If A-Rod stays healthy, he'll get 800 without any problem.

A World Series ring, however ...

It is a sad day. Somewhere, Hank Aaron is fishing and not giving a damn. And that's awesome.

Yes, this is a sad day in baseball, a GREAT player has just tied an enormous record and most fans either hate him or don't care. That's the worst part about this whole situation.

Great players don't have dark clouds hanging over every record they approach.

Who has put that dark cloud over his head though? We are a nation of the media, as in, we love to believe a lot of what we read and see. Everybody thought Mark McGwire was a great player, only because the media wasn't putting that dark cloud over his head, although he transformed into Lou Ferrigno. But you're right, Bonds' is not a great player, he is one of the best ever.

Amen to that brother, half of these jokers that are putting him down on this board wouldnt say squat if Barry was a KU alum or played for the Royals. No matter what 755 HRs and above is quite an accomplishment. I am also positive a good part of the home runs he has came before his so called steroid use.

Those who think this moment is sad need only to look at baseball and it's commissioner for the blame. Barry Bonds may be one of, if not the, greatest hitter of all time. He's a jerk, too. But so was Ty Cobb and so many others who are now legends.

Baseball needed something to win the fans back after cancelling the world series in the 1990s. Along came McGwire and Sosa and the home run race. Baseball turned a blind eye to steroids because they knew these two juiced players were bringing the fans back.

Did Barry take steroids? Probably. When he was taking steroids, were they illegal, by baseball standards? No. Did baseball benefit from having him around, warts and all? Yes.

I hate this high-and-mighty act the commissioner is displaying. If there's a reason to ban Bonds or suspend him, than do it. If not, shut up and let him play. Baseball reaps what it sows.

I personally don't like the guy. I've written before about how the current White Sox announcer, Ed Farmer, was a teammates of Bonds' several years ago. Farmer was passing a jersey around the clubhouse to donate to charity and Bonds refused, saying "I don't sign for white guys." Farmer went to a teammate, who was African American, and asked him to get Bonds' autographed. Bonds signed it.

He's going to have the record for a long time. And he will always be a jerk. And I will pull for A-Rod to break the record sometime in the next decade.

But it's Barry's record now.

Hmm..a one sided story? Interesting, but sounds like there is something else there to be heard. I was in San Francisco last year and saw Barry walking downtown and went up to him. Asked him for a signature and he was very polite/nice cordial guy. Signed my shirt with no problems, by the way, I am a white guy.
