I don't like Beltran's odds at all. Kemp is a wildcard; is he healthy? If so, the backspin he puts on the ball will be money.

And I daresay that KC baseball fans aren't the same thing as KC football fans, which ARE overwhelmingly white trash. Baseball is not a white trash sport, at least not in the midwest. If anything, KC baseball fans tend to be way too polite.

Is Cano's interview where he said he'd pick a KC guy some big secret? Many of the articles I read make no mention of it, they just talk about who Butler would replace and how there wasn't room for him.

It's really a huge oversight on the media's part and it's making KC look bad nationally, which I think is BS. Had he never said he'd pick a Royal, none of this would have happened. No one to blame but himself, yet NO ONE on the ESPN broadcast brings up this major point. East coast bias at it's best.

They all suck? Really. Moustakas has a legit claim to be an All-Star, Butler is one of the better hitters in the game and truth be told Escobar is probably the most deserving. He certainly is the most underrated. He is defensively superior to the actual AS starter Jeter in pretty much every way a SS can be measured and their numbers at the plate are nearly identical and Escobar does not hit in the Yankee lineup.

The only downside of the fans reaction will be found at 2pm on 810whb today. Kietzman will take all credit for getting the fans to react. He will then spend an hour talking about how much of a dump The K is and how much better it would be to have a ballpark downtown with another failed 810 Zone surrounding it. Finally, hours 3 and 4 will be spent talking about how much of a pvssy the Glass' are for not coming on his show.

I hate that fvcker more and more every day.

Rip David Glass, the Royals' GM's and managers, or baseball's skewed economics all you want. Ripping the KC fans is just dumb. Below is how many games back the Royals have been at the All-Star break. Ridiculous to expect 40,000 fans a game, don't ya think?

2012: 9.5 games back
2011: 10.5
2010: 10.5
2009: 11.5
2008: 11.5
2007: 15
2006: 27.5
2005: 27.5
2004: 16
2003: UP 7 games
2002: 15 games back
2001: 21
2000: 15
1999: 21
1998: 12.5
1997: 9
1996: 14.5
1995: 12

Some of us fell in love with the team and their players when they were good. For a ten year stretch from '76-'85, they were arguably the best team in all of baseball.

I consider the Royals a Kansas City team, not a Missouri team.

I don't want to come down too hard on you, but you don't know what the f*ck you are talking about.

Royals fans (and yes, I actually know them) are about as far from trashy as any fan base there is.

What's really funny about the whole thing is that if Robinson Cano, in all his glory, would have actually hit a home run, the booing would have subsided. The crowd fed on his absolutely pathetic performance. Hence, it was hilarious.

Rough Night for Robinson Cano
By TYLER KEPNER

Robinson Cano, who won last year’s Home Run Derby, went homerless in 10 swings Monday as fans booed him heavily. Cano was the captain of the A.L. team and did not pick Kansas City’s Billy Butler, despite having said that he hoped to take a Royal.

“You know fans,” Cano said. “This is for the fans and that’s what they want.”

Cano said the booing did not bother him. He said he had no excuses for failing to homer, but noted he landed in Kansas City at 4:30 a.m., after a night game in Boston. Cano explained that he had to make his selections — Jose Bautista, Prince Fielder and Mark Trumbo — before the team was revealed, and did not know Butler would be an All-Star. Fielder beat Bautista in the final round, and Trumbo smashed several long homers.

“You make decisions and sometimes you think it’s the right one, but it’s not,” Cano said. But he added, “We ended up with the trophy

Boorish KC fans; what would you expect from a franchise whose team plays in a shopping mall with a slight resemblance to a ballpark, set-down in a parking lot? What a bunch of hicks & hooples. They deserve their playoff drought.

MGK
CT

To call Kansas City fans classless would be a complement....they have not been to the playoffs for a long time and it does not look that they will ever return....deal with it!

Pure envy and jealousy!

What shopping mall? Isn't that a reference used against Rupp Arena? So more boos upcoming for Cano?

Actually it's Phillies fans...and there is no close third.

GQ names Phillies fans “The Worst Sports Fans in America”

It’s actually a tie between Phillies and Eagles fans as the worst — the subheading to their ranking being “the meanest fans in America” — but I imagine there’s substantial overlap. GQ:

All told, Philadelphia stadiums house the most monstrous collection of humanity outside of the federal penal system. “Some of these people would boo the crack in the Liberty Bell,” baseball legend Pete Rose once said. More likely, these savages would have thrown the battery that cracked it.

And yes, there is a reference to booing Santa Claus and the Michael Irvin thing and the intentional barfer and all of the stuff you’ve heard before.

http://www.gq.com/sports/lists/201104/worst-sports-fans-in-america#slide=14

Probably could lump all the east coast fans together and sprinkle them with Raiders fans and stop there.

Oh my gosh! Cano said he would CONSIDER adding a pathetic Royal to the competition, but then he didn't when he realized they all suck and none of them deserved to be there! Oh, the horror! Now lets all act like pathetic small market babies on national tv! Yeah, that'll show em'!

Way to go KC. Most trashiest fanbase in MLB. At least the stadium was full for once.

You know, this sounds just like a KSU fan. Just saying.

The more I think of the events of last night, the more pleased I become...

I see fire returning to the Royals fanbase, a fire I have not felt in 20 years. If the Royals can only start winning the least bit, this town is going to start burning with Royals fever again.

I'm also getting sick of the "class" crap. I'm becoming more disillusioned with the idea as I get older. People are now telling me that Frank White is classless. I grew up thinking Frank White was the very definition of class. I'm beginning to think it's a stupid concept to begin with, ill-fitted to a complex world. There's no such thing as class, I'm starting to think.

I think the Royals fans need to be more like Yankee fans. That being said, there isn't an ounce of "class" in that fanbase, and I refuse to hear a lecture from them on the subject. It's like a w hore giving an abstinence lecture. What a joke.

Pretty much. I can tolerate Yankees fans that grew up in New York and actually live there or have lived their for the majority of their life, but the rest of the fan base are some of the worst people on the planet. It never ceases to amaze me when I meet some douche who grew up in Texas and now lives in Seattle and he is somehow a Yankees fan.

Yeah, great example.

I mean, if you are going to be a Yankees fan, why not be a Lakers/Celtics fan, a rotating SEC Football fan, a UK/UNC/Duke basketball fan, a Manchester United/Chelsea/Barcelona/Real Madrid/Spain/Brazil/Germany fan, a Steelers/Patriots/Giants fan, etc, etc, etc

Not to turn it into a LeBron bashing thread, but he's a Cowboys fan too isn't he?

I guess that's what kids do. They're bandwagon fans. I was myself too w/ MJ and the Bulls. But then you grow up.

Sorry, forgot to add the Cowboys.

And I think there is a difference between being a MJ fan and being a Bulls fan. I loved MJ (who didn't), but I never considered myself a Bulls fan. I just respected the hell out of MJ's game and enjoyed watching the GOAT play.

Correct. MJ just happened to play for the Bulls.

It's much difference than the Olathe trash turning into Yankees fans b/c the Royals suck and they wanted to look like Fred Durst w/ a backwards red NY hat.

You folks have no idea about classless fans. Imagine for a moment that the HR Derby was held at CitiPark in NY and that no Met, ie David Wright was chosen for te Derby after it was promised it would happen. What do you think the result would have been? Boos would be considered mild. God help us if it was in Philly without a Phillie chosen. At least KC fans showed they give a damn. Now if they would only boycott the "K" until Glass sells the team.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The booing of beleaguered Home Run Derby captain Robinson Cano finally had faded by Tuesday afternoon. But the aftermath could cause Major League Baseball to consider a new rule to include at least one hometown slugger in future Home Run Derbies, commissioner Bud Selig said Tuesday.

The booing of Cano was inspired by his failure to pick Kansas City All-Star Billy Butler for the Derby after pledging earlier this month to include a Royal. Last year's National League captain, Prince Fielder, received similar treatment in Phoenix for not picking Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton.

So Selig conceded those displays of "hometown loyalty" could spark changes to head off similar outbursts in future Derbies.

"We'll talk about this (potential rule change)," Selig said during his annual session with the Baseball Writers Association of America. "While I understand (the feelings of fans in) Kansas City ... I felt very badly last night. I felt badly last year for Prince. This was tough."

When another questioner observed the heat -- and boos -- could even intensify next year with the game scheduled for Citi Field in New York, Selig again lamented Monday's episode.

"It won't be any worse than last night," he said. "You can only boo so loud. ... But let me just say, we'll think about that."

What a disaster of an all star break for KC. The game was horrible, and the low class Royals fans embarrassed themselves big time on national tv showing the country how massive their inferiority complex is. They threw the biggest hissy fit of all time because their fat slob of an all star (who never would have been one anyway if all teams weren't required to have one) didn't get invited into the derby.

They are now waking up this morning to the realization that baseball in KC is now back to irrelevancy for the next 40 or 50 years or whenever the next all star game comes back, and they'll be stuck at home in October year in year out rooting for whoever the Yanks are playing. BOOOOOOOO!!!!

This article just shows how far up the Yankees' ass ESPN is. It's a non sequitor. He got booed for a low class move on his part. Thank God no one threw batteries at him from the upper deck....

Why can't fans boo? Are fans just supposed to take whatever is given to them without complaint? Eat [censored] and call it caviar?

Cano brought ALL of this upon himself by pulling a d!ck move when he said PUBLICLY that he would select a local player, then backed out of it, THEN lied about it. You get booed for doing something like that. It's not about being a Yankee, it's about life. Hell, if he had more than Kauffman-Stadium-Warning-Track-Power-That-Gets-Out-Of-Yankee-Stadium and actually hit a home run or two, the booing would have subsided and ESPN would have had to find something else to write 30 garbage articles about.

You know, it's difficult enough being a Royals fan, and that's without assholes like you telling us how we should or shouldn't feel and act. We care about baseball here, even thoughout all the losing. Cano will get over the booing. Will you?

I'm sorry if it pissed off the millions of pretend Yankee fans out there, many of whom have never stepped foot in New York. Fred Durst was known for wearing a red Yankees hat...what a douche. You're right on his level. Congrats.

Cano's excuse that he didn't know Billy would be on the team is BS. He said on national TV that he called Pujols to talk him into hitting in the HR Derby, He also said Pujols is the one that told him to look at Trumbo. OK, so he tries to get Pujols to show up just for the Derby, but doesn't take hometown Billy because he might not be on the team? He's got too many stories to try to keep straight. He deserved what he got Monday night, and deserves it every time his lying torso comes out of the visitor's dugout in KC from now on.
