Oh great, the best quote out of that whole article is this. "But I also know that if I come back, my role will change a bit. Would I like to play every day? Yes. Would I like to help Billy Butler and Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen and David DeJesus and Johnny Buck get to that next level? Yes."

Please, Mike you have never even reached that level. How are you going to help out these guys? Sure you were once an all-star player, oh wait, the MLB requires every team to have a representative. Great guy off the field, as are all the royals, except for Emil Brown who shoots reporters in the eye with pellet guns (sarcasm). But seriously, it's time for Sweeney to go.

Tell Mike he and his 11,000,000 dollars a year while I sit on the D.L. ass is probably not going to be welcome ANYWHERE next year. He's not a bad guy so I wish him well. Good Luck Mike.

I'm not a huge Sweeney fan, in fact I hope he retires, his body obviously can't hold up. But, to say that he has never reached a level above Gordon, Teahen, Buck, DeJesus is an understatement.
Point out which player on the Royals roster has a resume that would put him at the same level Mike Sweeney has reached.

Mike Sweeney is in the top 5 of most Royals offensive catagories. He will be in the Royals HOF.

He actually had 5 All-Star appreances, and it wouldnt bother me if we pay him $500,000 to be a role model and to keep a veteran presence in the clubhouse...imo

Okay, I could go with that..nobody said he had to come back and play, so let's make him a coach. Uh oh, does anybody see manager of the 2008 KC Royals written all over him? He takes a significant paycut, stays in KC(as he wished) and he's leading the team to that next level. Perfect!

He'd have to stay healthy for that to happen and his past record makes that seem impossible.

I'd rather appoint George player manager and reactivate him than have Sweeney on this team in any capacity.

While I am not much of a Mike Sweeney fan, I don't understand the hatred some have to him. He was the first big-money player who wanted to, and did, stay in Kansas City. Too bad he's been hurt ever since. But when healthy, he was one of the best hitters in baseball.
