, though.

Good gawd almighty. Moore can't possibly be this stupid.

Can he?

This is purely speculation on my part, but I feel like Dayton has been told his job is on the line this upcoming season if the Royals under-perform again.

Thus, he might be forced into panic-trading Myers for Shields.

Doesn't make it right, but I'm just trying to possibly get inside the head of Moore as to why he would even consider making a move like this one.

Bad move yes, franchise crippling no.
A potential star should not be traded for a pitcher that has never been an ace, is probably descending in his career, and is on the back end of his contract.

Yeah, I don't think there's any question that Moore feels pressure to deliver...and soon. Don't think for a moment that the other 29 GMs don't recognize that. Moore's monomaniacal approach to this off-season ensures he will get fleeced...again.

I'm just so insanely tired of being viewed by the rest of the league as their AAAA team from which they are able to pluck, pilfer and pillage. I want a shrewd, savvy GM that gives me the feeling that, at worst, the Royals will break even on every key move. Right now I have this feeling of dread. I can almost see the other GMs talking amongst themselves, saying, "here, watch this," as if it's a game to see which one of them can take the greatest advantage of Moore.

I'm already on record here as to why I don't care for this deal (and that was before I realized Shields has thrown over 1300 innings in the past 6 seasons), but the astounding news that TB may be able to extract even more organizational talent from KC in this move simply sickens me.

I remain hopeful that this potential move is a smoke screen for something resembling an intelligent move, but am preparing myself to watch yet another KC prospect have champagne poured on him in a different uniform a few years from now.

disaster temporarily averted...

from Bob Dutton on Twitter:

@Royals_Report #Royals GM Dayton Moore has left Nashville; no trade likely (for now) with Tampa Bay. Both sides still interested. Talks will continue.

anyone know a good way of contacting Moore?

I wonder what is the 'intel' that Dayton knows that the fans do not to want to upload him. I hope it is just that other GM's value him too highly. Shields is an ace but his value is about to decline, slowly and expensively, so unless TB wants someone else, I'd say no.

Datyon shouldn't even explore trading Wil Myers unless its with Tampa Bay or Oakland and its a 2 SP for Wil Myers and a Mike Montgomery or Jeff Francoeur. Dayton better get a minor league player that can also reach the big leagues in this deal as a throw in to spice the deal up as he would be giving away 2 starting MLB players of today who play every day and not once a week.

Matt Moore-TB
Jeremy Hellickson-TB
Alex Cobb-TB
Chris Archer-TB

Jerrod Parker-Oak
A.J. Griffin-Oak
Daniel Straily-Oak
Tommy Milone-Oak

Jason Adams,Yordano Ventura, Kellen Moen, Matt Riding, Edwin Carl, and
Kyle Zimmer should be off the table. This is the Royals pipeline for a strategic success of good cheap young pitching for years down the line to be competitive. See the Braves and Royals of 2 decades past.

Troubling part of the Shields trade is that TB wants Myers PLUS additional prospects.

I'd do the same if I was on the other side of a target as easy as Dayton.
