After retirement when Roy invited Norm to speak to the AFH crowd. Norm sat in a rocking chair at half court. "You (the AFH crowd) always told me to sit down. So, I'm going to sit down." Norm then sat behind the KU bench and cheered on, as KU beat Texas. What a surreal moment because the rest of the time, Norm was a devil! He knew how to make every Jayhawk mad!

I remember a few years back after the game in which KU just
kicked some butt, after the game when approached by Norm at
the hand shake ole Roy sez "Norm, you have a hell of a team"
which Norm responded "WANNA TRADE" though that was
pretty classic

I think it was Roys first year and Mizzou kicked our ass in Lawrence.

BuTT shortly afterward Norm was diagnosed with colon cancer.

Yeah, Fukc Norm. The day Roy let that son of a [censored] into AFH should have gotten him fired on the spot. Norm is a douche and Roy is a pussy. A perfect match.

The old "Sit Down Norm" chant was pretty awesome. I recall Norm standing on his chair, and motioning as though he was leading the cheers like a conductor.
He was tough. He was hard-nosed and competitive. He hated KU and KU hated him.
Right or wrong, Norm WAS Mizzou. Then, along came Quinn.....

I liked how hard his teams played, even though I hated him during that time. He was a great coach, and he has been pretty funny since he retired.

It still makes me laugh, and makes me very thankful, that Mizzou could have had Self after Norm left, and instead chose Quinn. Wow, how different things would have been.

The first time I heard "Sit down Norm" was in the early 70's during the Big 8 preseason holiday tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Our parents dropped us off and we watched basketball all day and sometimes played games by moving around the auditorium. It was a different era back then.

We found our way not too far from the Missouri bench during a game. Norm was pacing up and down the sidelines. I heard the chant "Sit down Norm" and he refused to comply.

One time Norm was on the radio and they asked him about KU, who had only lost to only Missouri at that point in the season.

Kansas was in the discussion for national champions.

Norm said," I hope Kansas does well in the tournament . I hope they win it all. Then they will be 39-1." (implying that Mizzou would spoil Kansas' chance for a perfect season) Typical Norm Stewart humor.

He came back for the rocking chair at Allen Fieldhouse
It took him a second to get the Kansas fans to say "Sit down Norm!", before he sat down in his rocking chair.

Norm Finally Sits Down

Even though he was hated by the Jayhawk nation, such as when he yelled at KU players during the game. I think there was a level of respect also.

Yeah, we treated him better than the Mizzery poo-bahs treated him.

The best thing about Norm is how his treatment proved what we all say about that miserable university.
