Is there a reason why thre is no mention of the Bonnie Holiday Basketball Camp which was held Monday 1/1/07 ANYWHERE on the site? KUATHLETICS.com has an article (3 small poorly written paragraphs and 10 photos), but it has an article. There sure was mention about the Men's Holiday clinic in an article with video and I am sure there was mention in a "notebook" somewhere to. Yeah there was not 500 particiapants but I would say there was a good 100-150 kids there. Bonnie even told me there was 40-50 walk-ups, which is not bad for seeing almost no advertisements for the clinic/camp except at the games themselves.

And why we are at it, why are there never any updates on the front page during Womens games? Yeah there are not blowing out Winston-Salem State by 60 points, but updates would be nice.

Brando - You are 100% correct for starting this thread. If you have not learned that KUSPorts.com is (for the most part) only good for the Message Boards by now - you may never learn. Thus the reason for my past desire to put in a bid for the "World Company" and turn it in to the Gutter World. I do think Ryan Green has the potential to help turn this site in to what it should and can become. It has potential but I hope it doesn't lose in the first round.

Let me get this straight....y'all are calling out the J-dub for not having an article on a basketball clinic that was held on new year's day by the women's basketball team? By my count, 6 KU sports have their own designated boards on KUSports.com, one is not a varsity sport (bowling). Women's bball ranks 4th of the 6 in terms of popularity (operationally defined for this purpose as number of threads). maybe it was because Dolph gave the staff the day off yesterday. maybe it was because 99% of the public doesn't buy the LJW or come to KUSports.com to read about KU Women's bball. maybe it's because this really wasn't a newsworthy event. who knows, but geez....it is apparent there aren't that many business savvy folks around these parts.

that said, i think the LJW and KUSports do an amazing job. go take a look at some other college town newspaper sites. you will crap yourself when you see how awful their newspapers (print and online versions) are.

My point is that the lack of coverage for Women's sports is pathetic. I know the popularity is not there for WBB like there is for mens sports or other women's sports. There was a LJW photographer there yesterday, so I know there was coverage.

DOn't worry so much my man. It was New Year's day, this sort of thing isn't incredibly time sensitive. I betcha you'll see a blurb on it tomorrow or by Wednesday. wonder who that photographer pissed off to get that assignment.

I think this site - forgetting the LJW - Is not that bad at all. It could use some obvious improvements. I Call it constructive criticism but IN THE PAST when I have pointed out numerous times some of the flaws - I get thank you responses and concerned responses but see no improvements or the problems corrected. A perfect example was when I called the phone number listed for Andy Samuelson and was told that was his number a year ago and it has been changed. I monitored the board to see if they changed his number after making it known and they didn't change it. Just one small example as well as clicking on a past schedule and not having the info available. One more thing is not having stats available from a game for sometimes at least 2 days after the game was played. I know these are little things to be bitching about but why not fix them?

It's unfortunate that some people can never be happy. Greene has made the Web site much better since he's been at kusports.com, which is what, four months now? Not even that...

Give the guy some time, and more importantly, a little respect.

i am just curious, what would you like to see more of? i actually think the LJW does a good job. could they do more? of course they could. yeah, the website isn't updated immediately after games or often for awhile, but i find the print version of the J-dub at least always contains schedules, records, small articles, and statistics. do you subscribe to the print version? i do, but i have often sensed that very few do that particip[ate on these boards. the LJW is a business, and they are about making money. it is a small town paper that cannot finance a slew of sports reporters. will there be a story on women's rowing everyday? of course not. i am pretty sure they have a keen sense of who their audience is, and i think they report as much as they can at the depth their paying subscribers want. again, take a look at other small college town newpapers (online versions). this place is like a veritable cornucopia of information compared to the ames paper, the iowa city paper, the manhattan paper, etc etc etc. the print version is very timely and informative. the LJW is not the sole disseminator of information for KU athletics, not even the primary. i would suggest trying www.kuathletics.com for more comprehensive information.

i am not trying to be a jerk, but i think supplying ryan greene and others specific, constructive feedback....i would assume they would be grateful. i think this place is a jackpot for the KU sports fan.

i just looked at the stories since the end of last season related to women's basketball....7 pages worth. yeah, there are many more on men's bball, but that comes with the territory around here. during the season there is is rarely more than a 2 day stretch that there isn't a story published online on women's bball. and in the print version, there is more on a daily basis. lots of volleyball stories. the other sports, the so-called olympic sports (cross country, track, swimming, rowing, tennis)...there's less coverage, but it's like that everywhere.

again, of course they could do more, but what specifically? i tried to look for an article on last year's clinic; i didn't see one, but admittedly i wasn't looking very thoroughly.

my point is when the WBB team is winning (like last year when they were on a 12 game win streak and beat Texas), there were LIVE game updates on the main page....now there is not...there is ALWAYS coverage for MBB on the front page. Coverage was there for the Men's Holiday basketball clinic...none for the women's.

Yes, I know that there can not be coverage for every sport out there. Even the UDK misses something once in a while but usually they even have some type of blurb the day after. When you have a major D1 sports program, you figure there should be some type of coverage.

Yeah, I know we are not a UConn, Tennesee, or Texas women's type program, but Bonnie was a major hire for KU Women's Basketball. There is good D1 talent on the team.

i cannot speak to live updates. sounds like they were riding the wave. who knows. maybe there was a shift in focus. i don't see a lack of content overall, so clearly the resources were redirected. is this right? i don't think it's wrong, again, it's a business. if kuathletics.com started doing that, maybe the gripe would be more legitimate. the print version has content daily.

this seems to be rooted in the fact that you went to the clinic yesterday and then today there was nothing. this is not a time sensitive matter, and as i said, i guarantee you that if the J-dub sent a reporter/photog there, it will make it's way into at least the print version of the paper this week.

i suggest again a smapling of college town newspapers from around the region and country, you will be shocked at how much the JW actually does.

No...it comes down to the fact that I have a daughter and I want her to see there is more than just male sports out there. Yes, I take her to MBB games, Football games, Baseball games....but I also take her to WBB games, soccer games (which at KU is a female only sport), softball games. And I am sure there are others out there who feel the same way.

And then there are comments like what you made earlier....wonder who that photographer pissed off to get that assignment that shows the ignorance out there towards female sports. Yeah there are people who do not care for WBB...that is fine. Have you ever been to a game? People actually stay until the end of the game as opposed to leaving with 5 minutes left.

Cheers to tubby and thanks for the thread brando. I have complained several times to the LJW about their lack of coverage of BonnieBall.

Progress has been made. Until last season, you had to wait till the next day to even get a BonnieBall score.

I also think football didn't get sufficient coverage until a couple of years ago.

Quality wise, this site--KUSports.com--is the crown jewel of the LJW. It has won multiple awards. The sportswriters are basically just cheerleaders for the men's bb program.

When Bonnie starts winning big in a couple of years, maybe they'll jump on the bandwagon. hawk61 is saving them a nice seat.

Yes, and let me make it clear I'm not dissing Ryan Greene. He does his best and I'm sure personally wants to see BonnieBall take off.

It's the management and the mentality. But a community newpspaper has the responsbility to not wait for the victories and increased home attendance before giving adequate coverage. It should be doing that NOW to help bring about the increased attendance, if only for curiosity of what BonnieBall is and what she's trying to accomplish. And BonnieBall needs a PERMANENT correspondent for more than a year or two.

It's gonna be a long year for BonnieBall. So young and in transition. But in a couple of years, we're gonna see a program rebuilt from the ground up in the face of NCAA loss of scholarships.

That's the big story now. Management should devote a few more column inches. Tubby made some good points about space being given to Coach Self's reaction to things that have nothing to do with KU basketball.

I don't think anyone was dissing Ryan Greene. Certainly not Brando. I reread his posts after the "disrespect" claim just to make sure, and I couldn't find it. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen Brando disrespectful towards anyone on this board.

Ryan, if you're still following this thread, this site is one of the best sports news sites I've ever seen, and thankfully it's focused on my Jayhawks. If it wasn't a great site, I wouldn't visit it every day.

The point Brando was making (and I second) is that there is a demand for WBB coverage, and he wants to make sure the LJW knows about it. Hopefully most people (Greene included) didn't feel like Brando's request was disrespectful or unreasonable.

I fully agree brando wasn't dissing anyone.

But the tone of the thread is a little harsh. And rightfully so. I just wanted it understood it ain't Greene's fault they don't devote enough column inches to the third biggest revenue producer in the KU Athletics Department.

They must be reading this site. Plenty about BonnieBall this week and Woodling had a good column about the problems with our lack of adequate post play.

You talking about the message board or the LJW?

This is a message board. Not a newspaper sports section. Nobody here is paid to cover KU women's bb.

ANYBODY is free to post all the stats and info they want. Bring it on, please.

I will make a personal effort to acquire stats if it will get more action going on this board. I've got one foot in the grave already according to my doctors, and once I'm given the go-ahead to return to work full-time I'll be spending 9am-8pm trying to hang onto that American Dream. I'd much prefer to simply link to the LJW for this kind of stuff. I think that's what this thread is all about.

You surely aren't bitching because the MESSAGE BOARD ain't doing the newspaper's job, are you?

2004....you and i seem to be among the minority that gets it.

i think they mean the online version of the LJW (KUSports.com) is not comprehensive. Overall KUSports.com is the jackpot for the KU fan, but as I have tried to explain (haven't been successful), the paper version of the paper has more on KU women's bball that does the online version. People here don't understand the difference between the LJW and www.kuathletics.com.

i have a question and then a suggestion:

q- how many people that use this board and KUSports.com are subscribers to the paper version of the LJW?

suggestion- go take a look at the online version of the manhattan mercury, the iowa city press citizen, and the online versions of other similarly sized college towns as lawrence. come back and let us know what you found/think.

Ryan and everyone - I expect nothing from this site other than to use it as an outlet to make an ass of myself. For that alone it deserves credit. What is unfortunate is that if I should want a little information it often is provided in an inconsistent way. I realize those involved are doing this for free or not much money. I appreciate your effort. It may be too time consuming to make everything "perfect" on here. I understand a little bit that it must be a bitch and a half to constantly update everything. It just is a little frustrating when you click on a topic and the information is not available. I like to look up schedules and rosters and the mens basketball roster had last years roster on here at least a couple of weeks in to THIS season. I know it is not the end of the world and I know many who are responsible do their best. At least I think they do. I would offer to help if I had the time and resources. Maybe in the future I will. I have said in the past that we all use this site for free. It would be nice if we the members had something to offer back besides money and our opinions. Such as time or effort to help if needed or wanted.
