I'm actually thinking of getting DirectTV. I live in New York--so there is some wind--and some rain and snow. But it's 10 dollars cheaper a month, I get more channels and the internet ( that comes packaged ) is 3 times faster.

Is the threat of outages due to weather worth the channels, money saved and porn downloaded?

i've got dish network and love it. it has only gone out a couple of times when it is real windy. since i live in a tornado area that is probably not the greatest thing. but i don't care. i'm willing to risk my and my family's life for the wonder that is satellite tv.

What is the internet speed for DirectTV, etc? I'd probably switch but I rely heavily on the 'net for work and can't stand slow service.

1.5 to 3 Mbps. As opposed to 768 kbps...which honestly is not what cable is giving me at certain times of the day. I have done a number of tests and sometimes the speed gets down to 100 k a sec. It's miserable.

Oh man, these guys.
So all this cheap stuff comes with a 2 year lock down...activation free, first 12 mos 15 dollars off but then you gotta pay full price. You end up paying more actually, for 2 years, albeit a very minimal difference ( 120 dollars ).

So is having ESPNU (4 KU games on ESPNU this year) and 3 times the internet speeds worth losing 120 dollars, these 3 channels ( FX, AMC, Bravo ) and the threat of snow and wind cutting out the signal?

I've got Satellite Questions! I need answers guys!

I had Dish for 9 years and really never had outage problems.

Might lose signal for a couple minutes if rain is between me & satellite,
but that's it.

You can connect an outdoor antenna to the Direct TV receiver, and get
your locals in HD rain or shine. This served as a suitable backup for outages.

Cable now, switching to DirecTV soon.

Thank you for those who answered my questions.
I went with the Satellite. I'm getting it installed Saturday. Now, can someone get me the coordinates to the KU/OKSt game? Or is it rain delayed?

There's a guy in another thread that is looking for that Selbyvision thing. Can you be a munchkin and help him out?
