Seventeen states now offer varsity bowling for both males and females. Iowa and Washington offer varsity for girls and club bowling for boys. 25 states offer bowling as a club sport. It is the fastest growing high school sport in the nation over the last five years!

Watched part of a big-time high school girls bowling tournament last night on ESPN2. These girls were GOOD.

I know this is a bumped post from "thee of many user names"....but I know that more and more High Schools around Northeast Kansas are including Bowling as a Varsity Sport...

Any thoughts on why the sudden change? Back in the early 90's when I was in school, bowling was unheard of here in NE Kansas for a High School sport...

Though I do remember visiting the old Jaybowl right before the first remodel and I scored me a couple bowling pins...

Bowling was added as a varsity sport by KSHSAA four years ago. I believe the state youth bowling organization had been lobbying for a number of years and when they were able to get enough local centers to agree to "sponsor" the teams with free line charges for meets, tournaments and practices the state finally bought in.

I'm of to Wichita to watch the local schools compete this weekend in the state finals.

When is KSHAA going to get with the program? Sports like darts and horshoes have been neglected for too long. People say that darts and horshoes aren't real sports...but you show me a guy that can hit a bullseye and I'll show you one HELL of an athlete. No, this discrimination has to stop. Title IX was for the gals...this one's for ANYONE who uses hand-eye coordination, in any way, shape or form...we're all athletes.

Give me a break.
