Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11

Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 09:15 AM

Got off to a great start with a 5-1 Royals win last night. Bruce Chen pitched a gem...again. What a stud he has been for the rotation since he was plugged in there. And how about Justin Maxwell? The acquistion at the trade deadline that EVERYONE loved hit another homer last night.

Remaining pitching matchups:

8/9 - Peavy vs. Santana
8/10 - Doubront vs. J-Guts
8/11 - Lackey vs Big Game James

Should be an exciting weekend at the K. Think they can draw 120,000+ fans in this 4 game series?

I dont know. Pretty sad after all their recent success they have been no more than 22 K at the K...lol...for the first 4 games of the homestand. Way to show up KC fans. Get your asses in the stands this weekend. I am going Sunday.

22K fans on a Thursday night doesn't seem that bad to me.

Should be packed tonigh and a near sellout Saturday.

22,000 on a Thursday night doesn't seem bad to you because you're conditioned to a fanbase with two decades' worth of (well-earned) apathy. There are few things in sports more exciting than the home town team in a playoff chase. Place should be 30+ a night right now.

Yep, I agree.

Especially with the Red Sox in town....22k is not a good turnout. Better be packed all weekend.

I can honestly say that I don't remember attending a sold out game at the K....in my life. Closest thing I've seen is when the Cards come to town. So your probably right.

Kauffman just not that fun of an atmosphere. Can't even swim in the damn fountains.

I like Kauffman as a ballpark. Only downside, even though it brings some upside with pregame grilling, is the location.

The atmosphere's only ever as good as the crowd, right? Other than Allen (and only then a couple times) the best sports atmosphere I've ever been in was a baseball team playing in a football stadium where about 12% of the seats faced home plate.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 12:17 PM

When they move Kauffman downtown, I'll attend more games. I'm still furious they spent $250m to renovate when a new stadium could have been built downtown for $350-375m. Also, KC has some of the best sport design firms in the world, so I'm sure it would have been amazing....lost opportunity.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 03:09 PM

If you think they could get a new baseball stadium downtown for 300 million thats worth a crap..your nutz....think 500 million minimum. I have no probs with the renovated K or even renovated Camarohead. The surrounding area sucks but you are in a huge secured parking lot that is great for tailgating.

Go to the Atl and fight the homeless roaming through your tailgate area and then tell me how great a downtown ball park is...not so great in some cities...

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 03:22 PM

That wouldn't be a problem here. Downtown stadium makes a ton of sense in KANSAS CITY. Don't care about "da ATL" or anywhere else. It would work HERE.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 03:49 PM

There not going to do it no matter what you think. The new K and Camarohead is more than fine enough for midwestern clod hoppers. My friend has been to several games at Target Field and even though he liked the stadium he hated the experience of that downtown in a similar city like KC offered...As in no parking....crazy expensive venue...he stated he liked Turner Field much better in the crappy hood surrounding in Atlanta. The K is fine for many more years.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 04:01 PM

Again, don't care about other cities. It makes a lot of sense HERE.

Downton handles 10's of 1000's of tourists every single week.

If and when the Royals sell, the stadium staying in Raytown is not a sure bet at all past 20 years from now.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 04:19 PM

Busch III was built for $365m and seats over 45k. The Royals could have easily built a 38k seat stadium for $325-$350m. I just love downtown ballparks, ie Coors field and Target field, both of which I have been to many times.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 04:44 PM

I didnt say it would'nt be nicer or a better location downtown. But they decided on refiting the old stadiums instead of building something downtown. Its a non issue in other words. Yes downtown KC would be a better backdrop than the side of a hill and I-70..

IMO the next royals stadium will be out by the race track. BUT yes have been looking forward to the game all day! -let's go Royals

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 07:04 PM

I agree, it is what it is. But for me, baseball stadiums belong downtown, not only for the game day experience but also the spinoff development effect. Go Royals!

On a side note.....Justin Smackwell just hit another HR. Ball was absolutely smoked. That's 3 HRs in 13 ABs as a Royal.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/09/13 09:49 PM

HOW ABOUT THAT RALLY?

Santana had an awful outing tonight, but the offense came through. Hosmer with the big, go-ahead 2 RBI hit. 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th. Wow. This team is playing great baseball right now.

Close out this game and, with Shields on the mound Sunday against Lackey, you have to think the Royals have a great chance to take 3 of 4 from possibly the best team in the American League.

Maybe Justin Maxwell was just mired in severe depression after being stuck in Houston. He has been valuable so far for the Royals.

As was said on the broadcast, we've all wondered what this team would be if the offense would start clicking. We're seeing it.

Royals win!

60-53.

Looks like they'll still be 4.5 out in the wild card race, as Texas looks primed to win (and probably do so all weekend v. Houston). Cleveland lost though.

Still think the playoffs are a longshot, but this is a lot of fun anyway. Hard to believe this group went 4-19 this season. Well, maybe not. Huge addition by subtraction in jettisoning Francouer and Getz.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/10/13 12:38 AM

I don't want to torture myself or others, but what is the state of baseball in KC if they go 10-13 instead of 4-19?

Playoffs are a big time long shot, but I have become more optimistic than I was two weeks ago, when I was ridiculing those hoping for Dayton Moore to buy because of a small playoff chance.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/10/13 12:43 AM

Francoeur was downright terrible. Maxwell is a better option, even when he comes down from this first week high. Tejada is somehow playing pretty well and certainly is an upgrade from Getz. I'd like to see this lineup

LF Gordon
1B Hosmer
DH Butler
3B Moustakas
C Perez
RF Maxwell
CF Cain
2B Tejada
SS Escobar

provided that Moose keeps hitting.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/10/13 01:03 AM

Also--I'd be curious to know ESPN and BBP's respective methodologies for determining playoff odds. ESPN has the Royals at a 20.4% chance of making the playoffs (7th in the AL, now ahead of the Indians). BBP, typically much more conservative in these projections, has the Royals at 5.2% (far behind the Indians, who are at about 30%, though they haven't updated for tonight's games yet).

Hell of a win. 3/4 from the Sox is important.

3 or 4 wins in Detroit would be huge. I'm not holding my breath though.

Probably because the short sighted city of Kansas City built and refurbished the K in the middle of a cow pasture with not hotels anybody would want to stay in for twenty miles. Of course, the exception would have been the undated hotels and new build hotels downtown had they moved that way but that ship sailed long ago.

Anyway another fantastic series by the Boys In Blue. This is getting to be fun!

Royals have been red hot the last few weeks. Any chance this has anything to do with Brett helping our players hit better? 4.5 games out of the wild card and a winning record for once. I actually feel hope for the Royals for the first time since 2003.

What are you talking about....there is a sweet hotel right across I-70 from the K. And Nolan Rd has excellent accomodations like Super 8...Motel 6...Comfort Inn. You sure are a picky cuss. I know alot of people wanted a new stadium somewhere else. But what was going to happen. Build a new baseball stadium downtown but leave Camarohead there and tear down the K. I dont think so.

Re: Red Sox @ Royals 8/8, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11 - 08/12/13 10:22 PM

The point I am trying to get across to CnB is that sure its in a crappy location. But its in a huge secured parking lot, basically its own enviroment. You are never subjected to the locals of Independence or Raytown except for the ones that go to the game. The tailgating atmosphere cannot be beat.
