LAWRENCE, Kan. -

Kansas State defeated the University of Kansas, 59-55, Saturday at Allen Fieldhouse to end a 31-game losing streak to the Jayhawks. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for KU and drops its record to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play.

Kansas looked in control of the game in the first half and early in the second. The Jayhawks took a 26-18 lead at the half helped by a 12-0 run midway through the stanza that gave KU a 12-point edge.

Sophomore Sasha Kaun's dunk gave the Jayhawks a 12-point lead with 17:05 left in the game. After the flush, Kansas State started to chip away at KU's lead. The Wildcats used a 10-2 run to pull within a point of KU with less than six minutes to play.

A layup by Cartier Martin and a jumper by Clent Stewart gave KSU a 50-47 lead with 4:16 remaining. Sophomore Russell Robinson tied the game at 50 with a 3-pointer on KU's next possession. Stewart responded with two free throws and Martin put in a jumper to give KSU a four-point lead, its largest of the game.

A runner by freshman Brandon Rush pulled the Jayhawks to within three points with 55 second left. With nine seconds remaining, Akeem Wright knocked down the second of his two free throws, giving KSU a 59-55 victory and its first against KU since 1994.

The Wildcats only committed four turnovers in the second half after 15 in the first. KSU shot 57.1 percent in the second half to KU's 25.9.

Freshman Mario Chalmers poured in a career-high 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting and added four assists and four steals. Rush notched 12 points and Robinson 11. Kaun came off the bench to score eight points and pull down nine boards.

Unfortunately, yes I was. I sat alone in the rafters in disbelief as the small contingent of Staters had a little pep rally down below.

Ha! LOL. Yes, that neckbrace! Whatever happened to Jim Woolbridge?
and, doesn't that seem longer than just four years ago that he was the K-State coach. K-State's basketball program has come a long way.

Thanks, Mr. Geezer, for the update. Ending the losing streak at AFH did not prevent his losing his job at the end of the season. He stepped out of the locker room after K-State's Big XII Tournament loss, and immediately got canned. Without losing coaches at K-State, and Hubby coming to Manhattan, K-State might still be in the cellar.

Yup, sitting in student section. Worst was when the State fans started doing there, "K......S......U....Wildcats" over and over again after they lost.

Make matters worst my cousin and his wife came over to my apartment for dinner that night and of course they both graduated from, you guessed K-State.

I too was there. The thing I remember about that game was that ksu when into a zone with about 15:00 left and we didn't know what to do. We shot 26% and scored like 18 points the rest of the game.

Guess Jim Woolrige was a good coach after all.
And, there's a darn zone again beating us.

Wooly actually wasn't that bad a coach of the game, he just couldn't get players that could shoot.

Oh yeah, I was there. First time I brought my wife to Lawrence for a visit. Got GA tickets and sat in the student section so she could get the experience. She is not allowed back in AFH for a game.

That's exactly what happened. They went zone and our guards didn't have a clue what to do for the rest of the game. It was sad, but they were freshmen.

I was there on the front row of the student section, closest to the KSU bench, and I specifically remember Cartier Martin taunting my friends and I as he left the court. I won't repeat the things he yelled at us while pulling his shirt aside to show us his pectoral. Despicable. Granted, we directed some nasty things towards him throughout the game as well. I lost my voice for the entire next week, but boozed away my despair. 1/13/2009 - Sadly, a day inside AFH I will always remember.

I was traveling to some friends' in Missouri while listening to the game on the radio. Hmmm.....just like this past weekend's game. Perhaps I should not travel to hang with these friends when KU is playing. Maybe its bad luck?

And this couple are great friends of ours. The only problem is that he is a MU fan and she is a KSU fan. Both times I took a lot of crap. Ugghh.

Yeah, that's the image I'LL always remember is Cartier walking into the tunnel taunting the student section and acting like a punk. I have never sat in the section I did that day since.

I remember watching it on TV and being amazed we lost to that mediocre team. Did it sound like a pin could drop in AFH after the final buzzer sounded? I recall the cameras being in the hallway to the locker rooms. The K-State players and coaches were going berserk celebrating. Mario Chambers was then interviewed by the TV cameras. He said he and the other freshmen had no part in the AFH K-State winning streak, so the streak didn't really mean that much to him.
