Almost no chatter on this board at all this fall. Is anyone going to take the day off and go watch the Big XII Championship? I am planning on driving out for it. We are supposed to get some snow, so that might make it interesting. Wish me luck.

Note that Oklahoma State is missing two of their top five, who, had they run at their normal levels, would have put them ahead of KU. If they are healthy and simply were heald out of Pre-Nats for resting or minor aches and pains, they'll be tough to beat for second (assuming CU has 1st sewn up). The race for second still looks to be between KU, OSU, and UT. UT is the wild card, as they looked like a contender for the title on paper in the pre-season and certainly have the talent, but have not impressed on the course. Their only test, however, was last month in Oregon (where they cratered). Otherwise, they've gone the Wisconsin route and basically run half their team in various low-key meets that are essentially time trials.
None of the other teams that did not attend Pre-Nats (TTU, NU, KSU, OU) are likely to threaten for a top-5 spot.
Quote: You are right. Colorado will get all 7 in top 25. I have to think that having it at home would help KU a lot, but the Buffs are in the Rockies and with elevation.
Home course at Rim Rock will only help against teams who tend to go out very fast and underestimate the effects of the later hills. CU is not one of those teams. You'll see the majority of their squad mid-back of the pack for the first 800m.
I'd also argue that altitude has (almost) nothing to do with CU's success. Take a look at the high school accomplishments of the Buffs versus anyone else in the league. Only UT really comes close to the amount of elite high school talent that CU has on their squad. Of current Jayhawks, only Colby and maybe Benson, Heff, or frosh Imgrund likely would have been recruited heavily by CU. All of CU's top-7 were national recruits. It's like comparing the the talent on KU's basketball team with Iowa State's.
