Completely agree. He is quite strong. Solid rebounder and runs the floor well.

My first post says as much. His muscle alone will get him on the court. His shot and play are a bonus after that.

yeah, i think we are in the minority though...

I am pretty sure we'll be playing with Peters on the court quite a bit next year.

I see a lot of love for a lot of incoming guys. Maybe it's all accurate, but who else among the upperclassmen, red-shirt freshmen (Traylor and McLemore), and White and Ellis, are going to sit then? At most, Self will give meaningful minutes to eight or nine players.

So, if Lucas, Peters, and Adams are going to be on that list, they have to replace at least two of these: Withey; Young, Ellis, Traylor, White, Releford, McLemore, Johnson, and Tharpe. That's the problem. Put one in, gotta take one out. We're not playing ten or eleven guys next year. At least two guys gotta sit a lot.

Quote:

FWIW I think Withey comes back. I also think he has the potential to be the best post player we have had on both sides of the ball since I can remember.

I love Withey, but I'm not sure that I would agree with the "both sides of the ball" comment. Lafrentz, Gooden, Collison, and Simien all averaged near or more-than 20 ppg at least one year in their careers, going back only 14 years. I could be wrong, but I don't expect 20 ppg from Withey next year.

Withey won't be a huge scorer, but we won't need him to be with everyone we return and bring in.

Withey will start stroking the 3 ball, we need a stretch 5!

I don't think it's that the kid can't play, I think it's because there are so many bodies up front next year that someone has to be left out. Withey and Ellis are givens. Young was impressive as the year went on so I'd call him the backup big for now. For Self's ideal rotation, that leaves one big. Traylor, Lucas, or Peters. Again, not that he can't contribute, it's just that there's so many others who also can.

I wouldn't be surprised if the rotation didn't include Young. Self does not like playing defensive liabilities and he was one all year.

A grade is not a ranking.

Does it really matter? Scout and Rivals "rankings" havent exactly been hitting on the majority of players the last few years either.

I agree with TraditionKU and others about Peters. He will see back up minutes unless HCBS wants him to red shirt. I also think we need Withey more than any other single player. His shot blocking will win us games that no one else can. At this early point in time I think if he gets hurt our best back up (based solely on recruiting videos) is Lucas. He's big enough and plays bigger than he is. I really like the attitude he shows when shot blocking. I think he enjoys it like "not this time kid".

I see the starting line like this:

pg: EJ
sg: Ben McLemore
sf: Travis Releford
pf: Perry Ellis
c: Jeff Withey

subs:
pg: Naadir Tharpe
sg:Andrew White
bigs: Jamari Taylor, Landen Lucas, Zach Peters.

Bit of a toss up on the bigs. Lots of talent to pull from. I agree that Peters will probably see some action, or HCBS might ask him to redshirt. I also agree that BS wont go more than 9 deep, if that, so lots of competition with the bigs.

What? No Kevin Young or Justin Wesley listed?
Nope. They were fill-ins for last year. With the large number of guys coming in at the same positions with more talent and more body mass, we wont see these two play. Heck BS didn't want to see them play this year, but he was low on options.

Christian Garrett, Niko Roberts and Merv Lindsay wont ever leave the bench unless we're up by 20. Actually, one of them will probably leave as we don't have room on the 15 man roster, unless we have a big redshirt.
