Chris Peterson was lured to Boise State as an assistant. He paid his dues for a few years (5?)and then in his first year as head coach, he led Boise State to a 13-0 record and top 10 ranking. Where is KU's "Chris Peterson" going to come from? Can we please hire an Offensive Coordinator with a clue and possible potential to become a "Chris Peterson"?

Mangino was a great offensive coordinator under Stoops.

I'd be willing to see Mangino step back to the OC spot and we bring in someone new for the HC post. ahhh, one can dream.

So they say. He was as good of an O.C. as Ditka was a head coach. Give me all that offensive talent at Oklahoma and I might have done an ok job. Give me that Bears Defense and Buddy Ryan and I could have won the damn Super Bowl as the head coach of the Bears. It is easy to coach when you have talent. It is the guys with lesser talent who do well that prove to me they are/were great coaches.

Fair enough. But realize his team beat Oklahoma and Bob Stoops.

Boise State had a lot of popular support because everybody loves underdogs and backup quarterbacks. Plus, the Fiesta Bowl was one of the more enjoyable bowl games.

Of course the Sun Bowl and Texas Bowl were fun too for other reasons.

Lots of people on the basketball board would disagree, and if memory serves, you might be one of them.

Coach Mangino won the 2000 Broyles Award awarded to the nation's outstanding ass. coach - nominated and elected by coaches! Suggest anyone interested go to broylesaward.com for info on who some of the hot ass. coach prospects - probably headed for HC jobs though - like our own.

appy - Great point. I should rephrase that. It is easy to win as a coach when you have talent.

trucker - I admit my ignorance on that fact. I am not sure if it was the other coaches who may have been fooled or if I have been fooled in to thinking Mangino was over rated in the past as an O.C. and definitly is now as a H.C. I would have to say it must be me. I stand correceted.
