Planning the final parts of my trip to a KU game on the 24th of feb. against iowa st. to celebrate my 21st bday and I'm looking for advice on the best/closest/most convenient hotel in relation to the Fieldhouse (and of course to the bars after the game---any help is appreciated

Thanks

I went and saw the same game last year.I stayed at the Holiday Inn right off the turnpike.I thought it was a pretty cool place and the bar inside of it had tons of KU things.Though if we lose in OT and you stay there..its a omen

that Holiday Inn is an absolute sh*tbox. Had some people in town from work, they ended up getting stuck there. When people are dying to stay in a Hampton Inn, you know the place they are stuck sucks. I would stay at either the Hampton (great free breakfast, relatively new, clean) or the Spring Hill Suites, you know, the structure formerly known as the Riverfront Mall. Anything on North Iowa street or near it (aside from the Hampton) is crap.

Have had good luck with the Quality Inn. No indoor pool or anything fancy, dated exterior, but friendly staff, clean, nice rooms.

The Holiday Inn Express is usually pretty nice but it's in North Lawrence. The Spring Hill Suites is very nice with a great complimentary breakfast but it is a bit pricey. It is very close to town, eats and bars. The Super 8 is nice and clean with a small complimentary breakfast. Good luck and enjoy Lawrence.

Go whole hog, including the postage at the Eldridge. You're right in the middle of 'everything' Jayhawk.

The Holiday Inn Express is in south Lawrence, not north . We have stayed there several times and it is nice and clean. Not the closet to campus, but not hard to get back and forth. Stay away from the Baymont!!!! Bad experience there.

I stayed at the Baymont in Columbia MO. I didn't tell anyone I was from Kansas so I was treated well.

Eldridge or Spring Hill. Have had family stay at both places when visting town, and never a problem. Not the cheapest, but they're both located on the north end of downtown, and close to some great watering holes.

My favorite hotel was GSP and Corbin then it switched to Pi Phi House, Gamma Phi and Kappa. Good luck and have some fun.

And then Denver woke up and it was all a dream.

Now, normally I'd suggest the Jayhawk Motel, strictly for the amenities like color TV and vibrating beds.

But since you're turning 21, you should stay at the Eldridge. Downtown on Mass, historic. Pony up the bucks for a suite.

I'd definitely recommend the Eldridge or Spring Hill, like others have suggested. You'll be within walking (stumbling?) distance of a lot of bars. There's really nothing close to AFH, unless you shack up with someone at Oliver or Naismith halls. And even then, you wouldn't be close to the bars. So, for the sake of keeping your drunk @ss safe, stay downtown. Have a happy birthday.

yeah, go with the eldridge. it's a bit more pricey, but worth it if you're trying to make this a special trip.
it's at 7th and mass, next to all the bars, shops, restaurants. it's the closest to AFH. it's got 150+ years of jayhawks history wrapped up in it. it has a bar and nice restaurant. they're full service too. if you want random stuff, like a richie rich comic book from 1967 or a specific type of hair gel at 3am, the front desk will get it for you and bring it to your room.

You should stay here but getting to the game would be a hike.

The front desk might also kick you out if you come stumbling in the front door at 3 am having shitted and puked yourself on your 21st b-day.

The Holiday Inn is no longer a good place to stay, I would suggest you try to get in the Springhill Suites , you can make reservations on the Marriott website

Free State Brewery is a must, and within stumbling distance of the Spring Hill Suites.

Not sure if it has been stated in this thread, but your hotel is also attached to Lawrences largest bar.

Correct you are. Abe & Jakes is right there. Watch out for flying beer bottles though.

Of course that's better than flying shrapnel at the Last Call.
