I'd be interested to know if that was the plan, or such horrible defense that James had no choice but to pass to the wide open Chalmers.

If it was by design, great play drawn up by Spoelstra.

He was probably a plan B on the play. I'm sure Wade was supposed to get the ball at the top of the key

Actually I don't know that and I admit I don't know much. What I do know is that Mario hit a spectacular shot to tie up the National Championship game. For that I will always give him his due. I know without the other guys who played in that game but especially Shady, DJax, Brandon, and Sherron, that shot means nothing. I know that seemingly 95% of the people who watched that game (who are not KU fans) have no recollection that Shady was the best player on the floor that night. I know that if Brandon missed instead of made the free throw at 19:04 of the first half (and everything else happened exactly the same in the game) Mario Chalmers' 3 point shot would have meant nothing.

Back to last night. Mario's misses were not THE reason why the Heat lost. They did contribute to the reason. Just as every other player's misses helped contribute to the loss.

I get that this is a KU Sports message board and people are going to get excited about things future, current, and former KU players do. I often get excited as well. Mario hit a three last night. I guess I should have just posted Horray for Mario or nothing at all. Instead I choose to point out he made a nice "Bam" after failing to hit a "Bam" on his first 5 attempts. Sorry about that! Carry on with the Mario "Bam" love.

Gutter, basketball is linear. With every second there are fewer opportunities to make change to the game at hand. Even if Mario had hit three three pointers at an earlier time, there are still chances, and strategies to deploy, that would change the scoring. More time left, the more chances. If Mario had hit his first three in the game, there may have been a time out, Dirk may have decided that moment then to start taking over, Barrea could have gotten fired up; they had plenty of time to make a difference.

At the end of the game, those opportunities are gone. You don't get a second chance, third chance, x amount of chances. It was a 3 point game and there was less than 30 seconds left. This is what is considered clutch, because it is one of the last, if not the last play that can determine an outcome.

It's like talking to an 8 year old.

Ah....i was looking lower right corner of the whole picture

Also, +1 pwhitt....and I am guessing Gutter agrees too, as we just had this exact same conversation 2 weeks ago regarding Rose's missed free throw at the end of the Championship game (and at the end of the Bulls/Heat series) and Mario's 3 , to which he agreed. Just being a d!ck on purpose right now.

I sincerely thank you for taking the time to explain the intricacies of a basketball game and your points are all excellent. I do understand the difference between hitting a clutch shot and any other shot during a game -just as I understand that 3 points are 3 points no matter when they occur in a game. Mario hit a great shot last night. I am not taking anything away from the magnitude of it. I simply stated he missed 5 "Bams" before he made that one. I should have just said he missed 5 of 5 three pointers before he made the "clutch" "Bam"!

you understand 3 points are 3 points, but the problem is implying they are all equally important at any point in a game. Assuming that if he had made 2 of those earlier shots, that the last one he made wouldn't be necessary is not even close to a forgone conclusion. And you clearly do not "understand the difference between hitting a clutch shot and any other shot during a game " as you stated above based on your posts just a few minutes ago....

I am implying that every made 3 point or missed 3 point shot is equally important in determining the final score of the game. You and everyone else are free to disagree and say I'm wrong. I don't believe I was attempting to imply otherwise. If I was, I didn't mean to.

Actually the first missed three was more like a: "alright"; the second a "here we go!"; the third a "nice"; the fourth a "[censored] yeah"; the fifth a "CHALMERS!". The one he made was a "Bam!", and would have been "BAM!1!!" had it given the heat the lead.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

I'm glad you get that. Some people mostly focus on the positive things done by their family, friends, co-wrokers team's players, etc ... (except for the really nasty ones). Some other people mostly complain about any negatives or deficiencies they can identify with most of the people they discuss. Some people are somewhere in the middle. You're not in the middle.

Marine - With all due respect, I respond by saying gulity as charged - ON HERE. You and everyone else on here know/s that people choose to focus on what they feel I say is negative. You quoted me but left out the "I often get excited as well". May I ask why? I have shared in the joy and the misery of being a KU basketball fan.

I have stated the following things many times but for your sake in case you missed them.... The fact that I am overly critical to most people's liking on here is not lost on me. I will often take the unpopular side of an arguement or disagree with a post if I feel it's valid to do as such. I respect myself more for stating something and sticking up for myself if I disagree with what someone posts than I do with conforming to something I don't believe in or with.

Stupid analogy but realize I'm the guy who if someone says to me how great it is to own a nice sports car I would probably respond by saying yes it is BUT...... It sucks to have to pay $4.25 for a gallon of gas in this city, pay $2,000 a year for insurance, pay $350 a month to park my car, pay $3,000 a year for maintenence on my car, and over $500 a year for city and state registration. Sure that may make me a Debbie Downer but I feel it's pointing out something/s that people may forget about and that things are not as great as they seem. THAT'S who I am ON HERE.
OFF of here I can assure you that I have a much more positive outlook on most things and appreciate all the good around me.

Now back to Bam!

Marine - You have every right to be critical and no need to apologize. I am no doubt often an ass on here. I am also guilty of being the attention [censored] I have been accused of being. I'm usually just trying to liven up things a bit. This is NOT my board or my site and I shouldn't act like it is. When people such as yourself call me out in a respectful manner I am more than happy to accept your (or their) words and even offer an apology if necessary.

Oobers - You pretty much got it by saying Marine pretty much got it. I LOVE Noah!

P.S. Those who have attended Bulls games with me will attest to my ALWAYS rooting for KU players to do well against the Bulls.

Again, please back to BAM!

As Astro the dog would say, ruh roh. One of Mario's game winners shouldn't have counted. Wonder if Cuban is going to protest the game. Sure he would be a tool to do as such but that 3 that shouldn't have been allowed just may cost the Mavs a championship.

Wilbon and other announcers claimed that on further review it indeed looked to be legal. Do you have a source or cite that would back up Astro dog's interpretation?

Also, complaining about non-calls is kind of weak. Calls did not help the Heat win game 3.

Watching that replay, it sure looks legal according to the rules.

Sasha - Don't kill the messenger! Just repeating what has been said. Not complaining at all. Agree that refs did not win the game for the Heat but that no-call MIGHT have been the difference in the final outcome if it was a violation. Looks like the back of his foot MAY be on the mid court line when he receives the pass. Freeze it. If so, violation. If not, all is well.

I think the rule states (you can look at the link) that if he lept off the ball of his right foot (frontcourt) and the ball never crosses the halfcourt line, even if his left foot is in the air over the halfcourt line it would still be a legal play. You can double check the rules.

I do agree, however, that if ONE of his FOUR game winning shots did not count or did not go in, the mavs MAY have won the game.

edit: another look, slow motion, freeze at 33 sec. Looks like his toe is last to leave ground and he receives ball in frontcourt.

Miracle Mario with another BAM! I'm calling that BAM the game winner right now. You'll see. Heat win this one by 1 or 2.
