Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 06:43 PM

Trade deadline is over. 3 games above .500.

You're either with us or with the terrorists. Let's go Royals!

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 06:52 PM

Hey! The Royals are 4 games above .500! That's much better.

Anyway, they should be able to get 2 out of 3. Guthrie on the mound tonight. Shields tomorrow. Wednesday will be tough though. Wade Davis is starting, so expect at least a couple of runs. Plus Samuel Deduno is going for Minnesota, who has been pretty damn good lately.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 07:35 PM

And there is a 100% chance that either the Tribe or Tigers will lose tonight.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 08:25 PM

Well, I feel confident about tonight's game. 6 runs in the 2nd inning for the Royals and the Twins lead-off double in the 4th comes to nothing.

The Twins are brutal. Yay!

The only thing I am slightly worried about is Gordon not producing like he should. Dont really need it tonite however.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 08:41 PM

Gordon started the year so hot. And not just for a week or two. It was a long hot streak. And since, he hasn't been very good. But he has looked pretty good the last couple of games. Hope he gets his average back up around .290 or better and hits some more homers by year's end.

Hosmer with a blast to straight away center. Damn this team is fun to watch right now.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/05/13 09:22 PM

Hosmer and moose are fantastic tonight. THAT is what a pair of star corner infielders looks like. Hopefully this is the last year of struggle.
Posted by: kylecof11

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/06/13 11:04 AM

The offense is so much better with Moose and Hosmer hitting well.
Alcides seems to realize he can hit well by going to the opposite field and being crafty with bunts. He cannot hit the ball in the air, that's not his game.
Kottaras is the most patient, relaxed hitter KC has had in a long time.
The pitching staff is absolutely amazing.

It's kind of nice to return the favor to the Twinkies when they beat KC 17-0 or something like that 3-4 years ago.

Gotta feel pretty good about tonights game.

Shields going up against a 27-year old rookie making his MLB debut.

Pretty impressive. Fitting that a Budweiser sign is right over her head. Those fountains do not look like fun because they have some really sharp objects in there, from what I think I've seen.

No reason for the Royals to drop one tonight with their Ace on the mound against a 27 year old rookie

Damn, Shields looks like shit tonight.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/06/13 08:56 PM

Yeah. He pretty much didnt have it from the get go.

The Royals to eschew standard operating procedure for baseball and go with the following approach when Shields is pitching.

1) Use Chris Getz as the starting pitcher. For the sheer bizarre nature of this move and the high probability he will injure himself some how, this is a genius move. Here's why: All we are trying to do here people is buy some time to get Shields in the zone. On days when Getz is hurt, activate Giavotella. Gio is so short that no one will be able to deal with his lack of stature on the mound and it will guarantee he keeps his pitches down in the zone. Either of these two should be able to buy us and inning or two on shock value alone.

2) While the crew mentioned above is pitching, start Shields throwing in the bullpen with the bullpen catcher aggressively berating him and intentionally short hopping throws to him or returning the ball by throwing it way over his head. Add George Brett standing directly behind him telling and re-telling the Spring Training poop story in his ear and ole Jamie should be nice and fired up.

3) Line up all the inactive players in the bullpen and make Shields run the gauntlet to get to the mound. Once he arrives at the mound, a swift kick and sweaty hug from Moose and it should be "Go Time"!

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/06/13 11:43 PM

Terrible game. Yost should have pulled JS in the 4th. Pretty clear he did not have it tonight but it is really frustrating when your "Ace" does not bring it against a rookie and the offense crawls in a hole.

Yick....

That was a case of cockiness by both the team and the fans. No way will we lose to an unproven rookie with Big Game James on the bump. WRONG. No time to get cocky yet, there is still alot of work to do..

Don't get too hopeful. After watching the piles of crap the Indians have dropped the last couple of games my dreams of a division title are 100% gone. If they could somehow sneak into one of the Wild Card spots it would be an absolute surprise. It all starts with Salazar tonight to get them out of this funk

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/07/13 05:34 PM

Doesn't help that Kluber is now on the DL. He has been one of the best SP in all of baseball the last month. He and Kazmir have both been overachieving massively.

On another note: predictions for Duffy's return tonight?
Posted by: JFish26

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/07/13 05:36 PM

5.1, 4 runs, 5 hits, 6 strikeouts, 4 walks, 96 pitches.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/07/13 05:38 PM

We're close.

I'm thinking 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 ER, 5 K

Gotta think they'll keep him to 90-95 pitches.

Damm I thought you would tell me what for and then some after the stinkbomb the Royals also laid last nite. Bottom line unfortunately is Detroit is hands down the best team talent wise in the division and rightly deserves another World Series shot, its a given it wont be against the Giants if they do, because those guys suck this year.

Duffy bringing the heat, he's hit 99 already. gave up a leadoff triple and dozier scored on a wild pitch. just said that 14 out of his first 17 pitches have been over 95

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/07/13 08:29 PM

3 2/3 innings with six hits and two walks. Seven stick outs are awesome. A lot of base runners so far.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/07/13 09:57 PM

Just like he has been in AAA, Duffy was f*cking electric, both in his pitching and demeanor (boy did he look like he was jacked to be out there), but was totally erratic at times.

If this Danny Duffy sharpens his command and calms down a little on the mound, he might be better than he ever was before his elbow popped. He was only in for 3.2 innings tonight, but he struck out 7. That's pretty impressive.

But if you look ahead, if they stay in this position, then you've got other potential series that will be the Royals biggest series in a decade or more.

Lots of games left v Tigers and Indians.
Make it to September boys.

Even after that 5 games series with the Tigers. There is two 3 games series home and away and Sept. ..No pipe dreams here, Tigers are the better team, but hey anything can happen. Except for the Braves blowing their lead...jeebus whats gotten into the Bravos...12 game winning streak and 15 game lead.....whoa.

If you don't go 4-3 or better against Boston and Miami, you're in trouble.

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/08/13 11:05 AM

Yep, I'd agree with that.

Split 4 with Boston, take 2 out of 3 against Miami, and see what happens with 5 against Detroit

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/08/13 01:20 PM

The only reason KC should lose to Miami is if Fernandez pitches, which I think he will since he pitched this afternoon. The pitching matchups for the Boston series are really good. Chen vs Lester, Santana vs Peavy, Guthrie vs Doubront and Shields vs Lackey.
Posted by: christgs80

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/08/13 01:22 PM

I don't about really good matchups against Boston, but winning tonight would go a long way to possibly getting 3 out of 4.

And yes, Fernandez pitches the middle game of the series when we play Miami. He's damn good....that's a game where the pitching better be good on our side as well.
Posted by: JFish26

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/08/13 01:56 PM

I'd be happy going 7-5 over these 12 games, however arranged. Ecstatic with 8-4.
Posted by: KUSPORTSFAN93

Re: Twinks @ Royals 8/5 8/6 8/7 - 08/08/13 03:26 PM

Ideally, in those 12, you manage 7-9 wins. It would be fantastic if the Royals split with Boston, sweep Miami, and take 3 of 5 from Detroit. That's 8 wins. I think they will get 7.

I'm going to the Tuesday game v. Miami to see the Royals and to see Fernandez pitch. That guy is something special.

Since the start of the post-All Star game win streak, KC's pitching/defense is unbelievable. Excluding Shields' dud 7-run outing a couple nights ago, the Royals are giving up under 2 runs a game comfortably.

Keep thinking the Royals will be the Royals and go on a losing streak, but instead they're really looking like a playoff team. Still wouldn't bet $10 the Royals get a wildcard berth, but if they take 3 of 4 from Boston, 88-92 wins doesn't sound so crazy.

Rany put out a pretty crazy stat last night on twitter.

As of 9 PM last night, Bruce Chen has the lowest ERA (1.90) of any lefty pitcher with at least 5 starts. Clayton Kershaw is 2nd.
