Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/12/13 07:14 PM

Monday, August 12th: Wade Davis v. Tom Koehler

Lineup:
1) LF Lough
2) 1B Hosmer
3) DH Butler
4) C Perez
5) 3B Moose
6) RF Maxwell
7) 2B Getz
8) SS Escobar
9) CF Dyson

Tuesday, August 13th: Bruce Chen v. Jose Fernandez

Wednesday, August 14th: Ervin Santana v. Jacob Turner

Royals need 2 out of 3 here. I can't complain if they aren't able to win against Fernandez tomorrow night. But this is the kind of team you need to win series against. A sweep is ideal.

Side note: Gordon is gone tonight for the birth of his child. Will be back tomorrow. Congrats to his family.

Side note #2: The Royals picked up INF Jamey Carroll yesterday, if you didn't notice. Was with the Twins. Not a very good player. But really no worse than Getz, who was activated off of the DL for tonight's game.

I'm going tomorrow. Real exciting baseball being played right now.

Jesus, the fielding by the Royals outfielders isn't helping Davis here in the 6th inning.

Fortunate to get out of that inning. Good that we tacked on a few more.

Wow. Billy really got into that one.

Royals win...with a loss by the Tribe (lol...where is 14 at) the Royals slide into 2nd place. Detroit goes down also. Good deal.

15-16k tonight. Not bad attendance, if the game was in Miami...

Pretty shittey crowd indeed. But you don't fix two decades of losing with one good run. Gonna take a little more time than that to get consistent big crowds.

Well, since you mention it, a downtown stadium and proper public transit would help out attendance. Where do you think the fans live?

Of course, it's going to cost the taxpayers in the area a fortune and fish will be moving across state lines before that happens.

If you've never seen Jose Fernandez pitch, make sure you tune it tonight. This kid has some nasty stuff.

Orioles lose. KC not too far back with a couple games in hand.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/13/13 03:01 PM

Tonights lineup:

1 - Getz 2B
2 - Hosmer 1B
3 - Butler DH
4 - Gordon LF
5 - Lough RF
6 - Escobar SS
7 - Kottaras C
8 - Carroll 3B
9 - Dyson CF

Good lord that looks bad.

The handling of Getz is comical at this point.

Yikes.....if I were a betting man, I'd be jumping all over the under 6.5 for this game.

This has 2-1, 3-2, written all over it.

Oh wait....I am a betting man <runs to the casino>

Looks like Vegas boy is winning some loot. Pretty predictable call. 6.5 was pretty high for those pitchers going against each other. Now come on Royals win 1-0...

How about 1-0? Being there, it was fun to see JoFer and a great pitchers' duel. But that offense was just an abortion tonight. With Turner on the mound, it should be easier to get 2 or 3 runs. That's really all that they will need tomorrow with Ervin pitching to a terrible lineup (which, by the way, among the 9 of them, has 28 home runs). The Tigers lost tonight as well and the Royals are still 4 back in the WC race, so no harm done. Take the series tomorrow and look to win a few in Detroit.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 08:28 AM

That Fernandez is a special pitcher. Can get a bit wild at times but he then shows outstanding command on the next pitch. I think I saw last night he had 40-some pitches over 95. Miami really needs to save that kid's arm because they are going nowhere in the next couple of years. He had a low pitch count last night, but he was pulled after 7 with 94 pitches.
There was only 1 time where KC had a runner in scoring postition. Should be a good lineup today with Lough leading off, then Hosmer, Butler, Gordon, Perez, maybe Moose and then who knows with the last 3 with Escobar, Getz and Dyson.

Little $100 score...not too shabby.

Jumped on the under when it was at +110...had gone all the way to -120 by gametime...which for O/U's is pretty rare to see that kind of jump.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 10:41 AM

Moustakas in a walking boot today...that doesn't sound good.

Can't afford these injuries when the offense is average to start with.

Not having him or Cain for the Tigers series is not exactly ideal.

We need their defense too.

Agreed.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this upcoming Detroit series.

I'm "hoping" for 2 out of 5.

Realistically, I can see this series getting bad.

Hopefully tonight Santanas pitching can cover the Getz,Kottaras,
Carroll hole.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 12:23 PM

Royals just acquired another infielder (likely for cash): Emilio Bonifacio from the Jays (and all of his .218 average). Certainly won't do much for KC, but maybe a better option than Elliot Johnson has been thus far. Or Getz.

I wouldn't worry much about Moose until we actually hear bad news. So far, it has been reported that das boot is just precautionary as a means of relieving pressure on his calf. Speculation seems to be that he will play against Detroit at some point, 100% healthy or not. He's just so much better than Johnson or Carroll right now, it's hard to justify not letting him tough it out.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 12:26 PM

Interesting pickup.

I think it means either the end for one of Elliot Johnson, Chris Getz, or Jamey Carroll. That or either the injury to Cain or Moose is more serious than we're being led to believe.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 12:33 PM

I can't stand Getz but I did find it humorous that he had three hits two nights ago. Johnson is like 3 for his last 45 or something like that.
Posted by: christgs80

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 12:37 PM

I mean, it has to be Johnson who is gone, right?

They can't simply justify keeping all of these utility infielders.

Yost's lineups have puzzled me. Especially in the top 3 spots.

Miami's pitcher is struggling right now. Evidence? Getz led off the 2nd on 4 straight balls. Wow.

(Of course, Getz is Getz. The pitcher caught Getz in an attempted steal just moments later.)

That 5 hole dribbler through Johnson should seal his fate.

Losing 2 of 3 to the Marlins....quite sad. Not a good sign heading to Detroit. Could be the beginning of the end. Too many injuries.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 04:51 PM

The Royals were so good for that stretch of 20 games that a natural regression was bound to happen. This team that is not that good.

The offense is average when completely healthy, but right now, the lineup being put out there just isn't going to get the job done.

I hope I'm wrong, but I do think the Royals have made their run.

I think they just finish right around .500

Go ahead and bash away smile

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 04:56 PM

Well if there was anything to bash you for I would, but unfortunately I think you are spot on. I was hoping for them to finish 8-10 games above .500, that could still happen. But making the playoffs, nah just a pipedream this yr. Finish good....plan for playoffs in 2014. Hope you made some money yesterday ya damm degenerate fu--ck.

The Detroit series is still huge. If they lose it, then stick a fork in them.

0-5? Sure. 2-3? Nah.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 05:18 PM

The Detroit series looks to be one that will decide their season. Not technically. But for all intents and purposes, they are done if they go into Motown and lose 4 or 5. If they win 3 or 4, I'll go ahead and hold on to my excitement. They played the 4 game Boston series and were great. I'm not ready to give up on them quite yet.

However, today was an abortion. Jacob Turner was god awful today. Couldn't find the strike zone. He threw 89 pitches and ONLY 38 STRIKES. He walked 6 in 5.0 IP. If this team had a little more plate discipline, that should have been 8 or 9. If they had a little more in their bats today, the guy should have been gone early. He was just terrible. Yet he got out of it with only 1 ER. A lineup with Escobar, Getz, Johnson, and Dyson is untenable. The same can be said for one with Escobar, Getz, Carroll, and Dyson.

With Tejada done for the season, the Royals better hope that Bonifacio or Ciriaco (who is doing pretty well in AAA) can help in the infield. Johnson isn't doing it. Nor is Getz. Nor is Carroll. Moose needs to come back as strong as he was before his little bump and/or bruise.

This team still has a great chance to make a run at the WC, but if they don't get it down in Motown, it's more or less over.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 05:26 PM

I do agree that the Detroit series is pretty much it.

But that's where my bad feeling starts to creep in haha.

I'll be rooting like hell though for the boys. No matter what, they've made baseball exciting late into the year...which like it or not, is a big accomplishment for us Royals fans.

Good lord people, this is the first series Royals have lost in god knows how long, and all of a sudden we are going back down to the bottom. At least other teams in wild card are losing a bit too. We are pretty much exactly where we were when we were winning.
Posted by: rockchalker5

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/14/13 10:04 PM

We are still in this thing as long as we win a couple in Detroit.

I still think this team has something in it. But the big boys need to carry us.

I'd guess 91 wins would give an AL team a real good chance of a playoff spot.

Tampa and Oakland, the 2 wildcards as of today, both need to go 24-20 to get to 91.

The Royals now need to go 29-15 to get to 91 wins. With 11 games against the Tigers, that's gonna be very difficult. Losing 2 to Miami hurts. Royals MUST win 4 in Detroit, barring a meltdown by 3 or 4 other AL teams down the stretch.

The current rate at which this team is winning is not something that can be maintained. I think fans are nervous that a big losing streak is coming. I don't buy into that. But they aren't going to win 8 of 10 games the rest of the way.

Re: Miami Marlins @ KC Royals (Aug. 12-14) - 08/15/13 10:01 PM

They need to send Getz packing as well. Call up Ciriaco and let him try to earn a roster spot. Getz is awful. Johnson was awful. Carroll is a career .270 hitter with no power who is past his prime, whatever that was. I don't really have any qualms with the Bonifacio pick up. He's a pretty speedy guy who can plug holes in the infield. He almost certainly won't be as bad as Getz and Johnson.
