Kansas' Rush says he'll return for sophomore season Associated Press

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Kansas fans may find at least one positive in the 77-73 upset loss to Bradley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Brandon Rush, the Big 12 freshman of the year, said after Friday night's game that he'll return for his sophomore season. The Jayhawks' leading scorer this year, Rush was thought to be leaning toward coming out early for the NBA draft.

"Yes, I'm back next year. I can't go out like this," he told reporters just minutes after the Jayhawks were ousted in the first round for the second straight year.

"I was still undecided at the time of the game. Now I'm sure I'm coming back next year."

Rush scored only nine points off 4-of-14 shooting against Bradley.

He said he made his decision after looking at his teammates in the losing locker room.

"Just going out in the first round, not giving the seniors what they were trying to get, immediately after the game, I said it's best for the whole team to come back next year."

Kansas coach Bill Self was not aware of Rush's statement until he was told about it by reporters.

"I will not go on record with you guys and comment on something he and I have not talked about," Self said. "I'll let the dust settle a bit so emotion doesn't make the decision. He had a great freshman year, not played as well lately. We all get spoiled. He had a great year."

Sophomore C.J. Giles said he's confident he'll have Rush at his side for 2006-07.

"Yes, I know he'll be back. We'll all be back," Giles said. "We have to use this as motivation in the offseason, in the weight room. We have to remember this feeling every day."

Get off the golf course with M.J. and ChiHawk. Updated March 18th. Do you think you are the first and only person in the past 3 days to see this? I am messing with you.

No need to apologize. Neither have I. Most important news in the past 3 days and you wanted to share it.

Oh, thank goodness. I was so fearful that he would transfer straight to the NBA All-Star squad, first team.
With his ability to control the game, not to mention his
performance over the last several games, NBA scouts must
just be salivating to sign him. Quite obviously, he's
Kareem, Magic, and Kobe all rolled into one.

Jayhawk fan since the days of Jo Jo White.

69 - Be careful. 90% of the people on the board will give you a hard time. The kid is not NBA ready. He was a lottery pick 3 years ago. Just ask the "experts". How has he gotten worse the past 3 years?

The NBA "projects" (verb) when evaluating talent. As in, "Kaun is more game-ready right now, but Giles 'projects' as the better NBA player."

Sure, Rush has ALOT of rust to his game, namely, a left hand, a molasses jumpshot, and a tentative dribble drive. He will be in a better position to make an impact on the league after another season, but make no mistake, he's not foolish. He knows that although he might get better, his stock may plummet (see: Adams, Hassan and Diaz, Guillermo). The more known a quantity a player is, the less today's NBA is interested in them. All in all, though, I am pleased that he made the right choice, and I hope it pays off for all parties in more ways than one!

Rush has a sweet shot and can shoot on the move really well. Now he need to learn how to use his left hand and dribble more like Paul Pierce than Nick Bradford.

01 - Just ask everyone who knows everything. His left hand is fine. Ha Ha Ha. About as good as my left hand. But that's ok. In KU land he has the best left hand in the country.

Yes! This should be required reading for anyone who wants to discuss a players chances of entering the draft.

If they improve the way they did this year and learn their roles, I think this can be the best team in the country. Those are some big if's. Only one team wins the National Championship. Using words from earlier today, If they don't win a National Championship are they underachievers or failures? I think not.
