White Sox at Royals 8/20, 8/21, 8/22 - 08/19/13 10:52 AM

This is basically it I think for any chance of a Wild Card spot....they need to sweep the Sox. The pitching matchups look great in every game.

They have several series' against losing teams coming up. And this is one of them. Need to go on another really good run to even sniff that wild card spot.

A sweep is needed. In fact, sweeping the entire week would be ideal. They play two lesser teams in the WSox and Nats.

Santana, Guthrie, and Shields (in that order) will be on the mound against the Sox. And no Chris Sale. They have to sweep that. Against Washington, they have Davis, Chen, and Santana pitching. Hopefully Chen's game against Detroit was just an anomaly. They miss Strasburg, but still get Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmerman, and Dan Haren (who has been hot of late).

KC: Win 5 or 6 games (of 6) this week, and you certainly aren't out of the WC race. But anything less than that, and you're just treading water and running out of time. Two more in Detroit would have been huge.

Baltimore has a brutal schedule remaining (7 v. TB, 9 v. BOS, 3 v. OAK, 3 v. CLE, 7 v. NYY). That's 29 of their remaining 39. All against teams in the hunt for the playoffs. The Rays only play Boston 3 more times, though they do have a reasonably tough schedule otherwise. Oakland has a tough couple of weeks coming up, but finishes the season with an absolute cakewalk (20 of 23 against terrible teams/teams completely out of the race) from September 5th to the end of the season. Texas doesn't have it very tough either. And that's the problem. You can't pass teams if they aren't losing. And Texas and Oakland probably aren't going to do a lot of losing during September.

It's almost a certainty at this point that Texas, Detroit, Boston, Tampa, and Oakland are going to be the five playoff teams, barring a collapse of epic proportions or KC, New York, Baltimore, or Cleveland winning 30 of 40.

Side note: I can't wait to see what Yordano Ventura can do in September. He has been tearing it up in AAA since his first 6 or 7 starts, when he was wildly inconsistent. He has a great fastball and a changeup and curveball that are works-in-progress, but coming along nicely from what I've heard. Can't wait to see him.

Welp not a good start!

Terrible, terrible game. No offense. Ervin was solid. The bullpen was great. But you have to score a run to win the game. To his credit, Danks was pretty good tonight.

They need to win the next 5 this week. You absolutely can't drop series to the WSox and Nats.

I'm shocked, just shocked, that a lineup that includes a 4-man order of Bonifacio-Escobar-Getz-Carroll couldn't get any runs last night.

Lol...I hear that, why Yost wont bring up some solid bats from Omaha and at least give them a shot is beyond me. I afraid the Royals are going to fade away. Hope they can at least stay above .500.

The injuries to Cain and Moose are killing the team...the depth on the roster is pretty pathetic batting-wise.

Does seem like Moose is coming back tonight, so hopefully that'll help somewhat.

Yost was asked after the game about Getz getting picked off. He answered "I wouldn't want any other player in the game during that situation then Getz." This is the kind of stuff that pisses me off about Yost and why I ultimately think his job should be in question.

I'm putting the Royals chances at making the playoffs now at about 5%.

I agree. I think the playoffs are nearly completely impossible. But I'll still watch and follow like I have all year. Hasn't it been fun to just watch meaningful baseball come August, maybe even September. The last time that happened, was a decade ago. I was just a teenager at the time, but now I understand what it is like to just play meaningful games after May and June.

I don't know if the Royals gave won a game after a day off this season. I think at one point, they were 0-9 after a day off. Always seem to play flat.

Well it was for a while, wasn't it?

Like I said last week going into the Detroit series...I had a bad feeling a regression was coming, and they are 2-5 since...I hate when I'm right.

I hope they can atleast finish .500, and win me $50 smile

I know he probably hasn't bunted much, but Hosmer needed to try at least once to get a bunt down with runners on first and second and nobody out in the 11th.

Re: White Sox at Royals 8/20, 8/21, 8/22 - 08/22/13 11:24 PM

In the 11th, Royals had guys on 1st and 2nd with nobody out.

In the 12th, Royals had a guy on 2nd with nobody out.

ZERO runs scored.

In the 1st and 9th, Royals had leadoff singles. In the former, Hosmer and Perez whiffed, then Gordo got picked off first. In the latter, Hosmer led off with a single, but then Perez whiffed again and Butler...you guessed it...grounded into a DP. ZERO runs scored.

So, what does everybody think the Chiefs record will be this year?

Chiefs? 8-8.

Yeah...what if the Chiefs finish 8-8 and the Royals finish 81-81....wouldnt that be awesome..well not in most cities, but in KC it would mean improvement...

Re: White Sox at Royals 8/20, 8/21, 8/22 - 08/23/13 09:42 AM

Chiefs are a good example of why the NFL is so popular. They went 2-14 last year, but I think there's real reasons to think they can win 7 games this year. And if they stay healthy and get a couple lucky bounces, 9 or 10 wins doesn't seem too big a stretch.

Royals are tough to call right now. They SHOULD finish with 85+ wins, but if the White Sox series is an indicator, even .500 seems optimistic.

The Royals suck...That is all...hopefully Yost will be canned if they finish badly.

Can't recall a team rolling over and dying quite like this. Miguel Cabrera pretty much landed a knockout punch.
